I subscribed to Angies List for a year or so, both in Illinois and Cleveland. A few years ago I suppose they were more relevant and so I didn’t mind paying for the service, now I think they’re a rip off. There are way to many free resources on the net(i.e. Unilocal!!) One shouldn’t have to pay to find out if a business is reputable or not. In addition, I cancelled while still in Illinois only for them to charge my credit card again the following month. even though the card on file was expired. Their explanation was that the credit card company still let them run it through, so they did! And also that they never received my on line notification to cancel the subscription. Most recently I subscribed for 1 month only in Cleveland(before I discovered Unilocal) only to be charged the following month as well. Their explanation: Even though I subscribed for only a month they have an auto renewal policy! Wow! While they did refund the money in both cases, I still find it unimaginable that Angies List did to me the exact thing they are designed to protect consumers against. I still find it inexcusable. Side note: Their website is not user friendly at all!!! Every instance of trying to do self service ended in still having to make a phone call to them. Really irritating. Obviously, I do not recommend Angies List to anyone. What started as a good concept and service has been out done by modern and free ideas and technology.
