University Hotel and Suites

Don’t use your hard working made money on this place. I understand it’s older but it’s disgusting. I don’t need a nice tv in my hotel room. All I want is a clean room. Glass all over the parking lot. Doesn’t cost money to get it picked up. The room was filthy and so were the hallways. My boyfriend wouldn’t shower there because of how gross it was. There were dirty napkins in the table by the bed and trash under the beds.

Didn’t even book a room. Reviews were bad. When I called about a double room they insisted that there is no such thing. Luckily I didn’t book one online because it said 4 available double rooms. So frustrated that I went elsewhere.

Dirty, dirty, dirty. I have tried to be positive as much as I can, but this hotel have the world record in the dirties place on earth. The furniture, rugs, walls, toilet, floor, elevator … Etc. they are all dirty.

this place is disgusting, the cops told me they drop off homeless people here! They told me that nothing but drug addicts live here! Save your $ 60 per night and sleep in your car!

It’s an OLD hotel. Keep that in mind. Our kind and gracious host, Lonnie the night manager (who gets 5 stars for his cheerful attitude and hard work to leave no stone unturned in order to make his guests comfortable) kept reciting that mantra as he went all out to make things right when our first room had a problem (undependable door lock).
It’s an old hotel that hasn’t had much done in the way of facelift for some time, so, yes the carpet is worn and kinda dingy, ditto the wallpaper. But the bathroom sink, tub and floor were nice and clean, the bed and bedclothes were clean, decently comfortable, the heater worked well even if it looked pretty old and banged up, the refrigerator, microwave and TV were the same: they’re old, but they work.
We stayed three nights. Never tried the breakfast as we were too busy every day indulging in great eateries around Cleveland, with the money we saved by choosing a budget hotel.
They have a pantry if you get the munchies and don’t feel like going out again, microwaveable burgers, cheesesteak sandwiches, as well as chips, noodle bowls, soda, juice, ice cream, etc. They will also drive you downtown free in the shuttle. (Über is about $ 7 from here to downtown.)
At no time did we feel any concern for safety in the hotel or in the parking lot.
I can’t say enough about Lonnie and his assistants, which included his wife. If you check in and something’s not right, he will get it solved for you. Tell him I sent ya.
So: if you MUST have a flat screen TV and elegant aromatherapy shampoo bottles, go spend $ 200 a night plus parking. As for me, this was a satisfactory place to crash after great days and nights in Cleveland.

The staff is very nice and there’s a bus stop right out front that will get you to CSU, the Agora, etc. I would recommend for a one night stay where you won’t spend much time in the room (in town for a game or concert). Our room was clean and didn’t smell of smoke, although there are smoking rooms. The amenities are very limited, though, and there was a water stain on the ceiling. The soap and shampoo is probably the same quality you would get in prison, so bring your own if that’s a consideration. We looked at the free breakfast but ended up eating elsewhere. It was basically cereal and English muffins. They do have juice, coffee and tea, as well. There is free wi-​fi that had a very strong signal, which is always a plus.

And after all that, a week later I broke out in bites, which from bed bugs can take over a week to appear. Since I changed nothing at home and was nowhere else, I am forced to believe I was bitten at this hotel. It also explains the weird smell I experienced from the bed.

Avoid this place at all costs. It’s not worth the cheap room price. This hotel is located in a sketchy part of town. The hotel reeks of smoke, weed, vomit, piss, etc. The rooms are not very well presented. The free breakfast was terrible. Overall bad experience, but you get what you pay for…

Checked In and Checked Out immediately after walking through the hotel. The entire hotel smelled like smoke, extremely dirty and I did not feel safe. 0 stars.

This hotel was bad, but not that bad. However, it will still have one star.
The hotel itself seems pretty sketchy from the exterior, from having an ugly parking lot and very questionable people standing in front of the hotel.
The lobby smells of cigarettes and the employees working the front desk look okay, but not professional. They are very rude.
I’m not even gonna write a full on review because it just won’t summarize how terrible the hotel truly is. Just know that:
–The ENTIRE PLACE (INCLUDING THE ROOMS) smell just like cigarettes and marijuana
–Continental Breakfast is soooooo unsanitary
–Area is sketchy as hell
–Better off somewhere else

This place is as bad as the other reviewers suggest. I stayed here with a group of my friends in April 2015. The hotel has clearly not been maintained at all over the years. When checking in the manager on duty was rude and annoyed that we were asking two non — smoking rooms with double beds even though this is what our paid reservation was for that we booked weeks in advance.
The elevators had a constant strong horrible smell of what seemed like a combination of pot and vomit. I have never been in elevators that smelled so bad all the time. The carpet in the room was coming up everywhere. Wallpaper was literally tapped on. There was a red stain on the wall that I hope was ketchup. Gum mashed into the floor. The two lamps by the bed didn’t work. The bathroom floor was sticky and the ceiling clearly had water leaks at one time or multiple.
On the upside the location is great and the bartender was super friendly. He was the only friendly staff member.
Overall not the worst hotel I have stayed in but definitely still a shit hole that I would never stay at again!

I am basing this review strictly upon the interaction that I/​we had with the bartender, Tony.
I have never stayed here. My husband has on numerous occasions. He has never had an issue however that is not the topic at hand.
I stopped in to visit with Hub. Attentive daughter was driving. My stay was somewhat compromised in that I needed to get home after an extended early morning day trip. How shall I start? Other than to say that Tony, the bartender, excelled at all duties required by, well, a bartender. And more.
Tony is funny. He is more than willing to assist with food procurement. He is what you want in a bartender. My stay may have been short however I was impressed.

This might be the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. We only stayed because we were literally only going to sleep in the hotel for about 6 hours. It was SO cheap and couldn’t resist.
The wall paper was peeling, it smelled very bad, the sheets were gross…
The continental breakfast in the morning looked like 200 year old English muffins and the worst coffee i’ve ever had.

Bed bugs in my rollout. Absolutely ravished me. 40+ bites. Stayed here last week after a show at the Agorra. Such a bad week dealing with this.

So the night before I was scheduled to stay at University Hotel and Suites, I decided to check out the reviews on Unilocal (bad idea), and was pretty terrified to visit after reading a few reviews. Maybe my expectations hit rock bottom and could not go any lower, because I was «pleasantly» surprised when I got to my room.
The hotel overall seems a bit old and worn down, but still functional and clean enough. The people at the front desk were really friendly and welcoming, which I appreciated. My room itself was satisfactory — it was really spacious and had no (noticeable) red flags for cleanliness.
They have a complimentary breakfast from 6am-​10am in the morning, which I appreciated because most hotels I’ve been to close off their breakfast by 9am. The food selection is minimal (a couple cereal choices, toast, English muffins, etc.), but hey, it’s all free. I opted for some cereal and an English muffin, but threw away the latter because it tasted oddly sour (gross).
Overall, I would probably opt to stay elsewhere if I were in this area again, but I definitely did not have the horror-​story experience that other Unilocalers had.

Gross gross gross. After reading reviews I gave it a chance because it was down the street from where I needed to be and it was cheap. You pay cheap you get cheap. The host were rude. It’s ghetto. Dirty. They do a ½ ass job cleaning. I stayed a week and they changed my sheets ONCE they used the same sheet. Eww. So I probably slept in the same sheet that have been there weeks before I got there. Tube television? Lol. Thin walls you hear people having sex in the next room. I had to put in ear plugs. People playing load bass music I called the front desk they did nada.
DON’T go there!

Disgusting… Poop in the toilet, hair, pubes in the sink, tub and sheets. Greasy hand prints and unknown splatter on the headboard, room smelled like pee. Carpet was dirty and not vacuumed in years, it appeared. And why were there people just hanging around in the hallway? Left without staying there, loosing my non refundable, two night stay through

This place was horribly disgusting. HORRIBLY. My wife and I played «guess that stain» on everything from the blankets to the doors to the walls. We’d call the front desk to complain, but the phone DIDN’T HAVE BUTTONS. If we weren’t so lazy, we would have relocated. We used napkins to sleep on after making sure the mattress wasn’t infested. Free shuttle to Cleveland Clinic though!

Don’t go here.
We made a reservation for one room with two queen beds for two nights. The first night we got in around ten from out of town, checked in, got up to our room – and it was filthy. Blankets turned back, towels on the bathroom floor. So we went back to the front desk, got the room changed, no big deal, right?
The kids climbed into one bed and fell asleep, my fellow and I stayed up reading for another hour or two. When it came time for us to sleep, we flipped back the blankets, and a filthy – really grimy! – pair of men’s underwear came tumbling out of them. The sheets had never been changed; the bed had simply been made around the dirty sheets that someone else had slept in.
Grossed out, I went downstairs to ask for new sheets. The girls were asleep, it was nearly one in the morning and we had to be up at seven. Another room change at that hour would have seen me with a pair of really cranky kids on my hands, so I thought we’d just change the sheets and talk to the manager in the morning. I wait at the front desk for (according to the clock) nearly 35 minutes before the desk manager returns with my sheets in hand. «I had to pull them from a dryer, that’s why they’re not folded!» he said, and pushed them into my hands. Exhausted, I trundle back into the elevator and up to the room.
And when I unfold the sheet, it’s got angular, stiff stains of a yellowish shade. Someone had ejaculated all over it. Maybe it had just come from the dryer, but I assure you I’d never seen a washer.
I was furious. In the morning, when the owner arrived, I went downstairs while the girls were eating and he told me it was early, I should come back later. We were just about to leave, so I told him that wasn’t possible; he said he’d heard what happened, and (in a bad temper) that he’d comp the room.
And then (surprise, surprise!) refused to, when it actually came time to pay.
Don’t go here! Don’t ever go here. It’s foul, the cleaning staff is evidently incompetent, and the manager is a dick.

What a shithole. Worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Windows filthy hallways dirty. Appliances not working. No towels. Unsafe fixtures throughout. Got caught in Elevator doors (no safety). Insects throughout, definitely fleas, possibly bedbugs. Spoiled food in fridge upon entering hotel room. Can’t believe this place is liscensed to operate.
