Bob Steele Chevrolet

While I was out of town, my wife took our 2011 Chevrolet Suburban LTZ to Bob Steele for routing maintenance. They recommended a front end alignment and four tire rotate and balance in addition to the routine maintenance items. Even a cursory glance should have told the technician that the tires were brand new (purchased less than a month earlier) and did not require rotation and/​or balance. The only thing it truly required to as an oil change. Still, it cost us $ 400.
When I got home, and drove the truck, it was pulling hard to the right. Additionally, the steering wheel was clocked about 5 degrees to the left. There was a terrible grinding noise coming from the left front tire. We took it back to Bob Steele where it was noted that the the alignment was out and the steering wheel needed to be centered. Also, left front hub and bearings needed to be replaced (how was this missed in the previous inspection including front end alignment?). Steele agreed to pay for the labor, but I was still stuck with a $ 600 bill.
Last night, I noticed some oil drops where the truck sits in out garage. I placed a cardboard sheet over the spots and parked the truck there overnight. Sure enough, when I moved the truck today, there were several fresh new oil drops on the cardboard sheet. This happened to me before. The cause was the other Chevy dealer tech left the oil filter loose and it dripped oil. I tightened the filter, and the drips stopped. This is why I chose to take it to Steele for this maintenance.
Is it possible that two separate techs from two different dealerships left the oil filter loose and thereby causing oil to leak? Impossible… Right?

The service writer wrote the order. When the car was finished & brought to the delivery area I waited another 10 – 15 minutes for Ron to come and tell me it was completed. He never came so I went to his desk to get my keys & paperwork. If it was not for the free oil change I would not come back for service, which I might not anyways. My experence since I bought the car from John has not been very good.

I have been dealing with Bob Steele for years and I couldn’t ask for better customer service and quality of work. Ron in the Service Department is the best!

I had high hopes for Bob Steele Chevy, but they managed to perpetuate the stereo-​type of a used car salesperson. They have internet prices which are «no haggle». We were looking at a truck on their website and later saw the same truck posted on Craigslist for $ 900 cheaper. Apparently they have 2 employees that update the internet sales website. We called in the morning to say we would drive over that night to look at the truck, as we live 60 miles away. From the time we called to the time we arrived at the dealership, the cheaper Craigslist ad was removed and then re-​posted for $ 900 more, which then matched the price on the dealership website. The initial salesperson we were dealing with stated we would work with the cheaper Craigslist price. When we actually sat down to talk about financing, he came back with the fact that the Craigslist price was also the higher price. I had the cheaper Craigslist ad in an e-​mail. When I went to click on it, it then stated that the ad had been deleted by the author. By doing a Google search, they posted the very same vehicle on 5/​17, ⁵⁄₂₄ and ⁵⁄₂₉ for the price of 34K. The day someone expresses an interest in the vehicle, the Craigslist ads are all deleted and it is re-​posted for $ 34,900 and our salesperson disavows any knowledge of what the internet sales dept. did.
If they had come to the table and said they would be happy to sell the vehicle for 34K, we could have done a deal. On principal, we are not going to deal with «bait and switch» tactics. After we expressed our disappointment, the salesman said, is that all it will take, $ 900, we can work on that. Unfortunately the trade-​in quote was also insultingly low. As we’re getting ready to leave, he even says, with the trade in, is it a problem of a few thousand dollars? That’s correct. We’re not idiots. We were offered 4K for a vehicle worth at last 7K as trade in. A dealership selling it used would get at least 10K. We came to the table stating we already had financing, they obviously did not want to sell us this truck. We did not drive 2 hrs. round trip to waste everyone’s time.
Which brings us to the other sketchy practice we discovered. This truck had been owned by the dealership for greater than 1 yr. The Carfax stated the vehicle had 38K miles on it when purchased at auction and only had 1 owner. A year later it has 45K. When asked about the discrepancy, we were told the managers were using it as a «demo» vehicle, meaning they drove it home. Turns out the GM drove it for 6 months, which is where the majority of those 7000 miles came from. So it is no longer a 1 owner vehicle and no oil changes have been reported on the Carfax in the past year. The managers are welcome to continue driving it around as a demo vehicle.
A different salesperson (Jimmy) was with us for the test drive and he was perfectly nice and polite.
We’ll give our hard-​earned money to a dealership with more integrity.

If you buy a car from these people they will call you at least once a month until you tell them to stop
