Good place to take your pets. Would recommend calling ahead for an appointment.

Very nice people here. Great vets. Dr Blue is excellent. They’re helping me with my cat Leo currently, and his bladder/​crystals issue. The special diet he’s on and anti inflammatory he got seem to be working well.

No appointments which is nice– but also means long wait times. They just have a bench to sit on with many people and their pets waiting. The first time I went the vet herself was pleasant. I don’t like that they don’t really have separate rooms, so my dog will be on an exam table right next to someone else’s pet– which is very distracting for my dog as well as other pets. The front staff is very unfriendly. I was waiting once for over ten minutes and I finally walked out after nobody offered to help me (which is something I never do). Pricing isn’t awful if you’re willing to spend your whole day there waiting

Clean, spacious, quick, extremely affordable, and Tom the cat is feeling better already! Wouldn’t go anywhere else.

These are the kindest biggest heart people I’ve ever met in my son passed away we had all the proceeds go to gateway Animal Hospital Dr Brian came to my son’s funeral and they also sent flowers they have taken care of all of my dogs over the years giving us the best treatment I would definitely recommend gateway Animal Hospital any Clevelander or surrounding suburbs a plus service

I am so grateful for the help, professional service and great care that Gateway Animal Clinic provides. I have a beautiful sweet elderly dog who has had chronic ear problems. Dr. Brian and the staff at Gateway have worked diligently to get him back to health.
I have no problem waiting (I come early). The caring staff is kind, and helpful on the phone and in person.
Veterinary care can be very expensive. Gateway is reasonably priced. The quality of care is exceptional. I am so grateful to have found this resource for pet care. Thanks Gateway!

I used to take my pet here for check ups and emergencies. I went a couple weeks ago for a check up because I wanted to take advantage of the 20% discount they were offering on a dental cleaning. They wanted my pet to have a check up before scheduling a dental cleaning. I brought her in a Tuesday at 5pm. We waited about a half off before being seen. The vet who brought us back wanted to get blood work before an exam. My cat is not the most friendliest cat in the world so he said he would «take her in the back» to draw her blood. About 2 minutes later the vet comes out and says that they can’t draw her blood & I have the option of «knocking her out» to have blood drawn. I refused and he said he would try again. About a minute later he returned and said they could not get blood. We were brought back to the check out counter where one of the vet techs says to me «oh yeah, she wouldn’t come out of her carrier, so we couldn’t draw her blood». First of all, my cat was already scared from being in a waiting room with barking dogs for 30 minutes. Second, she is not going to walk right out of her carrier just because you ask her to. Third, the carrier’s lid pops off and you can pick my cat right up and out of the carrier. The past two times I have taken my cat there, I have used that carrier and the vet I saw then had no problem taking the top of the carrier off and picking my cat up to get her blood and her shots. I couldn’t believe what I heard from the tech & I almost fell over when they then proceeded to charge me 20 dollars. What for, I’m still not sure considering we were back there less than 5 minutes and they did absolutely nothing to my cat. I left Gateway extremely frustrated and will not be back.
On a side note, I ended up taking my cat over to Tremont Animal Clinic, where they were able to do her blood work and cleaning just fine. TAC also called Gateway to get my cat’s records, however, Gateway told them that they had no record on her.
Beware, Gateway is not what it used to be.

I went here a few weeks ago for my siamese cat. It was our first visit and we had a great experience.
We went on a Saturday morning and I while I wish we would’ve gotten there earlier, like 20 mins before 9 a.m., the wait wasn’t so bad.
We arrived at exactly 9, I left my cat in the car while I went to get a number and I was #26. I waited in the parking lot until they called my # (9:45ish). I checked in by giving them general information about my cat, age, name, etc. and went to wait in the car again because the waiting room was a little crowded and there was a lot going on in there. After about a 20 more minutes I went in the building and sat for about 10 mins longer.
They finally called his name. We went in the doors which was another office, that was shaped in a horseshoe with about 4 – 5 exam tables and other patients, owners and workers. It wasn’t crowded but I think my cat was a little spooked (it was his first time) however the assistant did a great job of comforting him. They weighed, examined, vaccinated and let us go in about 15 minutes. We were out by 10:45.
I loved how reasonably priced they were but never felt like the service was subpar bc of it. I think we’ve found our vet!

The set-​up configuration sucks. It’s not enjoyable to have your already anxious dog sit in an open room with every cat, dog, tom, dick and harry panting, barking and meowing for the usual 90 minutes that you wait to be seen. I’m not sure who thought this set-​up was a good idea because it’s not. The vets are decent but the receptionists are usually crabby and act like they have no idea why you’re standing at the desk with a sick pet.
Overall this place is below the mediocre level and I would only take my pets here as a last resort from now on.

Great prices. The first time I went I had to wait two hours though, so if you have an impatient pet, you might want to pass on this one ^^ Doctors were great though!

Probably can not add much, but this place was fast, caring and reasonable in terms of price. Like the no appt. policy… arrived here at 9:30 and was out by 10 or so. Only problem is puppy Maki has a hernia. Vet will monitor her along with the wife and I. Thanks to the Unilocaler below that noted they open earlier than 10… that was definitely the case on the day we visited.

Been here twice, yesterday being my second time.
Show up early! They let people in before the actual opening time. I went there on a Thursday. Got there at 9:30am (supposed to open at 10am). Doors were already open. You go in, take a number like at a deli, and either sit or wait outside to be registered. I was number 15, and they were registering number 7. Then, they call you a little bit later to actually see your pet. Wait on a Thursday was not bad at all. I was done by 10:30am or so, which is much better than what I had expected based on my first experience.
That being said… avoid Saturdays… the first time I went here, the wait was like maybe 1.5 hours or so when I arrived at 9am.
The vets and vet techs are so nice; they explain things, answer all your questions, and still manage to take really good care of your pet. Very very good prices. I expected the visit for my puppy who has worms to be around 100 $ or more, but total price was $ 62.
Breakdown of prices (which adds up to more than $ 62, but they only charged me $ 62):
$ 39 for vet visit
$ 8 for ear drops
$ 24 for stool analysis
$ 15 for heartworm, flea, tick prophylaxis
$ 0 for worm treatments
Bottom line, great vets, cheap prices, come here on a weekday if you want a shorter wait time.

I’m definitely a believer in Gateway. It’s not without its hangups, but I’d definitely recommend this place to any pet owner in the area.
My recent experience was a little off-​putting at times, but definitely solidified my trust in the doctors here. Little Caper had a sudden eye injury recently, so I called the clinic to confirm their hours and see when I should take her in, since she was obviously in pain. I called and got the go ahead that if I arrived before 3:30pm, she’d be seen for sure. Racing over in the rain, I arrived with about 3 minutes to spare and grabbed a number off of the counter. One woman behind the desk had actually buzzed me in and smiled at me as I took the number and sat down. Another receptionist then brought out her scowl and scolded the other woman and told me I’d either have to leave or wait for evening hours. She wasn’t budging. She also wasn’t very nice. So, standing there, slightly damp from the rain, with a crying kitty and somewhat distressed myself, I thought through my options. I ended up checking in and getting called back within 10 minutes, but wow did that woman not want to help. She wasn’t encouraging and I never saw her crack a smile the whole time I was there. The same goes for the staff that was there during the follow-​up visit. No one smiled or greeted anyone happily. Not very encouraging, but that’s not the point, I guess. So, I’d give the front desk help about 3 stars at best.
But, the important part are the nurses and doctors here, despite the cranky front deskers. The people actually handling the pets are the reason people come here and they are fabulous. I dealt with 2 different doctors between the initial visit and the follow-​up and got very good, concise information regarding her condition and how to handle her treatment. They were nothing but helpful, soothing (to Caper and myself) and didn’t do or say anything unnecessary or confusing. Seriously, so helpful. They handle your pet well, the areas are clean and everything is done in a friendly and professional manner.

This place is great. Best vets ever.
I really appreciated it when they commented that Wedge the Cat has very good teeth for being 11 years old. I beamed with pride.
Also, my gato is getting kind of porky in his old age, so they suggested some not-​so-​difficult ways to get him trimmer. I am already seeing some results. I might have to start doing more situps just to keep up with his lean and mean physique.
As long as I live in Cleveland, Gateway will be the vet I go to.

I took my dog there for the last couple years of his life. Each time I went, I became more & more frustrated. The prices rose to the point where they even began charging people for having the doctor return a phone call (yes, this actually showed up on my bill once.) There is only one lady I like at the front desk, the rest of them are rude & very short with you. I understand this to a point, because the clientele they typically deal with is not very patient, but they also need to understand that it’s hard to be patient when there are over 12 dogs/​cats and their owners all cramped in one waiting room sitting for 2 hours. It was overwhelming at times for my elderly dog to deal with this every time we went. It stressed him out and made me feel the same way.
The only reason I kept returning was for Dr. Bob. He is fantastic and took great care with my dog. He did a lot to make him happy & comfortable at the end of my dog’s life. I will always be grateful to him for this.
A lot of their problems can be solved by just simply beginning to take appointments. They could have a couple doctors on staff for walk ins & then everyone else is by appointment only. I can’t imagine that a lot of their clients would disagree with this.

Yes, it’s first come, first served. Yes, Saturday mornings can be total chaos. Yes, there are a lot more dogs than cats.
If you can deal with that, they are great vets. I think I’ve probably seen every vet there and I’ve had a great experience with all of them. They have all been very caring, understanding, helpful, good with explanations, and the prices are affordable. They work pretty efficiently, but I never feel like the care has been rushed. (Unlike some of my own doctors!)
There are times when you can be «triaged» toward the front of the line. When i’ve known it was time for euthanasia, I’ve been taken to a private room as soon as one is available. I’ve always had a private room for that, and I’ve been given time to sit and say goodbye. They will also move animal up with medical emergencies that need immediate attention.

I love this Vet. I’ve been several times w/​my kitties. While I’m not a fan of the waiting area (seriously people, do you not know how to behave in an open area w/​mixed pets?!). In my experience, Saturdays are harry carry around there, so be prepared for a wait. In fact, a wait each and every time.
I have had 3 different vets on my many visits and I can’t complain about a single one. They always seem very happy to listen to me and to take special care and time with my critters.
I recommend this place for your pets. Oh, and did I mention they are reasonable?

Been taking my kitties here for years. Kurt Russell and Bill Murray dont get too scared and feel at ease. The new location is shiny and spankin new! The only thing is if you have cats the barking, obnoxious dogs can freak em out a bit…

I love Gateway! Dr. Bob is truly worthy of all the superlative compliments! I also loved Dr. Abby, who was so sweet to my dog when he came down with kennel cough.
You can tell they truly care about all the animals that they treat.
Yes, the waiting room and wait times can be inconvenient — but I personally would rather wait here to see the great vets than have an appt at a clinic whose vets I didn’t think so highly of.
I think part of it is that if you are there with a sick pet, the anxiety of the situation might make the wait time seem longer than it is. When I brought my cat in for what I though was kidney failure, I was in near hysterics by the time her name was called, because it seemed like hours (it was only 20 minutes). But when I bring my dog in for routine shots or when I picked him up after his neuter, the wait was 45 minutes to an hour and didnt seem as bad.

You have no idea how important it is to have a trustworthy vet until you have a pet.
I’m lucky enough to be the new fur-​momma of an adorable rescue pup, Archie. He’s the perfect little man and it was surely love at first sight… especially since I drove 10 hours to Hagerstown, MD and back just to get ‘em.
Anyways, I searched Unilocal to find a great vet around downtown Cleveland that I could trust with my new fur babe. And once again, CLE Unilocalers have not let me down. They pointed me right to Gateway Animal Clinic, which I’ve driven by numerous times but never thought twice about.
Unilocalers also let me on to the whole «first come, first serve» style of this vet clinic, so I wasn’t confused when I walked in. Actually, I got the first ticket! So, I waited a short while and was welcomed in with my Archie to the examining room.
I’m not sure which vet I saw, but she was very sweet and thorough with her examination. She answered all of my questions and let me get my typical nervousness out. Unfortunately she informed me that little Arch has a heart murmur that needs further examination. So, that broke my heart, but she recommended some heart specialists to go to for more support. The one thing I would have hoped for was more practical, everyday advice on how to care for Archie’s murmur, how to keep him healthy, etc.
Even the receptionist/​nurse was sugar-​sweet! She gave me lots of helpful tips on who to go to for training and took the time to chat with me a little. I think she could tell that I was a little shaken-​up by the news, so she took extra time to talk with me. So appreciated.
Overall, you can’t beat Gateway for the cost. $ 37 dollars for a check-​up? With vets that nice and thorough? You can’t beat that. I was also able to stock up on heartworm meds, and noticed that I could just stop by the front desk to buy more when I need it. Huge convenience!
Archie and I will definitely be back for his yearly check-​ups!
