Came here with some friends a couple of weeks ago on a Sunday as it was snowing. I’ve been before(over a year ago) and although it’s a small place, we just wanted to get out the house and have some drinks. I wasn’t even expecting people to be there, given the day and weather conditions. So surely I would never have expected a $ 5 cover. Told the doorman we’d go elsewhere, which prompted him to give half of us free admission. I laughed and told him we’d just go down the street to the Grande Saloon, which is 4 times the size of this tiny bar, has karaōke, and doesn’t charge a cover on a day any business would be thankful for patrons!!! Never gonna bother coming here ever again.

If this was two years ago, I would have given Pericos 5 stars. Not so much today… A lot of excellent dishes have been removed from the menu and the ones that are left have jumped in price. It seems they are focusing more on their night-time club crowd and turned the menu into a bar menu. Last two times I was there I ordered the avocado salad(used to be phenomenal), only to find out they were out of avocado. How in the blue hell does a Mexican restaurant run out of avocado?! Twice?! Anyway, my friend, who was with me, lives across the street and she ran and got avocados from her house for them to use. They didn’t even discount our meals after we provided the food for them to use!!! Whenever I am there now it’s nothing but LOUD music and loud drunks. The food has gone to shit and so has most of the staff. Don’t ever see myself going there again. Another good place gone bad.

I came to Perico’s before Christmas and am only now getting around to reviewing it. I always enjoy getting out of the city for a little bit and we came there with a great group of people, but this joint, in my opinion, was no bueno. THEGOOD: The mango margaritas were stellar. Not only potent but delicious. For them alone, it would be worth coming to Perico’s. We also ordered some sangria which was delightful. THEOK: I had a caprese salad for dinner which wasn’t bad but could have been more flavorful. I wasn’t that hungry though since I had snacked at my company’s holiday party just an hr or so before getting on the train to NJ. The chips and salsa were also pretty decent. THEBAD: The noise level! Halfway through our dinner, a DJ came in and played Latin music at a volume that was inappropriate for such a small space. One of our friends got up to complain but it was an exercise in futility. We left shortly after. In conclusion, I doubt I’d come back here but Perico’s does have its strong suits.

Perico’s is a solid pick for dining, but the nightlife scene leaves a bit to be desired. still, it was fun to get out New York for a few hours to hang with our Jersey crew. just to get this out there — the staff told us that management was looking to make this place more of a restaurant than a bar/club. more on that later. it wasn’t the best Spanish food, but I was satisfied. the platter I had was way too much for even me to finish! grilled sausage, spicy ground beef, chicarron, two types of plantains, a fried egg, rice, and beans. holy food coma, Batman. the meat portions were excellent, the plantains were great, the fried egg was good, and the rice and beans were okay. it was about 16 bucks and definitely could feed 2 people. pitchers of sangria and margaritas were a bit costly, but the margarita was extremely potent. so I guess we got our $ 28/pitcher worth with the margarita(the mango flavor… it was awesome). the sangria tasted alright. on my confusion with the atmosphere here… at 10PM, a DJ came on, but the place was a bit too small for the music to be so loud. some older patrons near the DJ table and the bar got disgruntled and left. we asked the DJ to turn it down a bit, he did, but it was still loud for such a small area and we ended up paying soon after. overall? I had fun, the service was very friendly and helpful, and their daily specials(like $ 10 for a pitcher and half-dozen wings) make this seem like a decent choice to hang out in. it’s also nice to have a change from the usual repetitive bar food with a primarily Latin-American menu(and a few Italian dishes, and some Asian ones too). I think they just need to decide if it’s gonna be a more laid-back restaurant/bar/grill or a more active dance-y place… especially when the dining tables are covering up the former dance floor. if they make a definite decision either way, I think good things are on the way for Perico’s.

The food was decent and the atmosphere was nice.(Our chicken quesadillas were chopped chicken meat, not fresh chicken, though) The Margarita pitchers were a little pricey, at $ 28 each, but they were good. Our night started off as a nice place to get together with a group of friends. However once 10pm rolled around, a DJ set up his equipment and blasted the music so loud we had to leave. I guess they’re trying to make this place a night club but don’t realize it’s a restaurant.

Over the years this place has more of a club crowd. So they have removed all the tables now and acting even more as a club. They still have the same menu which you can eat at the bar. The food is not that great anymore since they using less fresh food. Glad to see a local business surviving but sad to see the food business reduced.

It’s a cute lil place… i like their margaritas… food is so so… crowd is not too refined late weekends… somewhat ghetto crowd at times… Cinco de mayo was a disaster… they let way too many people in and it was so tight the fire department had to intervene and they had to kick people our and turn others away… u could not walk let alone breathe… had to leave due to closterphobic feeling

Good Margaritas. That’s about it. Three people, three entrees and no fans. Pulled pork was extremely salty, combo fajita was bland and had some strange sauce on it(???) and some other combo(bad enough not to remember).

I had a great lunch at Pericos today. Warm tortilla chips, friendly service, delicious food. Doesn’t get much better. My chimichanga was crisp and super flavorful. I can’t tell you how hard it is for me to find a properly cooked chimichanga. This one was justg perfect. Served like two little Mexican egg rolls. So good. Can’t wait to go again.
