History

Established in 1991.

Digital Press began in 1991 as a bi-monthly newsletter reaching out to classic videogame players and collectors. From this outreach, a team of experts was formed to create the Videogame Collectors Guide, a price and rarity guide akin to Beckett’s for baseball card collectors, but with an encyclopedic, informative slant on the games.

In 1997 Digital Press joined the world wide web and formed the Retrogaming Roundtable, one of classic gaming’s busiest places to discuss (and trade in) vintage games.

In the years to follow, Digital Press would publish several books as well as produce a videogame-themed dance music CD (performed by Tony Fox NYC), a ColecoVision game (Ms. Space Fury), and over 70 issues of the originating fanzine. The Digital Press banner even hung above the «History of Videogames» exhibit at E3 in Los Angeles in 2004.

In 2005 the retail store in Clifton, NJ opened, bringing together fans of classic gaming as well as new releases.

— In 1991 co-founded Digital Press with Kevin Oleniacz, a project originally designed to gather videogame collectors in the pre-internet era.

— In 1993 Digital Press was voted «Fanzine of the Year» by Video Gaming & Computer Entertainment magazine.

— Published the «Videogame Collector’s Guide» in 1994, which has since seen seven volumes and has been split into separate classic (NES and back) and advance (TurboGrafx-16 thru PlayStation) books.

— Founded and wrote «Collector’s Closet» for Tips & Tricks magazine for nearly 4 years. The column was designed to enlighten readers on past and current videogame collectibles.

— Co-organizes Las Vegas’ «Classic Gaming Expo» since 2000. Classic Gaming Expo celebrates videogaming’s rich history by drawing both fans and alumni to an annual meeting spot.

— Director of The Videogame History Museum, which travels and exhibits in trade and public shows all over the country including E3 and GDC in California, SXSW in Texas and PAX East in Boston.

What more can be said about this beyond amazing store that hasn’t been said already? Too many fond memories going to this place for nearly ten years! For starters they can repair pretty much any game or system for a fair price! They repaired my NES for $ 20 which needed new pins thank goodness for my NES is my most prized possession for 27 years and counting! Staff is beyond friendly knowledgable and caring and prices are reasonable from Atari to ps4! Trade in values are fair and they accept pretty much anything game related so bring your trades in you never know if they will accept it or not! Arcade games are available there for you to play as well and they have a nice selection of comic books art books and old game magazines as well! They have monthly game tournaments where you can win cold hard cash and every last Saturday of every month is the monthly store convention called NAVA with free tournaments free snacks and first come first serve for you to freely sell anything game related you want space permitting once a month. All in all any self respecting video game fans owe it to themselves to visit this place which has been in great hands ever since founder Joe santulli moved on to his video game museum project in Texas DIGITAL PRESS I SALUTE YOU!!!

I didn’t know about video game values when I was trading in. Once I learned of resell value and rarity, I discovered I was low balled by Raj. Raj gave me 5 bucks for a $ 30. trade.

Finally got here after ages of wanting to see what this place has to offer. I must say if you are an old school gamer this place is a must visit! Most likely if you are into the classic video games and live in the area you’ve most likely at least heard of this place.
They offer games in used and mint codition. They usually charge the current market price. The stuff behind glass is usually where you find your gems like boxed games and bestsellers. Many cases abound with games from various systems. The loose games out in the open are usually the b stock games. It is worth a search through these as I found some underrated N64 games like Turok and Star Wars Episode 1 Racer for $ 6.99 each! If you really want to get your game on before you get home, they have classic arcade machines to play as well!
I must also add accessories were quite affordable as well. Bought an N64 power chord and av chord for 9.99 each.
In addition to all that, the best thing about this spot is everyone here is very engaging, informative, and offer a great deal of expertise.
Got a busted system? If the mother board isn’t completely fried they can fix it! Prices vary on repairs. This is great because a lot of folks want their systems running optimally for many years to come.
So I strongly encourage you to visit Digital Press! I’ll be back here again quite a bit! They offer up nostalgia with a side of expertise! It’s all you would expect and much, much more!

First time here and i think this place is terrific. My brother and I have basically kept all our original machines from Atari to now minus the Commodore 64… long story, and decided to create a game room in our man caves. We went to several retro game stores and found this to be a superb place to find the games you are looking for. They sell them two ways. cartridges for the gamers, complete in original packaging for the collectors. my brother is the collector and im the gamer, so this was perfect for us. the place is neatly separated by cartridges and boxed by their systems. they even have a museum section. my brother spent two to three hundred and left with over 20 – 30 cartridges. the reason i gave this place a 4 out of 5 is that i had to drive hr plus so its not really convenient for a new yorker, especially paying the the tolls and the 75 cent increase, even with the ez-pass. The other is that some of the more popular items like links, dk, marios are not here so if you are looking for them, its a hit or miss.

I am only being so generous with my score because the store has ample parking, is opened 7 days a wk. and is easily accessible and very affordable compared to one particular video game store in the same niche market but the employees don’t go out of your way to help you and are impolite. When I go here I always make sure to purchase the cheapest video games and purchase a limited amount since I was told one my ps2s «isn’t even worth fixing if it is broken because it is so old.» you would think a bunch of bumbling morons working for a retro video game store would appreciate classics. I’d only go here if I had restricted options which I do because admitedly my system is a bit antiquated but it isn’t useless and shouldn’t be overlooked! Memo to staff: Plenty of people still use their ps2 you miserable losers.

This is the best video games shop ever. They’ve got everything you can imagine. There is everything from the first generation such as Atari up to the current generation like PS4, Xbox One, Wii U. The Angry Video Game Nerd and Nostalgia Critic battled here. What more do you need to know?

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE RUDE AND UNFRIENDLY’ Let me start by saying this place itself is pretty cool — lots of vintage finds! Haven’t found a place like this close to me. A bit sad that a lot of the stuff I wanted was sold out but it is a popular place so I wasn’t upset about that. The reason im rating this 1 star (which it actually deserves less) is because THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS TRASH!!! Employees were too busy doing their own thing and seemed like they didn’t want to be bothered.
The guy who I asked first for help was not helpful whatsoever and didn’t seem to want to help me. I asked if he could help me find a specific game because there was so much to look through! And of course it was my first time there — he told me I would just have to look through everything myself. Ridiculous! I also asked for a certain game system and he told me they only had the display box — which turned out they actually did have it in stock because I eventually found it! Not very informative or friendly.
Now, the female employee was way too busy having personal conversations with someone instead of offering me help. I was literally standing in front of her and she completely ignored me. F**KING RUDE. I finally decided to interrupt her kindly «excuse me could you help me?» She gave me a dirty look and apologized to the person she was talking to for having to stop her personal conversation!!! Lastly, Instead of walking me to the item I asked for she simply pointed in the direction lol.
I was turned off obviously and decided not to purchase anything. I will not return unless they decide to hire friendly helpful dam people.

I went to Digital Press fly first time this past afternoon. The store has a great selection of games from the current generation to previous generations of games. The store has displays from various different eras of games, including an Atari Jaguar demo display.
In my visit to the store, I found the customer service great. We had a young woman help us out with the purchase of a Nintendo 64. The same woman helped us out with check out. Even on a call with a customer. Great service! I’ll definitely try to come here again next time I come to Jersey.

Wide range of products, great staff very cool people, prefer to go here rather than GameStop. See it for yourself and go on a nostalgic video game trip. Lots of retro games and is Great for the whole family. I highly recommend this place for a go to Game Shop.

Everything you could ever want in the history of gaming might possibly lie here. I was reminiscing on my childhood going through all the PS One games available. The store can be pricey at times but I equate it to the exclusivity or hard to come by items in their selection. Would love to see some newer releases here though. If you’re in town, you need to check this place out.

Always liked coming into this place for sheer nostalgia; the arcade machines near the entrance and the museum display in the back (which is updated every now and then) are a very nice touch. However, it was only until recently that I realized how great the customer service is and how knowledgeable the workers are.
I was searching for Pokemon Emerald, which if asked for at Gamestop will ellicit chuckles (as they stopped selling GBA titles years ago). I went to craigslist but there’s problems there as well as the game could be a fake import, have a dead battery, or have problems saving. Not only did they have Emerald for the lowest price (compared to everywhere else I looked), but they even installed a new battery. From now on I’m coming here for all my gaming needs, be they retro or modern.

The number one spot to go and find your favorite classic video game collectibles and so much more. Being a frequent going to the store I have purchased countless classics from their location and many more. Sometimes it’s hard to find some really classic games because as soon as they come in they go right out the door. It’s also awesome that they carry the NAVA each and every month. There is always a theme setting on that involves gamers and geeks like us to mingle and talk video game talk. I highly recommend any game player to at least check out this store once has it will bring you back to the time when you were so young and claim that old school Nintendo

This place is great! I go out of my way to avoid GameStop and Best Buy, because I go here! These folks love all things games and are good to there customers. I refer hardcore gamers to this place all the time because its home to all games and consoles. Its a true jewel of north Jersey.

I love this place. I love how they have everything that you always wanted as a kid. The only thing that stinks about this place, is that you look at something that they’re selling and you tell yourself, «Oh wow… I remember this game! I played this all the time.» You then look at the year it was made. 1993!!! Ohhhhh man! It’s like a time capsule. I wish there were more of these stores around!

This store is the place of dreams. my brother and I have been going here for years. The collection of vintage games here is ridiculous. The staff is always friendly and extremely knowledgable, not just in regards to current-gen titles but the old stuff too. Not to mention, you can bring your broken console to DP and they can try and fix it for you, or at the very least tell you want the problem is.
If you want to buy a video game, go here, NOT Gamestop. Support the local businesses and help carry on the Digital Press community!

I love these guys. I hope they stay in business for a long time and even expand. I’d love to see their owner open his own arcade one day, too! (Perhaps where Fun n’ Games used to be? That would be awesome!)
I try to buy as many games as I can here. This location is iconic since, for many years, it was a comic book store (outer limits.) It is now a super awesome videogame shop. Never again must anyone suffer at Gamestop!
Not just new games, either — they have a catalog of games from pretty much every era, genre, and console. It really is unbeatable. If you can’t find it anywhere else, and it’s related to videogames, Digital Press always has it.
The staff is always nice. It can be intimidating to go in — Especially if you’re a shy person — But you realize right away that it’s totally friendly, and you don’t have to worry at all about being looked down upon. Just be yourself!
I would love to see them get into the competitive gaming scene, I’ll admit. Super Street Fighter IV, Marvel Vs Capcom 3, Blazblue: Continuum Shift… They should take over the north jersey scene now that we no longer have an arcade or place to meet to play these games. It could even bring in money. (Charge an entry fee to compete, venue fee, whatever the type.) It would be a lot of fun.
Still, awesome place. Make sure to check out their online community which is also excellent!

This place is wonderful. If you are looking for anything video game related be sure to stop here first! They have a fantastic selection of games, systems, and accessories. Looking for something old or obscure? They probably have it! Anything from the Atari to the Playstation 3 is available at this store.
Monthly NAVA meetings gather gamers from all over to swap, buy and trade goods. It’s a great way to meet fellow gamers and geek out while browsing the wonderful selection the store has to offer. There are also gaming tournaments as well.
For the rare items you can find here the prices are great. You can find accessories and systems at affordable prices. This is not a store that gouges a price of an older game just because it’s 10 years old.
You won’t find the clueless cashiers from Gamestop here. The people that runs this store are avid gamers and know everything there is to know about the items in the store. This is a hidden gem in NJ. If you call yourself a gamer be sure to visit this store. You won’t be disappointed! :)
