Roy & RT’s Kitchen

For a booth moving around farmer markets in the College Park area, you cannot get anything better than this. We ate all the take-​aways just in our car in the parking lot, and they turned out to be the best food we had during the day. Tasty yellow rice, tender chicken and flavorful eggplants, and they are all hot and nice.

My wife and I along with a close friend came by yesterday from Arlington just to sample their food. I read about them on the latest edibledc magazine. My mom was born in Indonesia and since my parents live overseas I don’t get to eat indonesian food often so I was so thrilled when I heard about Roy and his wife’s business. I had to come check it out sooner rather than later. They were such a sweet and gracious couple when I met them. They even remembered me from getting in touch with them on facebook. They even offered us some indonesian chai to try on the house. Nice touch. We had the spring roll. Chicken sate combo with noodles and another roll with tofu among other things and we left with big smiles and full tummys. Everything was delectable and full of flavor. You can tell everything was cooked with care and love. I’m a chef. I can tell They even sell fresh vegetables from their garden. Do yourself a favor and eat here. You won’t regret it!

Roy and RT’s sells awesome homemade Indonesian food at three local farmers markets — Greenbelt, Hollywood, and Riverdale. The menu rotates, and features appetizers, entrees, desserts, and refreshing iced tea. My favorites have been the Red Chicken (Ayam Merah), Javanese Chicken Curry (Ayam Kare), and Yellow Herb Rice (Nasi Kuning). Everything is simple but also impressively flavorful. The rice is probably the unsung hero of their menu — moist and loaded with creamy, herbaceous flavor, delicious alone or under one of their other dishes. You can see all of the whole spices in their serving trays as they dish things out.
The coolest thing about Roy and RT’s is that many of their ingredients come from their own garden! This means that everything is fresh and seasonal, and they even sell their surplus fruits and veggies at their stand. These range from multicolor cherry tomatoes to wrinkly bitter melons. We look forward to eating lunch at their stand every weekend. I’m always tempted to grab some extra food to go. If nothing else, grab a glass of fresh tea — every flavor we’ve tried is cooling and sweet when you’re walking around in the summer sun.
