Modern Day Chimney Service

I recently had these guys come in and do a standard cleaning and inspection of my home’s chimney. I have little experience with chimneys, but I knew enough to get by. I have a wood-​burning insert with a glass front.
First, and something that they seriously need to address, I had a hell of a time attempting to get a hold of them to even set up the cleaning, and when I did get an answer, communication was so poor that I almost called someone else. They have two phone numbers for the two sides of Cleveland, and I called the West side number because I live in Lakewood. No one answered the phone on the first day, and the automated answering machine said the mailbox was full. It’s literally always full. I called around to a few other places to compare prices and see what services I could get. I scheduled a service the day after with someone else, but decided to call Modern Day Chimney again just to see if someone answered. They did. I set up an appointment for 4pm on a Tuesday. No one showed up. No phone call, no message of any sort. I got a call the next day saying they could not make their 4pm Wednesday appointment to check out my chimney… Okay… wrong day, but whatever, I need this done. Let’s reschedule. We set a Saturday appointment at 1 pm. No one showed up. No phone call. Getting pretty damn frustrated at this point. Waste my time, don’t communicate with me… GAH.
I called on Monday to tell them I was disappointed in the service and lack of communication and would be getting work from someone else. No answer. Voice mailbox full… Guess I’ll just work with someone else.
I get a call back a few hours later, the guy hears me out, and says he wants to set up an appointment today whenever I want. We set a 5 pm. They have trouble getting to my house. They give me the address they have and it just wasn’t even close. Poor communication again on their part. I give them instructions from a major intersection and meet them at my place. Finally! Work to be done!
They did great here. The work they did was quick, clean, and well done. They removed their boots before coming in, made sure I understood what I had, and instructed me on what they were going to do. They talked me through a bit of what I had and how to care for my fireplace and chimney. They also mentioned a few other things that would need work, such as some tuck pointing that they noticed needed work. I already knew about it, but it was good that they were looking for these things. Work was done in 30 minutes, which was worth the $ 100 for the cleaning. One guy gave me a contact for wood cords to purchase and said he always sold below market. Neat, I needed one. We discussed their poor communication and he blew it off. It seemed like there was too much business for them and they didn’t have a dedicated secretary to organize the work. I would recommend them except for this point. It was a frustrating experience, but I’m glad the work got done. I hope it was quality, because I am not able to properly inspect the fireplace and chimney myself.
