I did about five solid laps around the North Market the other day… I just couldn’t decide. It was hot, so, I didn’t want to get my go-to Phở, Indian, BBQ etc, so, I landed at Barry’s New York Style Deli. I got a Roast Beef sandwich… I had them substitute sourdough bread for a roll. It was good… They put a pretty decent amount of deli meat on their sandwiches and everything seemed very fresh. The pickle was good… I wish I had ordered extras. I think Barry’s is pretty good… It didn’t knock my socks off or anything. The selection is a little limited compared to Katzingers and even Brown Bag has more interesting combination’s. I would definitely check it out again for a quick sandwich.

Oh sweet Jesus, yes please. A Reuben with kettle chips and a celery soda, please. That’s really all I want to say. I’ve tried the hot dogs, yeah, they’re good, but… I’ve tried some of the other sandwiches, yeah, they’re good, but… I’ve looked long and hard at the salads and thought of my health for one fleeting moment, but… That Reuben. It’s not perfect. But it’s divine none the less.

beef tongue sandwich on rye with hot mustard: good stuff. pickles are decent, but no match for what Katzinger’s is rockin’. Very good potato salad. Proper selection of Dr. Browns. Chicken soup for the Jewish soul. Sabrett hot dogs served.(nom nom)

Barry’s recently revamped its façade. It looks more like a New York taxi cab now with yellow counters and a checker-board pattern lacing the large hanging menu. It makes for a cleaner, more inviting, standout stall than before. I easily passed by the steel counters and gray backsplash of days gone by. But, the facelift made me curious. Barry’s lots of huge sandwiches. They don’t skimp on the meat. A few of the sandwiches are vegetarian. Though the mouth-watering thought of a good Reuben almost swayed me, I went the ovo– route and sampled the egg salad sandwich. It was nothing spectacular, but it didn’t make me recoil either. Giant pickles and crisp, salty chips. The staff is a bit boastful, but the food doesn’t hit the high mark they promise. Still, it’s decent, and I’d gladly have it again.

I tried Barry’s because they were a few bucks cheaper than Katzingers, but I soon discovered why; gristle! The corned beef and the pastrami had gristle in it. Ever try to pick out gristle from a sandwich covered with mustard. Not a huge selection either. So I’m back to Katzinger’s and now I know why they’re always voted the best.

This is one of the stands at the North Market. Nothing special to look at, but their sandwiches are great! This is definitely a New York style deli, with huge delicious sandwiches and great pickles. The bread was amazing, and the cold cuts melted in my mouth(yummmmm). I didn’t think I could eat the whole thing, but it was gone very quickly! I saw a lot more than just sandwiches on the menu. Next time… We were told that remodeling is in progress, and in March/April the shop should look a lot more modern as well.
