Computer Express

These guys are my heroes. Tim the tech genius in particular. I had an old external hard drive that I had kept around as a «back up» because it had all of the pictures of my girls when they were little. The pictures got lost, and I discovered that the old hard drive had died! No one else would even touch it. (Tek Experts: «We don’t work on hard drives.» MicroCenter: «We could ship it off to our partners in Colorado but it will cost you a minimum of $ 750…») Computer Express made no promises but said they would try. Tim got everything to show up and copied all those pictures onto my new hard drive for only $ 65! Thank you!

This small, indy, used computer shop is across the alley from Mirocenter next to the tea brewer underneath the puzzling placed luxury apartments off Bethal. I have bought several personal machines (one I built with some parts from there) in my time. It seems to be shrinking as it once rented the room to the south now vacant.
They also do repairs, a service I’ve used a few times. Virus cleaning being a common problem of mine, though they failed to save a laptop that went to the digital afterworld in the cloud. They were very nice, helpful, and did not have tech snobbery– no Simpson’s Comicbook Guy works here that I’ve met.
Now smaller, they do have a fair amout of products. The desk and laptops are mostly priced right, though on a few higher end machines they push acceptabilty on pricing for used items. They have accessories: keyboards, mice (is that the right world for plural ‘puter mouses?) mouse pads, fans, ect.
They were not buying used items the day I went. If you are looking to sell, there may not be much of an opportunity.
I think they have lost something on their downsize though. They seems to not offer much of a selection in parts or other fun. Still if you are going to Mirco for a new machine, swing over here and check for a deal.

Came into computer express to get a quote on my 2013 dell computer system. Owner quoted me only $ 100 for computer. System is worth at least $ 200+ refurbished. After telling him i’d like to price elsewhere of making a decision, I took the computer back with me. The following Monday I dropped of the computer and 15″ lcd screen with his son. I received a message a few days later that Jeff (the owner) told me he suggested to receive no less than $ 100 when selling online and they’d only buy it to for $ 50. This was half of what I was originally quoted. Today (1week later) I returned to collect my money and the same asdociate Tim said he wouldn’t give me anything for it. After telling me they already have a few Vista running conputers that they haven’t been able to sell, they wouldn’t buy it back and if I wanted to talk to Jeff, id have to call in tomorrow. How do you go from $ 100 to $ 0 in one week? I wouldn’t have taken the sell so personal if they wouldn’t have dropped the sell price each week it was in their possession. This is terrible business and I will tell everyone I know!!!

Great place to get help with computer service. Friendly people who actually know computers. They have cool custom gaming rigs for an affordable price too.

First, some background. I was looking for a convertible laptop, the kind that goes from laptop to tablet in a couple of seconds. I did not want to buy a new one, just something inexpensive for work. After perusing «Used Computers» online, I came across Computer Express. Perfect! I live down the road! So I decided to stop in after work.
Now mind you, I do not stereotype and I am wholly against any kind of pre-​judging of people. When I walked in, there were four people: one customer who was engaged in conversation with the salesperson behind the register and two other people who looked like sales people. I assumed they were sales people because both had red shirts, similar to the register guy. One was playing on a computer, I could tell because I heard the telltale sounds and music. The other guy was just kind of hanging about, half hearing the conversation up front, and sort of staring off into space.
I am a self-​confessed nerd. I have built computers, I have installed Linux in a dual-​boot configuration on my laptop, and so on. I know my way around a computer. As such, I really do not need any hand-​holding or coddling in a store like this. But I did not get one acknowledgment of my walking in. Again, I hate to stereotype, but I realize that most computer people are introverted. No big deal, I understand. I was not looking for an in depth conversation about pixel density. But a simple «Hi, how are you» or «Need help with anything» goes a long way. I know. I am in sales. That is all I ask and if I do have a question, I will ask politely.
So the store is as it is advertised. Lots of computer parts that are used. I even saw some Mirror Door PowerMacs. Sweet! I also did see a convertible laptop similar to what I was looking for. I was going to ask about it, but I knew enough about it that it would have been just cursory questions about condition and such. Not sure if I am going back or not. I am sure they are nice guys, but just a little effort would probably pay off in the long run.
Three stars because of the awesome inventory. Maybe a four if someone would have said something. Possibly five if they talked to me about the original Command and Conquer series.
