Straight out of the olden times, but food is still a goodie. Chatted with their only other customer a racist Korean vet. If you can avoid that awful awkward conversation than you’ll have a pleasant meal. Another reviewer got it right, there is something about this oddball atmosphere.

Make no mistake, this is a blue collar breakfast dive in a barn. There is no bistro inspired menu. The décor is retro 1982, complete with the dust from that era. Your first thought after opening the door will be to turn and run. Don’t! Walk in and sit down. French toast, sausage gravy over biscuits, bacon, home fries and omelette were all home runs. Price is cheap.

The food was average and the establishment is in a out of the way location. I guess if you lived close this would be worth a walk but overall I will stick to Das Kaffe Haus.

So I got on here this morning and found the reviews to be decent enough to try this place, but it turns out I should have heeded the 1 star ratings. This place was very dirty I found that out when I dropped the paper on the floor and bent under the table to get it. There was a build up of crumbs and such under there that let me know it has not been swept under for a very long time, which makes me think they could have roaches if there kitchen looks anything like the dining area. Server didn’t greet us for the first 5 mins. She came to take our order and didn’t bring her pad so when I said I would have the bb platter with onions in my hash browns she said she better go get it so she didn’t forget anything. There was one table of 4 when we got there and they were obviously regulars. We waited for our food for about 40 once we got our food our server never came back to check on us and only brought us the bill when she saw me putting my coat on. Our food was barely warm and I am pretty sure the sausage gravy is a powdered mix and they just add a bit of sausage(not chunks, just tiny little signs that it is there) the biscuits were weird too like they were from a box, and the over easy egg, was cold and very slimy and the hash browns were cold and very burnt, I got no onions in them and the cheese that it said you can add was also non-existent. Cheap it is but for a very good reason as I won’t eat there for free let alone pay to eat there again, yukko!!!

Service was not good. Took 40 minutes to get breakfast order and they were not busy. Will not be returning here.

We were very disappointed given the strong reviews on Unilocal. We love diners/greasy spoons and this one was a total miss. Waitstaff was clueless, coffee was awful, and omelets were unremarkable. Toast was good. Do not recommend.

I made the trip, and I am really glad that I did. There is something that is really enjoyable about eating at a place that the food is good, and the presentation and atmosphere are so unpretentious that you can’t help but enjoy yourself. The breakfast barn fits this bill nicely. The outside of the ‘barn is dirty, dusty and is falling down, the inside there are a few tables, some which have seen better days, and the walls are covered with ultra conservative comics that regardless of your political ideals are pretty amusing to look at while you wait for your food. The food is simple, tasty, rib sticking, cholesterol filled goodness. The prices are on par with what you would find at any other local dinner but the portions are huge, and just plain tasty. They don’t care about the presentation, the forks and knives and cups are all mismatched, but does all of that really matter if the food is good, the service friendly, and the coffee hot, and strong? You should visit for the great homefrys, pancakes, bacon, eggs, biscuits, and slap your grandma, amazing country gravy. Order the barnyard platter for 5.25 and you’ll be full for most of the day.

The décor seems to be old and run down. The food prices are cheap and it tastes like diner food.

I lived by this place going on 6 yrs now and am sadden that I’ve waited this long to enter their doors. I called my order in, hoping, that it would cut my wait time down-boy was I wrong! My order was a lot more than I expected. But this was because I didn’t have a menu and she charged me for each item separately. I would have gotten a whole lot more if I would have just ordered any one of their«Country Breakfast» and saved like $ 4 bucks!!!

The Breakfast Barn is a little(yes, little) restaurant on Brown Rd in the south central part of Columbus. It’s a little bit west of Greenlawn Cemetary. I had two pancakes and an order of sausage that looked like it might have been instant. The pancakes were pretty good and the sausage was too. There’s nothing too negative about the place, or too positive either. Oh, it’s CHEAP. And it was worth trying. They have some roulette machines in there and the waitress looks like she puts all her tips in them. LOL

I’ve only been to Breakfast Barn once, but I have a fine nose for the Holy and I think I caught a whiff on my visit. There’s something about quaint, unpretentious, kitschy breakfast diners that make them basically my favorite thing ever, and on all these counts Breakfast Barn is a shoe-in to compete in the tournament of champions. First, the place looks like the back-room diner off some roadside house in the woods of northern New England, like you’re not quite sure the place is licensed to sell food but all the locals trust the place, so why not! There is nothing quite approaching decoration in the place, although there are plenty of «decorations», such as they are. There’s a television that would look old hooked up to a SNES turned to daytime local programming. It’s awe-inspiring. The food is the totality of the presentation here, then, and while it is certainly no fancy feast on a silver platter, it’s damn tasty, rib-sticking, properly greasy breakfast food. My group couldn’t stop talking about our food, well after we had gotten over boggle-eyeing all the strange artifacts in the place, not the least of which were the other patrons who filtered in and out. This place was one of my favorites of our late-summer, early-fall«A Diner Each Saturday» thing my friends and I were doing for awhile, for no reason at all besides a love for cholesterol and processed meats in the morning. Do yourself a favor and get out to the Breakfast Barn. In a corner of Columbus you might not believe exists, on a stretch of road that could be a photograph of 1989, there is breakfast salvation calling to your spirit. Answer the call, and be healed.

I love breakfast and so I continually look for places that serve breakfast when I want it(which is normally after noon). I heard about this place and thought that I would give it a shot. I went for the Dexter breakfast. You know, at the beginning of the show Dexter he is making breakfast and it is eggs, ham, potatoes and toast with copious amounts of hot sauce. It was very, very good. The eggs were cooked as well as I would expect any diner to cook them(aka perfect) and everything else was very well executed. It was also cheap. I think that it was something stupid like $ 4.50 for my meal plus coffee(which was good). The décor leaves something to be desired but it felt very homey. Like I was suddenly back in small town Ohio at a local restaurant. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.

There’s a certain shock value attached to seeking out the Breakfast Barn for the first time — especially if you’ve never traveled to this area of town. I wholeheartedly agree with Mike B., believing that the street on which Breakfast Barn rests is a street in Everytown, USA — one of those blink-and-they’re-gone towns nestled on a national road far away from Columbus. The charm in Breakfast Barn reflects the sentiment of the area. Under decorated, mismatch silverware, gingham fabric and wooden shelves with hearts cut out — Breakfast Barn holds country allure shockingly close to Downtown. The menu is a carbon copy of every other greasy spoon you’ve stepped into — a smattering of breakfast staples, a handful of sandwiches and your typical big plate breakfast dish. What sets Breakfast Barn apart is the quality of the food for the same price as other diners. $ 5.75 bought me a Barnyard Platter with 2 eggs, home fries, biscuits and my choice of breakfast meats(sausage links). Oh, and smothered in a thick heavenly sausage gravy! It’s hard to describe the home fries. The potatoes are like shingles, or chucked or … some word I can’t describe. Perfectly browned on all sides and salty with butter. The same praise can be directly applied to the pancakes, all of which were different sizes and shapes(loved it). Nothing fancy about the biscuits, in fact I left one untouched on my plate. The sausage links surprised me the most, juicy with great flavor and not dried out. This is a testament to how they must be prepared as I can’t imagine that Breakfast Barn creates their own sausage links. My list of complaints are small and trivial. The coffee was terrible, and while that’s a complaint from me — for others it might be a selling point. I could not find a single packed of sugar in Breakfast Barn, only a sea of neon pink sweetener. The lady hacking up her cancerous lung in the booth across the diner would have turned me off of my meal completely had she arrived earlier. Going in a group larger than 2 to Breakfast Barn will also result in dishes being brought to your table sporadically, making me believe that the kitchen can’t handle more than two orders at a time. If I lived anywhere in the neighborhood, I would be a regular at Breakfast Barn on the weekend. Not only was this place delicious and adorable, the service was warm and friendly.

The Breakfast Barn has real food at great prices and close to downtown. I don’t know if i would make the trip again but if i were in the area i would be sure to make a stop. The best part of this place was that it felt like home, completely hometown and down to earth, no frills attached just good food. If you have ever lived in a small town this would be a great place to come for breakfast because it feels like the kind of place that you have been to before.

Said a big ut oh when we walk in the door, but knew there must be a sivler lining to this place( Unilocalers never steer me wrong). This place is a dive no bones about it. But once you get past the blanks walls, and the 7″ TV with law and order reruns going on behiend the counter the food is darn good and cheap! I enjoyed the«BB Plate» homefries and a biscuit with 2 eggs covered in sausage gravy with bacon on the side for a mere $ 5.50. Would have been perfect if I was only a little hungover, but still put a dent in the giant pile o grub. Wife had the 2 eggs, homefries and toast for $ 3.50. The waitress was great also! She brought some special jams and jellies that she had hidden in the back including fresh plum and also a homemade apple butter! Dont go here on a first date but if you are in the area and in need of some good eats give it a try!

Great greasy spoon. The Barnyard Platter involves a pile of homefries topped with a homemade biscuit, which is topped with a couple of prepared your way eggs. This is then covered is thick, flavorful gravy, and served with a side of meat(I picked bacon). I would recommend this to anybody who doesn’t care about their heart condition. Because it is AWESOME.

Definitely has that country slapdash diner feel to it, and the waitress looked like she could be named«Dot». The food is great, will come again for sure(although I have my fingers crossed that Jerry Springer won’t be playing on their Diner TV next time!).

The Breakfast Barn is as close as you are going to get to real diner food in Columbus. We went for breakfast, I had steak and eggs, my wife had ham omelet. We both had home fries. My steak was cooked exactly the way I ordered it, and the home fries never saw the inside of a freezer — they were cut fresh from real potatoes and fried to crispy perfection. The wife’s only complaint was too much ham in omelet! We saw home made french toast and pancakes on their way out that looked great, and the biscuits and gravy looked good too. Service was fast and sweet, with constant refills of drinks. The place is as clean as can be, and as country friendly as any small town diner. Forget those crowded places on High Street, take a short drive to the near southwest side and experience a tasty breakfast at a great price, without waiting in line!(we went Sunday morning at 9, and sat right down). Plenty of parking, too! It’s just a mile off Harrisburg Pike on Brown Rd., maybe 3 miles from downtown. Give it a try, and you won’t be disappointed.

The Breakfast Barn is someplace that you’d expect to find on main street in a town of less than 500 people somewhere amongst the cornfields of the Midwest. However, the BB is close to 71, Harrisburg pike and 104. The exterior and interior, like most businesses in this area of c-bus, are run down and nothing to look at. That is overshadowed by the overwhelmingly country welcome feel of the place, from the homey waitress, the Sunday regulars helping themselves to pots of coffee and the short order(and fused) greasy spoon cook. A very hearty breakfast and coffee comes out to a tune of under ten bucks. I had the chopped steak, served with hash browns(nice and crispy!), toast and eggs. The chop steak was not too fatty or stringy, and was very juicy and tender. Everything done the way you’d expect good diner food to be. Being a victim of institutionalized breakfasts from McD’s and Tim Horton’s, it’s good to get out and try a «small town» joint that just has good food you can’t get in a rush.
