Texas A&M University

My sister graduated this school and she loves this school. The professor are great and taught my sister so much. This is the only school in Texas that offers a veterinary program. She wants to go to vet school. She didn’t get in vet school here because their are too many people who already applied. My sister has been in school for six years and had a 4.0 almost every semester. Their was only one semester she didn’t get a 4.0. She was so close to a 4.0. My sister is really smart in every subject and she would love to attend vet school here. She already spent two year here at a&m and she wants to spend four more years here.

Just completed a tour of the school facilities and the volleyball sports program. The tour was very insightful and my daughter (and I) absolutely LOVE the school. The campus is clean, convenient, and the people are hospitable and friendly. I wish I could give the school more starts… I certainly would. From the academic advisors to the sports coaches and the dorms, the school is awesome.
I’m so glad we did a campus visit. The write ups and reviews on this school do not do it justice. An in-​person experience is highly recommended. Beautiful memorials, plenty of restaurants to eat, grand traditions, warm/​friendly/​education/​down-​to-​earth staff/​teachers, and rich meaningful traditions make up this wonderful institution.
Again, I’m so happy to have visited the school in order to see for myself why Texas A&M University is considered one of the best schools in the United States. By the way, my daughter will start her studies at A&M in 2016 and she will be a Student/​Athlete.

OK hard not to love this place and although I want to give it a 5 Star rating I’m a Cornhusker Alumni so I’m going to have to hold on the 5^th Star until I find out if our daughter has been accepted into next years enrollment.
If that happens then I think I can move up my Unilocal from a «Yay! I’m a fan» to a «WooHoo, as good as it gets» without being tarred and feathered by Nebraska friends.
Of course having seen the cost of out of state tuition I may just hold at a 4 Star, lol.
Overall: All kidding aside being a military retiree I find this place to be a fantastic university filled with patriotic students, patriotic staff and dedicated patriotic alumni. I love this school and support the Aggies regardless. Unless of course they’re playing Nebraska or Navy.

Nice university! Got to love the campus. It even has a golf course on the campus. Aggie Nation!

Super school

The aggie community is the best part of Texas a&m…

Cozy campus setting is the first thing that comes to mind. The student body cares about the university and it was just a neat experience to visit the campus in the winter. Met some wonderful people on the way, interacted with some great speakers and more!

Texas A&M itself is an amazing school with great traditions! I love campus, and I love the organizations it offers. Football season is great, Northgate has its moments as well, and most of the professors are pretty helpful when you need them (except physics, imo… yikes).
The ONLY downside I would have to say is that a lot of students show subtle racist undertones (and when they’re under the influence of alcohol, it escalates tenfold)…which is not the school’s doing, but the highly lopsided demographic of the school is probably a factor.

If you peruse the other reviews, and look beneath the rhetoric, they say everything. It is the perfect school for someone who wants the «college experience,» which is what people who have no interest in academics say about college. Spirit! Yeah! Football! Yeah! Notice no one says anything about the quality of the education because so many of the people who go to A&M don’t care. That’s not what it’s about This is not a great environment for the serious student, the intellectually curious, the passionate learner. This is for the hick who thinks «beat the hell outta. .. «is some clever repartee. But for my fellow students, don’t fear, your education is what you put into it. There are good professors here and you can get a great education if you want to. As for that «other education» nonsense, many of us are too busy putting ourselves through school to do all that.

I’m a new graduate student, and I’ve been enjoying my time here. The campus is pretty and there are always people to watch!

I graduated 21 years ago, so it’s kind of silly to review A&M now. I’ll just say that I did in fact graduate, so there’s that, and had a great time doing it. Campus is kind of bland, all the buildings are more or less the same, except on West Campus, where they are too spread out, and where there aren’t enough trees.
That said, they killed my major (journalism), which isn’t helpful. On the flip side, the football team is looking pretty good, SEC or no (I have had season tickets for 15 or so years now), and the new MSC is nice. And there’s the «howdy» thing, which is cool.
Not sure what’s going to happen to Kyle Field, but as much as I love the gameday experience there, I think the new stadium will be great. I do wish we’d just play a season in Houston or Dallas so it would get done faster, though.

Everyone keeps saying «HOWDY» to me really loudly and have the kind of smiles that you typically see on cult member faces.

I learned that exactly 6 years ago in July 2006. Let’s fast forward to today. Right now, my sister is at Freshman Orientation… at another school… in Austin. Wooommmp! Ok, ok, it’s not *that* bad; academically, Austin may be a decent place to get some learnin’ done. However, I’ve yet to find another school that offers «the other education» the way my beloved Texas A&M does. According to the Bush School of Government and Public Service, «‘The other education’ is the learning and insights that come from participation in student activities and student life.»
What does (over 800) student activities and student life consist of? How convenient that you asked (because I was going to tell you anyway)!

Yearly field trip for my 8^th grade students. If you are an fan of the Aggies, stop by the Corps of Cadets museum. It is one of the best in the country.

Whoop!

I got my bachelors from A&M and my masters from UT, and I dearly love both schools, and say what you will about me, but I’m okay with it.
A&M will always be dear to my heart because it was my first. There I learned how to have pride in my school, my education, my peers (yes, my high school failed to teach me that.) I love the A&M traditions, I love the family feel of A&M, I love my memories of A&M (most of them.) And I really do think A&M is underrated. It’s like the smarter blonde sister that you have, but you still laugh at blonde jokes because it makes you feel better about yourself (or your university). Let’s face it, Texas A&M does better in the rankings than A LOT of TX schools, and is not normally that far behind the University of Texas. I cannot explain how wonderful A&M is, because it’s also true, that you only really understand it by being a part of it. So, there’s no need to explain to those of you that haven’t been a part of it.
I love UT for many reasons, as well. I do appreciate UT for its diversity. I do wish A&M was more diverse when I went there (2000) because it was mostly good ‘ol white boys. But I did not experience the racism that some of the Unilocalers have mentioned, and I am Caucasian and was dating, for almost two years while there, an Iranian. We went everywhere together and never experienced any issues. I think there was a lack of diversity (which has changed since I attended) but I think people are exaggerating the racism. My Iranian boyfriend was one who worked on the stack that fell (right after his shift ended, I must add.) And he had plenty of Caucasian friends. I also had a Brazilian roommate, and had good friends from China and India. But still, it could have been more diverse campus wide. Another thing I loved about UT was there was never a shortage of things to do in the city, whereas in CS, there were restaurants and bars, and not much else. This has now changed for the better, too. The city has expanded, (although I’m not too sure how much more it offers now).
I proudly wear both colors, and proudly say I went to both schools, because I think in the end, what matters, is a good education, and not all schools offer that.

This place is pretty good. A nice and clean campus, and very historical. Very cheap for a Tier 1 ranked school. World renowned for their veterinarian grad school and other agricultural programs. They also offer more contemporary and mainstream majors too. Shadowed by the University of Texas (t.u.), Texas A&M is stereotypically known for its wide Caucasian student body. As an Vietnamese-​American (i.e. Asian), I usually don’t encounter much racism at this campus.

I’m a Yankee and an Aggie…
I came here to TAMU many years ago as a graduate student. My undergraduate degree is from the University of Iowa and I mistakenly thought that a Big Ten establishment had all the school spirit that I could ever want.
Boy was I wrong. If someone would have told me that within a few months, I would be standing up during entire football games, going to Midnight Yell Practice, not walking on the grass at the MSC, or experiencing great nausea every time I saw anything with a t.u. logo on it, I would have told them that they were nuts. I also got to partake in an old tradition of lighting my cigar off the old Bonfire.
And after you graduate, this is not your typical alumni experience. As Cory O. mentions, it’s family and maybe a little cult thrown in once and awhile. I’m a proud member of the Association of Former Students and a proud owner of an Aggie Ring. And when I meet another Aggie, we often «whip it out» (and that’s not what you think). And even though I also have a graduate degree from UC Berkeley, there was no question that I would cheer for the Aggies when they played Cal in a Bowl game a few years ago.
And even yesterday at the Albany (California) Target, I saw a guy with a certain orange and white head cover (with horns) on and I just had to comment to him about that t-​sip hat! As someone once told me about Aggie Spirit, if you’re an Aggie you just can’t explain it and if you’re not an Aggie, you’ll never understand.
I too have my issues with Texas A&M. There is some racism, homophobia, and a more «established» political and religious order than I’m used to or sometimes comfortable. Yet, in various combinations, you’ll find that almost everywhere, including the dark blue progressive bubble that we call the San Francisco Bay Area. And even after I have factored all those negatives, I’m still left with a solid education, a fabulous college experience, and a fraternity of former students that I am proud to be a member.
