Our Advanced Reading Concepts Speed Reading Plus™ courses help our students reach their educational and career goals by improving reading speed, comprehension, recall and retention – resulting in higher test scores, better grades and increased productivity. We conduct instructor led public courses for teens through adults in introductory seminars, weekend classes and special summer classes for students entering 7^th grade through graduating high school seniors. We provide on-​site seminars for the military, government, corporations and associations nationally. In addition, we teach individuals from these organizations at our Columbus, OH location in private or our small public classes. All classes include study techniques for mastering details and organizing the information for reports, exams or presentations.

Our courses involve teaching how to physically see more at once and to think in concepts instead of individual words. We combine getting concepts for understanding with strategies for remembering the necessary detail. Our courses focus on reading any kind or information with higher speed with greater comprehension and recall — from screening information instantly for value to a system for mastering highly technical information.

The service we provide is extremely important in this age of information overload – where keeping up is difficult – and being knowledgeable is the key to making well informed decisions and implementing strategies for success

History

Established in 1977.

For over 30 years Advanced Reading Concepts has helped to change the professional and personal lives of people caught in the information explosion. Business communications have changed immensely since 1977 when President Bonnie James and several other reading professionals migrated from Evelyn Wood Reading Dynamics and American Speedreading Academy and got together to form Advanced Reading Concepts in Columbus, Ohio. What Bonnie saw in 1977 was an opportunity to help people reach a potential they never even knew they had. Her definition of success is «not how much money you make, but how many lives you have changed.» Since 1977 Bonnie and her staff have taught thousands of people to «read faster and understand more” – giving them the confidence and skills to succeed.

Business Owner

Bonnie James is president and co-​founder of Advanced Reading Concepts. Her passion is helping youth and adults reach their education and career goals. She has received national recognition for helping others improve their reading and comprehension skills. Among her clients are Nationwide Insurance Companies, Wright Patterson AFB, NASA, the Army and the Marines. She has presented workshops for many professional association conferences. She was named the 2013 small business person of the year by the Grandview Chamber of Commerce, received the Career Achievement Award from the Ohio State University’s College of Education and Human Ecology, was a finalist in for Woman of the Year from TechColumbus for her work with researchers and engineers and won the Micro Entrepreneur Of The Year award for consumer services from INCREASE Columbus Development Corporation and was recently the featured entrepreneur in Columbus Business First.
