Blue Star Barbershop

First time! As recommended, I called 2 hours ahead. I showed up 20 mins early on a Thursday (late afternoon), was told it’d be a 15 – 20 min wait, and 2 mins later, I was in a chair. Stylist was very friendly, asked questions about my hair, and did a great job. My only complaint is that I never caught her name (did not introduce herself). That makes repeat business hard, so I’ll have to catch her again next time.

I called ahead and showed up a few minutes early. Being a Friday afternoon the place was pretty busy, but the longest wait I heard announced was 15 minutes for those that didn’t call ahead. Holly came up and introduced herself shortly after arrived and off to her chair we went. After describing what I was looking for on my head and face, we were off and running. She asked questions a few times throughout our conversation to make sure things were going ok, which they were. I ended up with a great haircut, beard trim, and good conversation. My appointment did take an hour, but she spent just as much time trimming my massive beard as she did trimming my hair. Worth it. I’ll be heading back in a few weeks to do it all over again.

I walked in and waited about 5 minutes. Once in the chair they took about 25 minutes working on getting the cut just right. It looks nice. She definitely worked hard to make sure I was satisfied. Neck straight edge shave and aftershave is a nice find around here. I opted out of the massage due to lack of time.

Don’t bother. Their attempts to be a cool barbershop is nothing but a ruse. They are a Great Clips at best. I went in for an undercut and walked out with what looked like a dead weasel on my head. I ended up going to a great barber (Brass Tacks) in Dallas, TX before my client visit.
My first visit to Blue Star will forever be my last.
Honestly, just go downtown if you want something with staying power. There are many local barbers that can do so much better than these guys.

My husband was in town, a couple of weeks ago, and reeeeally needed a haircut. We’re spoiled, in Seattle, as there is a plethora of barber shops who specialize in men’s hair and beard care. I gotta say, this place was amazing.
You walk in and there’s the scent of masculinity, without it being in an offensive sexist candle. It’s the smell of hot shaving cream and leather razor strips and tea tree shampoo. It’s weird to say, but it brought me back to being a kid tagging along with my dad to the barber shop.
I DIDN’T HAVE TO HOVERWIFE!!! The woman working on my husband understood when he said «um. Just fix this. «lol I know it sounds crazy, but for the first time I was able to just sit back and read a magazine and know my husband wasn’t going to get a «supercuts» hair and beard trim! And he looked (still does!) fantastic. Said it was the best haircut and beard care he’s ever had.
Keep up this amazing place! I’m looking forward to moving to Columbus for this on its own!

I told the «stylist» to not cut the top of my head and then she proceeded to cut the top of my head. She also gave me douchebag pointed sideburns for god knows why. I haven’t had pointed douchebag sideburns since I was 22. She took it upon herself to think I needed these. Now it’s growing back in very oddly, which I hate. I didn’t know this because the chair is turned away from the mirror, maybe so people don’t get to see what’s happening to them.
I’ll be getting my hair cut fixed at another barber. A real barber. Not a bunch of cosmetologist with razor blades.
I look 18 and I look like a douche. Thanks Blue Star.

My hair is not my friend. It’s thick, coarse and vaguely bush-​like. I’m pretty sure my attempt to grow it out in high school was the final coffin in the nail for my girlfriend back then before she broke up with me. And it’s hard finding someone who can cut it and cut it well. I’ve had slanted head syndrome, choppy fades, and unintended buzz cuts from barbers and stylists who can’t admit they’re not up to the task.
Not so with Tasha at the Polaris location, whom is my salvation when my hair gets too buffonic. She knows exactly how to handle my hair, knows how to get the most from it despite its tough texture, and gets it so that I walk out happy — every time. I’ve started taking my son there well. The little guy has these great curls that the ladyfolk love to play with (i.e., completely different than mine, the little effer), but they’ve been mishandled in the past and have come out sloppy in the wrong hands. Tasha kills it with him, too, and he loves going to see her.
I’m almost tempted to be selfish and not mention her by name, because she’s busy enough as it is, and it can be tough to get on her schedule. Also, the stylists at Polaris (from what I’ve seen) are all really talented and you’re sure to get a good cut even as a random walk-​in. But if your coiff is hard to handle and needs experienced and loving hands, she is worth the wait, every minute. Definitely do yourself a favor and call ahead.

My haircut from prior trips to different hair dressers. She also explained everything phenomenally and is very passionate about what she does. Some reviews on here bash that it’s a 30 minutes haircut and I would rather have someone take their time with my haircut because it looks better when people give an effort and don’t just rush you out the door. Five stars for sure and would recommend everyone.

They need to figure out a way on Saturday mornings to take first come, first serve. Taking customers who were not here before others is unacceptable.

Hands down worst experience in recent memory. Barber (Adam) did not have the proper equipment (twice as I gave this location twice hoping for a better experience), took inordinately long to complete a simple haircut, made no attempt to brush hair clippings from my face or clothes, did not clean the back of my neck… in short the most unprofessional experience.
Bad customer experience, poorly trained staff all around… will not visit again.

I had been going to Blue Star for about two years, but my last haircut was my last haircut here. The woman who cut my hair was rude – I think she was trying to be playful in a way that sexually frustrated businessmen probably dig, but I wasn’t really in the mood for it. She also criticized the fact that I didn’t remember what number was on the clippers the last time I had visited (Me (mind you I was already a bit pissed at her attitude): «They have these things called computers, and you can track information like that in programs like Excel or online.» Her: «Yeah, you should do that.»).
I nearly got up out of her chair and told her to go to Hell, but I stayed for the mediocre haircut and left.
I was asked by the cashier how everything was, and I told her that there were personality differences. Her response was to say, «Awwww» like I was a cute puppy or something and then add, «But your haircut looks great!»
I think there is too much estrogen and too much devotion to sexually titillating the Polaris office workers in this place now. The quality of the haircuts has gone down, and it’s neither fun nor worthwhile to get your hair cut here.
In addition, there used to be a very cool soundtrack of 60’s to 80’s rock classics, but now they play whatever dipshit ass stuff the dipshit ass staff likes to hear. Fuck you, Blue Star!

If you want to feel like you are lucky to get a haircut this place is for you.
I have had my hair cut here a couple times, but have walked out the last two. Both times I have called ahead and been told we can get you in at 4:30 but if you come earlier we can probably get you in early.
Both times I have walked out at 5 (didn’t expect early). Couple this with the fact that they drag a 10 minute hair cut to 30 mins and I don’t have time for this.

A classic example of how quickly the quality of business service can erode following management transition. This barbershop once stood as a shining example of quality and service under the watchful eye of hands on ownership. Many of the original stylists and receptionists have departed and, while the current staff is capable of cutting hair, the attitude of the place has taken a dramatic turn for the worse. After giving it more than enough chances to improve, the positive experience is long gone and the Polaris area seems prime for competition to come in and make this place a case study in business value destroyed. Sad.

Blue Star «Barbershop» is nothing more than a jazzed up over priced Cost Cutters. If your looking for a traditional barbershop with men that are real barbers… then Blue Stars is not for you. My kid and I received a below average hair cut only to have the hair stylist give me a dirty look for giving her a four dollar tip for two haircuts.
They should change their name to Blue Star Hair Stylist. I would not recommend this place… There just a bunch of chicks that just finished cosmopolitan school pretending to be real barbers.

Disappointed does not even begin to convey how I feel abouth this place. What used to be a great barber has gone downhill and FAST! The call ahead system is horrible, and there is no manager ont he weekends!
Most of the barbers there are fantastic, one I will NEVER go to again; yet the new management has allowed a once great place to become nothing more than a waste of time. Have used the call ahead system twice and had to wait over 45 minutes –please, in order to keep this business alive, go to appointments and stop running customers away.

Not sure if it’s just me or if this is commonplace but I’ve been to this place 2x in the past 6 months. Both times I have been here (including at this moment) I have been severely disappointed. The staff don’t seem to care who Is waiting, and how long that person has been here.
The first time I was here I scheduled a shave by appointment. I got to Bluestar and was told it would just be a few minutes, no problem. After about 30 minutes of waiting and numerous lies by the receptionist that it would just be a few more minutes I decided to leave. Before I left– I asked to speak to the manager and the receptionist asked why. I told her that I was upset because I had an appointment 30min ago and could not get a straight answer. She then got on the phone and called the person that was supposed to shave me and come to find out he was sitting next door at 5 Guys!
I come back today, thinking that it will be better and it was just as bad. I used the call ahead service and was told 30minutes on the phone. I get to Bluestar about 15min later realizing full well that I had to wait a few more minutes but after an hour of waiting again, I had to walk out with no hair cut.
Now I’m not sure what other companies do– but when there is no one left in line but 1 person, it would stand to reason that they would be next. Not at BlueStar. They take whoever they want, whenever they want. I don’t know if this is just stupidity on their part or if it’s because I am not white like 90% of their clientele. Who knows…

You can’t make an appointment but you can call ahead (up to two hours ahead) to get on the list ahead of others — I love that option because if I don’t make it exactly on time, I can adjust and show up as I can to still enjoy the experience.
Guy at the front was awesome, definitely willing to go above and beyond to satisfy and make sure things went smoothly. Spoke to Sarah on the phone to call ahead, she didn’t write me in on the list but the guy believed and and penciled me in — nice. He also offered to go in the back to check the barber’s schedule (the reason I came) because I didn’t know he wouldn’t be there.
I stayed for the haircut as I couldn’t get the shave. She didn’t introduce herself and the conversation was as enlightening as Sports Clips. She realized over mid-​way through it was my first time there and explained the service, loved the hot towel rub (gets rid of the clipped hair!), shoulder rub was a little awkward. I will say, at a place like this I shouldn’t have to give too many guidelines, definitely skillful but copped me far too short.

They need to rethink the «call ahead» wait list. Showed up just as they opened and was told there are already 20 people on the list ahead of me and the potential wait time could be 2+ hours! I am in your shop and you just opened. Ridiculous. Fair warning to anyone to call ahead before showing up.
I ended up waiting about 25 minutes. Excellent haircut. Requested to skip the neck massage and neck shave. The massage seems strange.

Best haircuts of my life. You’re very very pleased 80% of the time, every time. Sometimes hard to get in for a cut but that’s bc it’s good. Great place to get a quality cut for a very reasonable price…$ 19?! That’s what I’ve paid some very low grade barbers before and these guys are all very talented.
Highly recommended.

It’s hard to find quality in men’s haircuts and when you pay $ 5 for a haircut, it shows, especially if you don’t get it buzzed completely off. My cut before tip has always been $ 19 and I have been through many styles here.
More great things:
1.) Good location. in Polaris beside Five Guys and Firehouse Subs and a few steps from Mellow Mushroom.
2.) $ 19 for a cut, which includes a hot towel, straight razor neck shave with hot cream and a shoulder massage with an electric hand held massager
3.) Plenty of updated mags and books to read
4.) They have a call-​ahead, which I recommend since this place is so popular and busy. They basically put your name down on the list so while you’re driving there they are cutting the hair of everyone ahead of you.
5.) Great for kids. I don’t have one myself but have seen many there with Dads and Moms.
6.) They cut women’s hair as well. I will admit, I have yet to see this but stylists say they come in. mostly during the day. With the place being called a «barbershop», I’m sure it’s a slight turnoff.
7.) They play classic rock and as a forewarning they play it a little loud. Not horrible, but it’s kinda hard to have a conversation in there.
8.) They have a frequent cut club. After 10 cuts, 11^th is free. Ask for the punch card.
9.) Many stylists have specialties, including fades. It’s great to be able to call and ask who does what and be directed to that person. The website always elaborates on each each.
10.) They have a person who takes care of people when they walk in. Now, this might not sound important but I hate coming in and just standing there.
Highly recommend it but call ahead!
