History

Established in 1925.

The thriving retailer had its inception in 1925. Seymour and Esther Fischgrund opened a small store on Euclid Avenue in downtown Cleveland specializing in dinette and dining room furniture. Mr. Fischgrund would stain or paint the furniture to order while Mrs. Fish, as she was affectionately known in the trade, would decorate it or stripe the seat backs and legs to match a color in their customer’s home décor.

In 1955, Al Geller, a young man who had been a salesman at the store prior to serving his country, returned, and took over running the day to day operations. In 1963, he then purchased the company from Mrs. Fish. Al along with his wife Norma Geller, who worked alongside him as the bookkeeper built up the business together.

In 1971, a 3,000-square-foot second location was opened in North Olmsted. Ten years later the downtown store was relocated to Mayfield Heights.
