Clearwater Beach Marriott Suites on Sand Key

Let me start by saying that I hardly ever vacation. When I travel, there’s usually an event attached. My recent trip to Clearwater was no exception, and I wouldn’t have gone had it not been for the family party I attended that weekend. The Clearwater Beach Marriott was convenient to the party location, and it helped me unwind during my stay.
First things first, I highly recommend staying higher up in the tower. Views are everything when you’re surrounded by endless water. The suites give you two large windows to look out of while contemplating your life. In the living room area, the view looks across the street to the mighty Gulf of Mexico, as well as some absolutely gorgeous resorts and condo complexes. The hotel has a shuttle if you want to zip over to the beach, but the weather is usually nice enough that you can walk and enjoy the scenery. The path to the beach takes you through a lovely park, and you may even get to see some wildlife among the palms and shells washed ashore. The bedroom had a view of the harbor, which was just as beautiful to watch the sunrise. Our room had a nice little balcony that I would have glued myself to had it not been for the ridiculous winds.
The room itself was comfortable enough for us. I love it when I can sink into the bed and not feel like I’m sleeping on a slab of stone. The suite had a pull out couch, two TVs, a mini fridge, and a microwave. Can you believe how often hotels don’t have mini fridges? Put it this way, it was a huge relief to have somewhere to put leftover food from my carry-​on bag that would have melted otherwise. Finally, this is the first hotel I’ve stayed at in years where I’ve wanted to take home every single toiletry available. At the very least, take home the body wash, it leaves your skin soft and smelling like you just stepped out of a spa.
The hotel had a wonderful breakfast buffet and the food at the pool bar was delicious too, serving me well during my stay. My tip is to get the blintzes at the buffet if they’re being served-​they are absolutely heavenly and I hardly ever see them as a breakfast option when I’m at hotel buffets. For lunch, I chose the grouper sandwich, and even though it fell apart as I ate, it still satisfied me for the rest of the day. If you want to continue the relaxation process, have a drink and lounge around by the pool. Even if you don’t swim, there’s something to be said about sitting next to a waterfall and having access to a hot tub.
Finally, the one noteworthy thing about this hotel is the house parrot named Lisa. She’ll usually be in her perch to greet you in the lobby, but she is definitely a squawker. She was so loud at times that I really wasn’t too upset to see her go to bed at night.
The Clearwater Beach Marriott was a nice getaway for a weekend, and I enjoyed my stay here. In fact, I had such a nice time that I’m strongly contemplating taking a vacation for the sake of vacationing. Who knew? It really is nice to get away, after all.

Category 8? Not so much. Rooms are out dated! Staff helps. However, still dealing with a supposedly comp night due to an overrated hotel. Was told by staff night sty was comped. Yet next day got a charge showed up in email. Overlook the inlet. A good distance to go to the beach. Shuttle is on a schedule. Good luck. Recommend the Sheraton across the street! Pool leads to beach. Been a Marriott platinum member for years. Drink the coolaid in most cases. This is not up to Marriott standard!

I’ve grown a fond appreciation for this hotel. As a Platinum member, I prefer full service (concierge lounge, etc) Marriott’s most of the time. This is a freshened up building with outdoor hallways to the guest rooms and no executive lounge. The balcony views are all of the intracoastal– the guest room door view across the open walkway is of Gulf Blvd, condos, with the Gulf of Mexico in the backdrop.
The guest rooms are all suites with a decent living area– TX, mini fridge, wet bar, sleeper sofa and a bedroom. Bathrooms are small and outdated, despite the attempt to modernize– granite counters don’t make up for the lack of space and 70“s Holiday Inn layout. They are well kept, clean, and beds are great.
The pool is nice, has a tiki bar overlooking it and the intracoastal. Decent gym in its own little «hut». Service is really good– I have stayed 6+ times and they are always so friendly and attentive. Location is good– but not if you want to walk to the action of Clearwater Beach– Sand Key is low key and condo tower central. Overall, there is a lot to like and worth considering if you’re staying in the area.

Beautiful hotel, EXCELLENT staff, would come back here and stay here in a heartbeat, and I’m pretty picky :)

We came over for the Suncoast Jazz Classic Festival at The Sheraton Sand Key which is across the street from The Marriott. We had a 3^rd floor room with a view of the bay overlooking the pool deck which looked pretty good BUT we also were looking at the air conditioning units on the rooftops of the strip center next door. It wasn’t really a huge deal breaker though. The Hotel is pretty old, it needs an upgrade. It is in pretty good condition. It looks like it is 20 plus yrs. old. The pool area and outside amenities were nice and had been upgraded but the exterior of the entire hotel needs to be painted. The rooms are outdated in my opinion. The furniture needs updating. TVs are flat screens but some channels were still analog and a lot of the digital channels
didn’t come in worth a dang and none were HD. Bathrooms were clean. The entire room was clean except for under the sink by the refrigerator in the living room area there was a trash can that was full off trash left from a previous tenant. Overall the hotel was decent. The staff went out of thier way to take care of us so I give them 5 plus stars. If we hadn’t gotten a good rate because of the festival the room would have been well over $ 200 a night which it would not be worth it since it isn’t a resort. It’s a hotel with a restaurant. Pretty nice but not $ 230 a night nice.

The staff here is as pleasant as it gets. Anytime they walk by they greet you, and I didn’t have a question that they couldn’t help to answer.
We stayed three nights in a King room facing the bay. My only qualm is that when we stepped out onto the big balcony the kitchen exhaust hood below blew smells of spent cooking oil up into our room. Made the place remind me faintly of a french fry. And the sliding bathroom door had no lock. A little inconvenient when your six year old gets curious.
Lisa the macaw held a roost in the lobby, and there was a balloon artist that blew up a puppy dog for the little one. She was ecstatic.
I will always support Marriotts!

Gorgeous views from the room, cute gym w cardio machines, cables and decent size free weights. I had wonderful workouts! And definitely deserved breakfast buffet afterwards: omelettes that we got served in probably less then 10min, hot foods like sausages, bacon, french toast etc, good selection of fresh fruit, berries, greek yogurt. Good service all over, from housekeeping and front desk, to waiters and all. At our breakfast buffet we had Debbie as our waitress, she’s always with a smile, accommodated our special requests and got us what we wanted (omelettes cooked w no butter/​oil, add avocado etc). Nice vacation spot!

Great view but the rooms are soooo SMALL! Was expecting two queen beds but it was more of 2 tiny full size beds. Also the bathrooms are just as small. Was expecting much more for the price we paid.

We spent two nights here and loved it. The view from our balcony was perfect. The pool and outdoor bar were great. Prices for drinks and bar appetizers were about what you’d expect for a hotel. The hotel is about a 10 – 15 minute walk to the beach at sand key park across the street. The restaurant downstairs, watercolour, was really good (I’d recommend the steaks and crab cakes). The spa, Antonio’s, was a bit overpriced, but my girlfriend loved her relaxation massage ($ 130 for 50 minutes). The staff gets an A+ too. I’ll definitely be back.

We love the location of this Marriott. it’s conveniently close to restaurants, shops and the beach is just across the street. The drive to Frenchy’s Rocakaway Grill and main drag of Clearwater Beach is less than 10 minutes. We were able to get to our fishing charter dock in no time as well. The king bed was super comfortable though the tub in the bathroom needs updating. When we got to our room there was a small puddle under the sink and the water pressure in the shower was dismal. I love that in the front of the room you get a view of the gulf beach and in the back you have the bay. In less than 5 minutes you can walk to Maggie Mae’s café for breakfast or grab Dunkin Donuts or Pizza. There’s also a chichi Spanish restaurant in the same plaza. The pool is lovely and the staff are very nice. They will lend you plates, forks and spoons. All you have to do is go to the front desk and ask. We had pizza (recommended by the front desk) delivered to the hotel and that worked out great. There is jet ski rental right at the hotel which is very convenient. Parking is free and plentiful. We would stay here again.

Stayed at this hotel on the six floor. I have to say it was one of the best hotel I have ever stayed at. From our front door we had a view of one the beach and on our balcony we had a beautiful view of the water. Needless to say, we didn’t have a bad view at all. The staff was outstanding… Kudos…

Two thumbs up to the breakfast crew in the restaurant. I think every employee had a cheery attitude and a peppy «Good Morning» for us. Thanks to Kaleigh at the front desk for making sure everything was perfect in our room. Great experience.

What a great stay we had at Marriott Suites Clearwater Beach On Sand Key. We stayed from a Sunday-​Thursday and it was just awesome. The staff were extremely professional, accommodating and courteous. They gave us great suggestions on where to go from beaches to restaurants, when we decided to try out other places. Kas at the front desk was AMAZING! She made our day by remembering that this was our 1^st vacation with our 2.5 yr old twins. She did something which we were completely not expecting and really touched our hearts. Daniel at the front desk was always helpful from getting us the correct room to telling us where everything was situated in the hotel. And Erns, helped us with our luggage and was extremely pleasant and always remembered us for the duration of our stay.
From reading reviews I was very nervous about the rooms. But I was pleasantly surprised that the rooms were very well kept and clean. They weren’t as run down as I expected. However, I do agree that some things need to be updated. Or maybe just spruced up a little. Maybe a fresh coat of paint would help. The sofa bed was my only complaint in the room. It was quite thin and the springs would hit my back every night. The king bed was very comfortable. We were in room 620 and we saw a shark, stingray and 4 dolphins from our room. It was just awesome. The cosmetic changes to the room didn’t matter after the view we had every morning and night.
The pool was very nice and our babes loved the 2 waterfalls. We had no problem getting chairs/​umbrellas/​towels. But we also went from Sun-​Thurs so maybe it wasn’t busy then. The buggy which took us to the beach was also a great amenity. The hotel provided all the towels and toys the kids needed. We also rented some chairs and an umbrella from a vendor for $ 25. We found out later that had we informed him that we were staying at the Marriot he would have taken $ 5 off.
We had room service which was great and we ate twice at WaterColour which was nice. Columbia restaurant was so good!!! We also had breakfast almost everyday at Maes. We ordered to go since seating was usually a little challenging. But the food was great. There were a ton of shops (eatery and retail) on the boardwalk behind the hotel.
Overall we had a wonderful time at this hotel and already planning our next trip.

Nice suites property. Rooms nice size definitely a family destination. Could use some updating but very clean. Staff was great. From front desk (Daniel)to bar staff (Stan) and room. Good ok but close to Columbia eat there

Great experience :) my only complaint would be this mornings front desk personal. Although she played a role of kindness it was clearly not sincere. I waited without any acknowledgement till she was almost done on the phone. While I watch her speak with the guest, you can clearly tell her frustration from her obvious body language. With the confused «what the heck is this person talking about» motion. I feel that Although she seemed polite on the phone, it would have been nice to know she was genuine. Other staff has been outstanding :)

Excellent customer service! It’s nice that all the staff from manager to maintenance will greet you with a smile and a hello. That is consistent throughout your day. The pool area is awesome, too. We will definitely visit here again!

Pool: clean and hot tub was great. In feb 2015 florida was actually pretty cold. The first day the heated pool was very much appreciated but the next two times I tried to get in it was freezing. I said something to the bartender and she gave my son & I free piña coladas along with 4 free vouchers for drinks. They said the next day it should be working. Unfortunately we were leaving that next day but their accommodations were appreciated.

Our room: clean, our housekeeper Himoza was nice. My son and I slept on the pullout bed while my parents slept in the other bed the first night. There was a draft & we were a little chilly (the pullout also isn’t comfy– most aren’t) so the rest of the trip we slept in the room with two full beds which were very comfortable. The showers are nice (which is a necessity to me!)
Also as a side note– the Jolly Trolley stops right in front of this hotel and and goes through the city. There is a great breakfast spot Maggie maes and some shops within walking distance
Marriotts are always a favorite for me.

I am normally a fan of the Marriott chain hotels, and as a reward member, my husband and I often stay in a Marriott hotel when we travel. This was our first time to Clearwater, and so I made sure to read a few reviews before booking. The fact that the hotel is across from the beach is not a problem for us, we didn’t mind the walk. It is centrally located to a few good beaches (both walking and driving) and it’s surrounded by good food. The balconies attached to the room are also lovely, providing a nice view, and a great way to bask in the sun.
However, our interior room experience was a little less pleasant. We spent two nights here, the first night we were placed right next to the elevator. Since we had been out all day and evening, we hadn’t realized how much you could hear it from our room. Unfortunately my husband and I are light sleepers, and we could hear it running all night, we had already unpacked, and weren’t in the mood to try and switch mid night. The next morning we talked to the front desk, and luckily they were very accommodating and moved us into another room mid way down the hall on a different floor, and gave us a credit to apply to our room for the inconvenience. The only downside, is that the elevator could still be heard from half way down the hall, thankfully not as loudly! In addition to that, the floors outside the rooms are tile, so people walking back and forth during all hours of the night can be heard from various floors due to the motel style design.
I am very thankful to how helpful they were, but the design of the building, makes sounds travel extra easily, and for light sleepers like us, would probably not be my first choice if we visit Clearwater again.

So, I’m a Marriott Rewards member and have stayed in so many Marriott’s that sometimes they all run together. We initially booked about 2 miles inland in Clearwater at, I think, the Residence Inn right there off of Court Street. Upon pulling into the lot and seeing what appeared to be a not-​so-​good crowd roaming and just an overall not-​good feeling, we called Marriott and asked if we could switch hotels and not lose my points that I used.
Anyways, we ended up booking at this hotel, the Clearwater Beach Marriott Suites, and drove on over. First off, I’m super picky with hotels. If I’m not feeling it I will leave. Upon first glance at this hotel, I really didn’t think it looked as nice as the aerial view on the website and I had this predisposed feeling that it was going to feel like a South Florida condo-​turned-​apartment by the looks of the outside.
Upon first entering the lobby, the live parrot was not having a good day. This thing was screaming. It was annoying. After one loud Unilocal he actually said something like «pretty bird» so it was hard to stay mad at him and I tried to put my annoyance aside. But, just imagine driving and being exhausted and walking into a lobby with a screaming parrot. It’s not the most pleasing sound.
The gentleman at the front desk was awesome. It was only about 1:00pm and after realizing check-​in wasn’t until 4:00, he said he would make sure and get us in right now and with a nice view. That he did. He got us on the 9^th floor with a great view of the bay and ocean on the other side. He also explained transportation options for us getting around in Clearwater Beach and pointed out where the bar (thank you!) was and restaurant. Probably one of the friendliest front desk agents I’ve encountered.
A lot of this location is the view. It’s situated right on the bay. The views are priceless. After going out for the night we came back to experience the bar and pool area. The bar was great. It’s pretty big and also has some of the most comfortable couches right next to the bay windows which makes for a great drinking spot. The drink prices were typical for the area and for a hotel. Two glasses of Hess Cabernet were $ 21.40 I believe… about the price of an entire bottle at Total Wine. We had a couple of those and decided to check out the pool.
We are not pool/​hot tub people due to reading too much garbage on the internet about all the stuff floating in these things but it was hard to pass up on the jacuzzi here. We sported the suits and headed down. It was awesome. The jacuzzi was temped just right and the pool was heated. Probably one of the best little pool areas around. The outside bar was closed but it looked cool. This would definitely be a great summer drinking/​swimming spot.
The only upsetting thing about our stay was the room service. It was borderline pathetic. Here’s why. So we ordered the hot wings and a Pizza Hut pizza which they cook right there in the hotel. It eventually came and it was wrong. We had ordered the Pepperoni Lovers and they brought Meat Lovers. Not a big deal unless your girlfriend doesn’t eat anything besides pepperoni. So, we call down and it’s close to when they are closing. Probably annoying unless you’re the ones who messed up the order. So, my girlfriend explains the issue and they don’t really apologize but say they’ll send another one up. So, as we wait and wait, we eventually get our pepperoni lovers. The funny thing was the room service woman actually asked for the other one back as if we were lying… at least that’s what it felt like. I was also bothered that on top of the gratuity already being added in I tipped additionally and it was still wrong.
So, after being very hungry and finally getting our corrected pizza, we sit down on the bed and take a bite… into…wait for it… dough. It was terrible. It was as if they didn’t even cook it. It was luke warm dough. I’m not kidding, the first piece actually fell apart in my hand! We were sorta appalled. So we called again.
Nobody offered to make us a new one they just said that they would take it off our bill and give us a free breakfast. We then went to the front desk in the morning to claim our «free» breakfast to find out is was only for the cold food, such as cheese, cereal, blah. So, it ended up not benefiting us at all and we had to pay $ 5 a person to get hot food, the least of which they could’ve offered us for sending us to bed hungry on their mistake.
All around, though we liked the hotel and the location. All the staff were friendly. I would highly recommend a re-​training on the room service team with a reminder that it’s not about walking out at 11:01pm when room service ends at 11:00pm. It’s about the guest, especially when you made the mistake. Customer Service 101!!!

My favorite part of this hotel is the balcony because for the first time in all the zillion hotels I’ve been to I found one that had peaceful silence. I’ll explain, I sure have seen some amazing sunsets over beautiful cities but not with total silence. No kids, no cars, no other people, no music… just a quiet view of the bay. Now, I can’t tell you if it’s always that way, but in a hotel with a spa on location, this hits the spot and is great to get away from the busy life. In the morning, I woke up to dolphins swimming. How awesome is that?!
Realistically, the hotel seems to cater more to adults than to kids. I travel for business so it works for me but, I want to point out that the hotel isn’t anything like Orlando or a Marriott Residential Suite. It is family friendly though. There isn’t a full kitchenette or an option for someone to do your grocery shopping. I’d hate to see a vacationer arrive and expect a resort, but that also means no hidden resort fee. Free parking (valet optional) and wifi is 9.95 but free to Gold status. The beach is across the street and would be a 5 minute walk.
The pool side is amazing. There is a waterfall and tiki bar with good quality chairs/​umbrellas to lay out on. My (first) visit is in November and there was no overcrowding. One thing I did not like was that the chairs needed a wipe down but with a towel over top, there wasn’t any real issue.
The room itself is mostly clean with a few rust spots and a paint touch up needed. Ironically, when I was checking out they were painting part of the hotel. The beds are super comfy and with the living room area, it was nice to space out. There is also a coffee maker, microwave and a mini fridge.
Return rating: 90%, the only major issue was the onsite restaurant was limited and pricey. Columbia is right next door though.
