Sixt rent a car

This was our 2^nd experience with renting with Sixt. The first time was in Germany. After reading the reviews I expected the worse. We booked everything online & pre paid so the entire check in process was quick and painless. I strongly advise looking online for any specials as we were able to rent a BMW 3 series for $ 32 a day. This was cheaper than their smallest compact! Anyway you check in at their booth and then they send you downstairs to the cars where they will in turn give you the keys and send you on your merry way. NOTE: be sure to check over your car. We didn’t have a walk around like other car rental companies, so we did one ourselves. There were scratches, dings and stains on the mat (the car was clean though) and wanted to be sure I wasn’t held responsible for it. I wrote down everything we saw and made my way back to the lady who gave us the key. She basically initialed everything we saw and made us comfortable that we wouldn’t be held responsible. And off we went. The car drove great and we had no issues! Upon returning the car, everything moved very quickly! Will definitely rent from sixt again. The staff were all very friendly and courteous! Only reason for the 4 stars was the state of the mats inside the car. They were heavily stained but not actually dirty. I just feel that they could replace them, that’s all.

I would give it zero for service if possible. Sixt obviously cares nothing for their customers using an outdated system and limited front counter support. Thank you for taking an extra hour out of my day.

— so now 25 mins later I’m waiting in the garage for a car. Nice warm mid morning in ATL.

We booked our rental at Sixt in Atlanta before we read the Unilocal reviews. After reading all the bad reviews and horror stories we were very concerned, but our experience could not have been any better. The check out process was quick and the attendants were friendly and polite. The car was exactly what we reserved, freshly cleaned and in great shape. The return process took all of 2 mins. All in all we are very satisfied customers.

Should have read the reviews before renting from this location. I had a meeting to go to right after my arrival, and they didn’t have the car ready (had wait for another 25min or so). Poor customer service. Not renting from Sixt at this location. I rented a car from Sixt at Miami airport couple weeks ago. They didn’t have the car ready there either, but at least the people were nicer.

OK, so after Unilocal and Twitter complaint they reached me and explained the situation where too many reservations came in in ATL for my type of rental and the literally had to wait for turn ins, clean them and put them back to rental status. At least an explanation. Logistical problem but at least an explanation. Waiting an hour for a car at the end of long flight is no fun. The counter people could have made this better with a good explanation and customer service.

The car I reserved was not available and they told me I’d be getting a lower class car for a «discount». The funny thing was that they could not actually give me a quote of what my car substitute would cost per day. This seemed really odd.
45 minutes later I’m standing in the deck with my kids and they staff can’t find my car. The porters are constantly chatting with random people and lose focus about every 5 – 10 seconds. In short, this was the longest, least curious and disappointing car rental experience I’ve ever had.
The icing on the cake was they the car they gave me had a large dent with primer showing. Is this a luxury rental car company or Rent-​A-​Wreck?

DON’T RENT AT SIXT IN ATLANTA, GA
I’ve had some horrible experiences in my travel days but nothing like what happened last Thursday, May 12^th.
Arrived at the Sixt counter only to find that you had to go to the garage to get a rental. I had a confirmed paid in advance reservation for a Mercedes, only to find out that while they had Mercedes as advertised, I was offered a Hyundai Genesis instead and told that the vehicles were in the same class.
What a bunch of BS, I don’t know anyone who would possibly consider a Hyundai in the same class. After bitching I was allowed to pay $ 25 per more for the car that I was supposed to have. A total of over $ 150 plus tax for 5 days!
I feel certain that the Atlanta location engages in bait and switch no matter what the corporate program is. In addition I’ve never been treated as shabbily by any customer service rep in my life.
Called the corporate office this morning to complain (just got back last night) and was told that they were not allowed to give name, phone, or information about the local management. I requested a return call from the Atlanta manager and was promised that the manager would call… which of course did not happen!
I’m call AMX and disputing the charges and wait to see what happens next.
DON’T RENT AT SIXT IN ATLANTA

I would not recommend renting this car and the staff has not improved the situation. We reserved a big SUV, but when we got there they said they no longer has any the size we requested. However, we could upgrade for $ 100 each day. We asked for the manager. Robert Alcena, the manager, told us that they located a vehicle. We waited well into an hour and watched as others got their cars. It felt like they were playing a game with us because we had to push for them to get us the car. Every time we came up to the counter, they would say it was getting cleaned or it is at the over flow lot or there are no drivers. Well, someone is driving cars for the other customers. There is a problem with the customer service communication leading to one excuse after another. A big disconnect lead to me feeling like I was trying to be scammed, lied to, and punished by wasting an hour and half of my time. Don’t waste your time here or with this rental company.

Business travelers, stay with the usual Hertz or Avis. I had a previously good experience with this Sixt location a year ago, but now they have apparently grown too fast. They didn’t have any cars available despite a booked reservation, and I wasted 14 minutes waiting in line only to be told they were out of cars. But I should have known better as a frequent business traveler and don’t blame Sixt for my stupidity and only blame myself for patiently waiting in their line. I walked over to Avis, slapped down my Avis First card and had a car within 4 minutes without a reservation. I gave Sixt a try and still rent from Sixt in Europe but I can’t afford to waste my time with their USA locations any further. And that’s a damn shame.

I would give this place no stars if I could. I stood at the car pick up for about a 1 hour and 30 minutes waiting to get my car. When I first arrived, it allegedly had to be driven from the overflow lot. I checked in 20 minutes later, and I was told the same thing. Eventually, the girl behind the desk started looking into what was going on. Turns out the car had been taken off my reservation. She eventually booked me a different car. She also told me that she would put a note on the account so that I would get a discount on return. I am guessing that the new car had recently been returned because it was dirty inside and had only an EIGHTH (yes, ¹⁄₈) A TANK OF GAS. I was so ready to get out of the car lot (hungry) that I didn’t notice the low gas gauge until I was on the highway. Shortly thereafter, I proceeded to put 13, THIRTEEN, gallons of gas into the tank.
When I returned the car to Sixt, I told the person at the counter (not the same girl at pickup) of what had happened, showed her my gas receipt, and she promised that a customer service note would be filed and addressed. Yet despite both girls allegedly putting some notes on my account and the fact that I had to pay for gas on a JUST received rental, customer service at Sixt is unwilling to discount my trip or reimburse me for the thirteen gallons of gas.
I know it’s tempting to go with the most affordable but take into account the gas you might have to pay and the time you waste.
Awful. Stay away

Why didn’t we listen to all you smart reviewers warning us?! After waiting 2 hours for a car, being downgraded, paying extra for Sirius and helping clean the previous customers alcohol bottles and luggage out of the car, we were on our way. What’s that dinging?! LOW OIL! Where’s that Sirius we paid for? No subscription! When I called sixt and waited on hold for 30 minutes, I was told to take the car to jiffy lube and pay for an oil change!!!
Why oh why does Unilocal make you even give 1 star?!

–5, Horrible Horrible Service, Never book with them. I Booked a Luxury car for a weekend. Got confirmation reached front desk, not only that they told me they don’t have the car I booked also they don’t have any car. If they can’t guarantee a rental car then why are they accepting reservation. I don’t understand. They told me they will give me refund which is like telling the customers «we don’t care what you do, we don’t have the car you booked so take your money and go elsewhere». Finally arguing over different options I decided to take the full refund, they telling me I have to call a toll free number in order to get my refund. They can’t issue me a refund at the counter. I called the number now telling me I have to sent an email in order for me to get the refund. Apparently they believe email is more secure than a real person or a phone call.
NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER…

Too bad you can’t pick a pile of crap instead of 1 star!!! If you actually need a car on the day of your booking, look elsewhere!!!
I rented a car 4 days before my arrival and was thrilled with the price for a luxury car. 12 hours before my flight, I checked my email to find a «Canceled Reservation» message. The email simply said Attached is your cancellation confirmation, Best Regards. I had not requested to cancel my reservation, so I instantly called in to find out why I had been canceled. The woman who answered the phone was also confused and eventually learned I was canceled «due to overbooking». I understand it’s Masters week (that’s where I’m headed). But the car type I originally booked still shows available on Orbitz… just at 3 times the price. Sixt did not run out of cars or overbook. They simply realized they weren’t charging enough for the cars they had so they canceled the reservations currently booked. I’m now left scrambling for a car 12 hours before my flight thanks to some very shady business practices by this company. I will NEVER book with them again and suggest you avoid them at all cost as well.

Sixt claims to be the oldest car rental establishment in the world… and lucky you, it feels like it. Flight was a few minutes early, but that was quickly sucked back the wrong way by a mind numbing wait in the ATL rental center. No car available… check that, there was a car available, and we were «lucky» and could pay more money for the privilege of the charged upgrade OR continue to wait in Sixt purgatory.
Look, I’m not trying to brag or simply rag on Sixt. I travel almost every week for work, we use a Corp account with Avis… when I land, there’s an email in my inbox saying what spot the car is in. No stop at the desk for the scare tactic insurance & fuel up-​sell. Get in your car and go like you own it and are just visiting a parking garage.
You could claim that it was a busy week, etc… but no other companies had lines while Sixt had a gaggle of unfortunate souls hanging around the counter. The free lounge is worse than a coat closet… hot and empty.
Do yourself a favor… rent from somewhere else

Picking up the car was easy and service person was very friendly. Car I was given had 1,900 miles on it, smelled new and was very clean.
I used the express service. I still had to go to rental car counter so I am uncertain what benefit is other they already have some information. The bar coding machine was not reading my 2d barcode so I checked in with my name.
The price was about 60% of Avis so this is why I tried Sixt.

If you are traveling out of state DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They charge you 50 cents per mile if you do. Terrible customer service at ATL airport. Terrible customer service over the phone.

We reserved a Mercedes Benz in advance. When we arrived at the ATL airport there were absolutely no cars available ! Groups of people waiting for a long time for cars they had reserved in advance. The promise was that they were being driven over from lot or washed … But this never happened. So disappointed. I gave it one star because I felt bad for the nice people behind the counter who had to keep giving excuses with a Smile on their face. Terrible experience. We went to National rent a car just a few doors down and got a nice Cadillac there.

Update: I had to bump it down to one star because in addition to the mileage limits and poor selection, they charged me for bringing the car back late which wasn’t true. I disputed it through my credit card company. Now they banned me from renting there and the charge keeps going up because I didn’t pay it. This company is the WORST!

This is a horrible experience on Christmas Day they have no cars. People have been waiting upward of two hours with reservations. They continue to have a sign out saying cars available and still taking reservations. They said they are bringing cars over from another lot, but it will still be an hour. Why would you not already have those cars here if there are reservations for them?!?

I took some time away to properly assess the second situation I found myself in with Sixt. I do have to say that Sixt Customer Service was great all the way around addressing my concerns (noted in my previous post). Every one stepped up to try and make my next rental a far better experience, and I really did appreciate all of the help. If everything went according to plan then I would definitely raise my star rating to 5. Unfortunately that didn’t happen.
I picked up my rental with no problems this time and Natalie H. made sure that they had the car I requested ready. I had to travel to Birmingham for a wedding. Not far into my trip though I saw the tire gauge light come on. I check everything and nothing looked flat, so I went on my way. Now Birmingham is not a short trip but its also not that far in comparison to the long road trips I used to take but the tire didn’t look bad and I thought I would have AAA come and change the tire once I get to my hotel. Once I changed I called AAA and since the wedding was walking distance I left it where it was. AAA came and told me that he wasn’t sure why the gauge was showing low but that he couldn’t change it due to a lack of spare tire. Yep, Mercedes doesn’t seem to pack in spare tires anymore.
I called Sixt customer care and let them know my situation. While VERY sympathetic and genuinely helpful they gave me three options; 1. They would call Mercedes to come pick up the car and figure out what was wrong (Saturday afternoon in Birmingham, No way Mercedes has a Service center open so I would have to wait until Monday, Monday!!) 2. Sixt would tow me out a trade from the Atlanta office but I would have to pay towing mileage (Really!) 3. Go to a service center and buy a new tire ($ 345). Let’s just say this was one of the worst weddings I have ever been too.
Disclaimer; I did pay for the LDW insurance at 24.99/day so I thought I was covered up to a certain dollar value. Now that I have checked the website it looks like I should have either gotten the STC (Super top Cover?) LDW or possibly added on Tire and Glass Coverage. I honestly still don’t know.
Not being able to comfortably accommodate any of those options I was without a car that entire Saturday night and had to tow it back to Atlanta with the help of AAA premium. Now since I did get it back to Atlanta with everything in tact, there was no issues, but it still wasn’t the best experience. I won’t give them a 1 star like I did before because EVERYONE I spoke with was trying to be as helpful as possible from my initial reservation all they way up until I delivered the car back. But being stranded with some of the worst options, I can’t in good faith bump them any higher than a 3.
