Meet the Business Owner

Nicholas H.

Business Owner

Nicholas began in the flooring industry as a a helper to his father and his small self owned company, Maryland Floor Designs. He was 12 years old when he started running his first sanding machine and using a wood scraper. Baltimore, Maryland was rich with population at one point due to the Ports and B&O railroad. The industry brought in familes and jobs, and their homes were covered with now extinct «Heart Pine» flooring To learn to sand on painted 200 year old flooring is a unique labor intensive art; old spiral stairs, warped and bruised, gaps in the floor, and some floors with 8 or more layers of lead… This type of work is best considered «Restoration» rather than «Sanding». Its an art of few craftsman. We are a restoration and installation company, a unique brand, made from true hardworking gentlemen who see a craft rather than a labor… Hence our logo on cards and vans, a «Heart Pine» tree
