Food was quick and the pad thai was awesome! Can’t wait to go back!

Ambiance is nice but couldn’t find the taste I was looking for. Rolls looked like machine made and not crisp enough. I had the duck curry, duck meat tasted like boiled with lumpy fat. Probably will not go back. 3 stars as few other on the table were OK with the food and the place.

SakoonThai aka delicious! I had just ordered delivery here for lunch a little bit ago and was pleasantly surprised. Even after reading all the good reviews, I was still wasn’t going to set the bar high — but I can say I am very glad I ordered here because now I definitely have a go-to Thai place! First off, delivery was super fast which is always good and the food came in good condition. I ordered Kanom Jeeb, Sticky Rice with Mango, Thai Tea, and the Sakoonthai Duck. The only word(s) that come to my mind when thinking about each thing that I ordered are delicious and amazing. The Thai tea is probably the best I’ve had, the sticky rice with mango was sweet, but not too sweet and just the perfect ending to the meal, the kanom jeeb was very tasty especially with the sauce provided, and the crispy duck that I ordered was out of this world good… perfectly crispy and a lot of flavor, a little spicy but unbearable. Theres no doubt that I will definitely order again or even go dine-in; was too good!

This Thai restaurant is a destination the locals go to and especially for me. It is a hidden gem. The owners and their staffs are super friendly and very accommodating. The decors are modern and finesse with Thai culture touches, clean and beautiful. The foods are truly authentic to Thai tradition cooking, fresh and very flavorful. My family and friends have eaten many dishes so far we loved everyone of them and wanting more in future trips. Outing for me, I like to sample different appetizer, entrée, desert or drink. If you are in the areas, swing by for lunch or dinner, no reservation, explore great Thai cooking and ambience. I know will certainly stop by again

My family has catered from this restaurant before it was Sakoonthai. Used to be located around Costco! We wondered where they went & This new location is perfect as most of you are saying, the service is excellent. It’s a perfect spot for dates or catching up with a buddy, it’s a small restaurant, but the food speaks louder. If you like Pad Thai, try the appetizer Tom yum soup! It compliments and gets your stomach ready!

Looking for a neighborhood restaurant on a wet and cold Saturday night and we stumbled onto this Thai restaurant. The interiors were eerily familiar to another Thai restaurant we had been in. We just opted for the basic curry and salad and it was not bad. Service was prompt and friendly. A nice addition to the strip mall in the neighborhood.

Great thai. My husband and I love Thai and tried this place out for his birthday. The ambiance is great. Everything tastes great and good service.

It’s so cute! The décor is clean and cozy, and the restaurant itself is tiny. I ate lunch here today for the first time and I’ll be back. The food was good, nothing to complain about, and it was as I expected it would be– I had the drunken noodle lunch special with tom yum soup and a spring roll. Customer service was great and they were super attentive about filling my water glass.

We came in here after driving by. Let me say, so glad we did! The ambience is so chill and cozy. The menu was really affordable and unique. The Thai Iced Tea was the BEST I have ever had. The food was just incredible. Definitely will be coming back!!!

Such a cozy and homey Thai restaurant! The decorations and furniture make it feel like you’re eating at home or at a friend’s house. On top of the beautiful décor, the food is delicious and comes in large portions. The papaya salad is the perfect amount of spicy(most restaurants make it too bland without any special requests) and much larger than any other Thai restaurant in the area. My main dish, chicken ka pow cooked perfectly with tender chicken pieces and fresh vegetables. Even the Thai ice tea comes in the cutest little pitcher/cup! I wish I knew were they bought the pitcher cups from because now I want a set at home. You can’t help but smile when you’re at this restaurant :)

After multiple failed fro-yo places in this location, this is FINALLY a delicious(and much needed) option to eat thai food in the Centreville area. I have to say, the décor/mood reminds me a lot of Sisters Thai(currently my favorite thai eatery in the NoVa area) but that’s cool, not complaining! I like the style! Who doesn’t love a cozy, trendy place to eat? And even more not complaining: this place is fantastic. It’s small, and we were lucky to get one of the last tables, even on a Tuesday night. Service was great, water was filled at the right pace, menu options were great, and the food was surprisingly really delicious. We just didn’t know what to expect. We both liked Sakoontra alright, but we were really impressed with how flavorful our food was. My husband’s go-to taste test dish is Panang Curry w/beef, and his didn’t disappoint. Great flavor and the right amount of spicy kick. My go-to is usually Lad/Rad Na w/beef, but I decided to go with something different. I tried out their Pad Woon Sen w/seafood, and it was super tasty. I wanted to eat it all in one sitting, but decided to save half of it for leftovers so I could savor the taste of it for lunch the next day. We’re really happy this is not too far from home, as it’s now our go-to thai place. I just wish they delivered to the other side of Centreville!(hint, hint, SakoonThai…)

I was an occasional Sakoontra customer for years and felt that the quality of the food had declined in the year or two before it closed. Based on the Unilocal reviews for Sakoon Thai, my husband and I decided to give it a try. We were pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. The chicken satay was just about perfect, with tender, juicy, flavorful chicken and wonderfully thick peanut sauce. We both had pad thai for dinner(his was chicken, mine was seafood). Absolutely delicious. Usually when I have seafood pad thai, the seafood is so overcooked that it’s rubbery. This was cooked perfectly. The portions were fairly large and we both took half our dinners home. The only reason I didn’t give them five stars is the setting. The menus were just as huge and unwieldy as others had mentioned in their reviews. There was no one sitting next to us, so we weren’t crowded, but we could definitely understand why other reviewers have commented on it. And finally, one observation of our own – the seats are terrible! I was in a chair that was very mushy… I sank way down in it when I sat, so that my husband on the bench across from me was much higher than I was. And the chair leans way back, making it just about impossible to eat while sitting back in the chair. So I spent most of the meal leaning way forward, which was not comfortable at all. I will definitely be returning to Sakoon Thai in the near future, but probably for takeout. Can’t wait to see how their drunken noodles are!

SakoonThai is my go to take out whenever I am too lazy too cook. It has become one of my favorite Thai places. I’ve never been to their previous building(Sakoontra) but now since they are in Centreville, I order in just about every week or so. Food: I am absolutely in love with their flavoring. It’s not too salty and it has just the right amount of spices. My go to are always the Kanom Jeeb(mini shu Mai like dumplings and always fresh, pad see eiw, and always mango and sticky rice. Those always seem to be on point! Other favorites are the massaman(this curry is with coconut milk and it absolutely tasty and flavorful) and curry puffs. I have tried other dishes such as their pad Thai, claims, noodle dishes etc. — those are decent. I am going to try more of their dishes later in the future. Service: Out of all the times I have ordered they seem to be good with their delivery. It’s always Between 30 – 40 mins or so which is really amazing! I’ve only eaten in about once or twice but the décor reminds me of sister thai(which is also good). The staff is friendly and will take care of you.

Just plain stupid. People dine to have a good time to share with friends/family. My experience was terrible! Tom kha Soup was too sweet. I simply Asked for some hot water to make it less sweet. Server boy argued that he has had this soup his whole life, then didn’t bother to bring out the hot water requested or change the soup bowl. 80% of small restaurants don’t survive, unfortunately this will fall in the same fate. Service, service, service! Needs lots of improvements. Too bad because I came to Sakoontra many times b4. Will never come back here again.

Very cute and well-decorated restaurant! It actually reminded me of Sister’s Thai with its pretty décor. Unfortunately, I think the atmosphere is the best part about the dining experience. Everything is okay, and you’ll probably be satisfied with your experience, but the food isn’t great. The Shrimp Pad Thai is decent and so is the Eggplant Lover. The Eggplant Lover tasted really good and crispy at first, but it quickly got soggy and I lost my appetite half way through. The Thai tea, served in these adorable glass mini-pitchers, is a little sweet as well. But the worst part about the experience was probably how cramped everything felt. The tables are small, the menus are huge, and the little decorations just got in the way. Although the food is mediocre, it might be worth a try if you’re in the area!

When I heard Sakoontra(the original place) was shutting down in Fairfax, I didn’t know if I could find a Thai place I’d like as much as this place. Yeah I went around to try other thai places but I still missed Sakoontra. I heard Sakoonthai was opening up in Centreville and that it was the same owners as Sakoontra and I couldn’t have been more excited to try. The new spot is in the Union Mill shopping center where Outback is. It’s a very cute and cozy restaurant with about 10 tables inside and some seating outside. I called ahead to reserve a table on a Saturday night, walked in and saw my name on a cute photo frame on the table. They have comfy chairs with pillows, a bookcase with books, decorations and even some board games. I love the décor and the whole ambiance was relaxing. Service from the beginning was slow and not very friendly. We ordered wings and 4 entrees– pad thai, drunken noodles, duck and seafood combination. Our wings took about 20 minutes to come out, as I noticed her from the next table peeking over and realized we didn’t have our wings because she probably forgot to put in the order. I know it doesn’t take that long for wings to come out and the fact that it wasn’t busy at all. After our wings came out, she never checked on us again. My table had to flag her down for water, which is something that I shouldn’t have to flag her down for. The food itself was great. Drunken noodles were spicy but full of flavor and alot of chicken. A must try. The duck was also spicy but it was perfectly crispy and not too heavy on the fried part. Pad thai is still as good as it was at Sakoontra. Huge portions and great flavor for all of them. However, service was no where close to where it should have been. She was disengaged with our table and not interested at all the whole time. She helped out other tables and went back to check on how everything was but our table, she never asked us how we were doing once. The only time she came by was when she saw we were done and quickly cleaned the table. The part that made me upset was at the end when we asked what kind of desserts she had. She told us, «right now we only have sticky mango rice». We had our eyes on the fried bananas and sadly declined the sticky rice. But wait… the table next to us somehow got fried bananas as they were surprised about getting the dessert(I’m guessing the owners knew them and gave it to them for free). Hmm. that doesn’t seem right if our waitress said they ONLY had 1 dessert. She quickly left after we said no and got us the check. In the end, I was annoyed. I hope it was just a bad day for the waitress, though it seemed a good day for her from seeing how she interacted with other people. Guess she just didn’t like us for some reason? I want to give it another try but not sure if second time around will be different.

Well, let me preface that it is more on the lower stars end because of service not because of the food. I used to love Sakoontra in Fairfax. The décor is modern and really cute. You can call ahead to make a reservation and they actually leave a nameplate on the table for you which is nice. Started the meal off with wings. Which took way longer than it should’ve. When we asked the server about where the wings were, she just kind of looked at me and walked away. I’m pretty sure they forgot to put it in. Our food came a little later and it was really good. I got the sakoonthai duck and it was spicy but so good. It was crispy but so flavorful. Nobody came by the table to check on us after we got the food. Now to the part that really makes this 3 stars for me. The waiter seemed like she didn’t even want to serve us at all. Then I asked her what was for dessert and she said they didn’t have anything available at that moment except sticky mango rice. We declined since that wasn’t what we wanted from the menu. But then right after she walked away, they brought out fried plantains to the table next to us as a surprise. The couple was astounded since they hadn’t ordered desserts. Uh okay? The server didn’t even say thank you because I’m sure she knows we saw them give the fried plantains. She gave us the check and walked away fast. The food is enjoyable but the service is bad. Retrain them in how to give good service and I’ll be back. Until then, it’ll be carry out only.

I have been so excited to try this place and was pretty impressed upon walking in for the first time for dinner after work on a Monday. It was pretty packed and there were people sitting outside as well. The décor is very chic and reminds me of a trendy Thai restaurant in Dallas I used to go to when I lived there. So this was very different to me to walk into a shopping center and getting hit with some trendy décor. Imagine white chairs, teal walls, and West Elm all together in one place. I noticed a small bar area with like 4 chairs so it might not be the spot for some happy hour drinks although it looks like they’re getting an ABC license. However, there is a picnic bench type table that could accompany a group of 6. Ok so on to the food. We started off with the Kanom Jeeb for the appetizer and it was really fresh and tasty. I tend to judge places by their pad thai and curry but since it was a little hot outside, I ordered the shrimp pad thai. I was very impressed with the size and presentation. The noodles were not cooked like most places I’ve been to that comes out doused in the tamarind sauce. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and they even added fried shallots to the dish — something I’ve never experienced before and I am glad I did! The flavors were very balanced but really flavorful at the same time. My fiancé got the Sakoonthai duck and it came out with a bowl of white rice. I’m usually not a fan of duck but it was really good. They fried it perfectly crispy and it tasted amazing. The great thing is that there were onions, peppers and carrots tossed in the red pepper and basil sauce so you didn’t get tired of just eating the duck — and there was a lot of it. I love how they top it with crispy basil as well. I ended up picking at his dish. We will definitely be coming back and trying out their other dishes!

Great Thai food. The service is what you would expect. It’s in the middle of a shopping center. O The food is pretty good, but I don’t think I’ve ever had bad Thai food. The Pad Thai, the red Curry and spring rolls were great. I would recommend if in the area.

Best Thai food I’ve had in a long time! My boyfrIend and I drove all the way from Arlington for their awesome fried eggplant(eggplant lovers on the menu). I hadn’t had it before but it was everything it was hyped for and more! The spicy basil was great too but my favorite of the night was the Thai iced tea. Hands down the best Thai iced tea I’ve ever had! None of that cloying sweetness and a great after taste of chai :) Fantastic prices for an awesome meal, highly recommended! We’re definitely going back! if for nothing else than for hOw nice the owner was(thanks for the freebies Ping!)
