Gotham City Orthopedic

Looks like this facility is involved in price gauging together with Bayonne Hospital.
In addition to the $ 25,000 bill from Bayonne Hospital for an ER visit due to my broken wrist– I received a $ 34,000 bill from this facility under Sean L. Lager MD for his services. Services from a doctor that never saw me nor spoke to me— I mean I never met the man in my life.
I was seen by a Physician Assistant at Bayonne Hospital, but never by Sean L. Lager MD.
The PA attempted to perform a reduction to the best of his ability (twice), and it still was not done properly. Then again, not a surprise as a PA is not a doctor nor an orthopedist specialist. It was crazy when at one point the PA recommended I had to have surgery the next day. My wife and I were wondering how can a PA recommend such a thing when I was never even seen by an orthopedist specialist. I am so happy I did not listen to him or the people at the hospital– I visited not one but two professional orthopedic surgeons on my own, days after my accident and both said that performing a wrist surgery the next day or same day would not be standard procedure that it is best for the swelling on the wrist and hand to subside and that surgery should take place 10 to 15 days after the incident to minimize complications.
Fast forward 4 months, am being grossly overcharged for the services I have never received directly from Sean L. Lager MD, a doctor I never even met. His pricing is outrageous. I have since researched and the the national average for the services Dr. Lager has provided is around $ 3,000. NOT what he and his facility is charging me. To conclude this place and its physicians are grossly negligent, grossly unprofessional and evidently money hungry.

They are the best! They provide great customer service, answer any questions you may have and assist with all your needs. Dr. Henderson is very personable and professional. Jessica is also the BEST medical assistant an office can have. Every time I needed help she was and is always willing to help. I can’t thank them enough!

Not bowled over with this practice. Experiencing excruciating pain and have not heard back from the doctor. Practically crawled down to office from the PT office (staff seemed very disinterested in my pain), and was sent home rather than given a new Rx. Ultimately told I had to come back to get Rx in person. It was difficult enough for me to get there initially, and now they expect me to come back. Receptionist seemed incredulous that the original pain killer wasn’t working. Didn’t realize I had to answer to her, but since I haven’t heard from doctor, perhaps she’s the one to deal with around there. Feeling frustrated… and still in lots of pain.

I found the staff to be knowledgeable, friendly and readily available for instruction, modification, and humor, when needed. Their assessment was on target and I was able to achieve 95% recovery in 8 weeks after a total hip replacement. (My doctor, Dr. Timothy Henderson, I would strongly recommend!). Facility is clean, well spaced and easily located. Appointments were available at convenient times for me.

Very friendly and competent. They have an X-​ray machine so there’s no need for a visit to a radiologist. They have a physical therapy department with a nice clean space and friendly staff.

I sprained my back and was the first time I ever did so and was at a complete lost as to what to do. I had never been to a chiropractor and wasnt keen on getting my back cracked and realigned so a friend suggested physical therapy. I went to my first appointment at Gotham in Clifton and was extremely nervous not knowing what to expect. I went on a Saturday and didnt wait long and was greeted warmly by my physical thrapist Alfredo he allowed me to throughly go through what happened to my back and where the pain was. As we went through therapy he talked and made me feel at ease. He went through step by step what he was doing and how it was going to help. After the session he took the time to show me a few exercises i could do at home to help stretch my back out. He was warm, knowledgeable and patient and had a skill of making me feel comfortable. For my first session not only did i feel much better but i feel comfortable coming back for any other problems i may have.

Pros: Convenient Office in Jersey City. I see Dr Heitman, who is friendly and compassionate. Takes his time when I finally get to see him. I believe my ACL/​Meniscus repair went well.
CONS: At least double book their appointments. Heard someone come in after me with the same appointment time to see the same doctor. I have NEVER seen the doctor without waiting AT LEAST 1 hr. I believe the record was an hour and forty five minutes. When you are at the point that you want to storm out because you think they have forgotten about you, it’s not a good feeling. I have also been in the waiting room with the first appointment of the day and seen my doctor walk in wearing street clothes a half hour after my appointment. Frustrating and unacceptable.
I was going to let that all go since I like my doctor. But then I started having billing issues. First, they referred me out of network for an MRI at Christ Hospital who ended up billing about 13x the industry standard for the procedure. Then, when trying to deal with Gotham’s billing office I can go weeks without hearing from them. I have even had to give them billing information multiple times to pay THEM! Why am I the responsible for that!
Overall: Good Doc, good location. However, I have a feeling there are better options. Keep looking.

Clean, modern office, sometime a little slow as one reviewer stated, but that’s because the doctors are very thorough, they take their time to ensure you get the best possible service.
My daughter plays academy soccer and has gotten various injuries in the last 3 years and Dr. Yeoh has taken excellent care of her. He is very personable, great with kids and explains everything you want to know. He gives good advice — highly recommended.

JERSEY CITY LOCATION: I have had the most infuriating experience with this office. I haven’t even made in to PT.
Firstly, their phone receptionists (and I’ve spoken to at least 3) are all disorganized and confused. They called me back 3 times over the first few days because they kept failing to get all the information they needed, and then after A WEEK AND A HALF called to confirm my appointment the day before and dropped the bomb that they weren’t in network after all, because of some middle man preauthorization company. Apparently, their insurance people were supposed to call me and didn’t.
So I’ve wasted two weeks trying to get an initial appointment. I am pissed. I would not recommend this office to anyone.

They overbook and WASTE YOUR TIME. Rude receptionist. We’ll see how my injury heals but as far as service, definitely go somewhere else.

JERSEY CITY LOCATION: Office staff and policies will always kill business. I have the time to write this because they’re over an hour late in seeing me, and the office is empty. When I made the appointment, I was told that they are «inner circle» with the hospital I work for– meaning a lower co-​pay. This was a lie. They don’t even validate parking and the garage gets expensive pretty quickly. For the record, I came prepared. All forms were already filled out, insurance and ID cards in hand, along with a CD of my X-​rays.
The secretary was more interested in finding out if I knew her boyfriend who works at the same hospital as I do. I don’t care. I just gave the office $ 50 I wasn’t planning on spending. To hell with your boyfriend.

I was first seen by a fellow, and his exam was thorough. Dr. Phipps came in and did an additional physical exam, causing more pain. I felt that my concerns were disregarded. Here’s where I have the biggest issue– when he offered medication for pain relief, I had asked if it would interact with anything that I was taking or aggravate my stomach condition. He quickly said no. I did check the interactions and it could have been lethal for me.
Also, he ordered an MRI. He was telling me that he will let me know when I can schedule one, even after I told him that I’m PPO and don’t need a referral. Made Phipps aware that I could also have it done at work. He sarcastically asked if they would do it because I’m an employee or because my insurance is PPO. I asked what it mattered to him. I guess because they couldn’t do it and bill me an extraordinary amount.
All this being said, avoid this doctor. I hear that there are other doctors in that practice that are good, but I’m so annoyed by the MD, secretary and unnecessary wait time that I will never go back or recommend this place to anyone.
I wish that fellow much luck. He can learn what not to do by being teamed up with Phipps.

Went there for a painful hand.
First meeting at 11am, I finally get to see the doctor at 11.45. Stays with me for literally 2mn to say: «I don’t know what you have, you need to take an MRI» .OK. They make me pay 450 $ for 2 mn (I have a European insurance so I need to pay upfront)
I go get an MRI, the same Gotham doctor sees me (with another 30mn late) to tell me that my tendons are all wrong and that I need to see a hand surgeon. OK. Another 450 $ for about 9 mn.
I book my appointment with my hand surgeon in Paramus. I call Gotham to make sure they send all my info a week before. I get to Paramus, of course my info was not sent. We call them from the surgeon office to ask again. They were super rude on the phone, almost hanging up on us. We wait 30mn, nothing, so we call them again…“Sorry, it was not sent, we will do it right now”…
Anyway, all of that to hear from my surgeon that their diagnosis was totally off (and that my tendons are perfect. My surgeon saw what I have right away.
for me Gotham Orthopedic was: Waste of time, waste of money and a lot of frustration. I will never go back to their office. Instead of spending their money in weird Batman decoration for their office, they should focus more on customer service.
Terrible experience.

They have a tendency to run late and are super busy especially at the Jersey City office, but in my mind that is expected. I think they make up for it too by being very apologetic and accommodating if you have extenuating circumstances. They also realize that a lot of their patients have injuries or are post surgery so they may be in pain or uncomfortable. They do what they can to make you as comfortable as possible while you wait.
We have dealt with nothing but friendly, caring staff while dealing with my wife’s ACL/​Medial Meniscus tear. The doctors are all very thorough and knowledgeable. They take the time to get to know you as a patient and person, and they structure their care around your personal goals and needs.
The caring stretches through all of their staff. They do a great job of keeping you well informed of appointment schedules, care schedules, and insurance coverage. They handled 100% of the insurance approval processes for all of my wife’s care and surgical procedures. It has really made this whole process a lot easier for us to handle.
I am happy to wait for this type of service and care any day of the week.

Im sorry since Betsy left the office isnt the same, the moral isnt there nor any capable staff members! A word of advise a rotating staff is NEVER a stable office!!!
