I have to write a review for Jim’s Meats because he’s been a great business owner at the West Side Market. He has a pretty large stand there and sells both pork and beef, which is pretty rare for a WSM stall. All of it is local — mostly from Youngstown or Sandusky area farms. The first time I came here, I was looking for a special cut of beef for my husband. He was craving a steak, so I asked Jim about what to get. He’s a pretty friendly and fun owner and suggested a filet mignon. He told me to trust him — my husband would like it. And he was right. Second time I’ve been there is because another stand was closed for vacation(the only stall that cuts beef short ribs Korean/galbi style.) I asked Jim if he could cut it for me, and he helped me out. He even took a special trip to his reserves to get uncut short rib for me. FYI, if you want to get galbi(Korean style short rib), it’s called«English style». So for that, I have to give him a Unilocal shoutout. On that note, I wish more places did Asian style cuts of meat! Most of it is Western. But thanks to those like Jim who will accommodate their customers no matter what.
