Laughlin’s Bakery

I thought this would be a great go to for different events. Customers seem to love the food. The staff was alright.
At the request of the owner I’m scaling back the review.
This place is probably ok if you live in the neighborhood, but it’s not worth driving to.

Laughlin’s Bakery is one of the best fixtures in our neighborhood with all of their scrumptious treats! Not only are all of the bake goods to die for, their staff is welcoming and helpful! Being in real estate, we make sure to stop by and pick up some Laughlin’s treats whenever meeting a new client because it is the perfect way to welcome them to the neighborhood! If you haven’t tried this place, you need to; and if you have, I’m sure I am already preaching to the choir! This place is GREAT!

I’d say it’s a good little bakery with a nice selection and friendly staff. The location is great if you’re down in my short area. The banana bread is really good along with the roasted tomato crunchy bread thing they have. Everything tastes good and is made with care. The only reason I could give just three stars is that I find their baked goods to be too dry for my liking. The taste is pleasant but I have to have a glass of water.

The butter aroma slaps you silly when you walk in. Madeleine’s were delish as was the lemon pound cake. Tis small though and thus has a limited variety of baked goods. I want a little more to choose from. Still, lovely surroundings and staff make this a worthwhile stop. The quality of the bake was very high.

Absolutely DELICIOUS!!! Very impressed with the variety of baked goods. The staff is very friendly & passionate about sharing their knowledge of baking & offerings for the day. We were greeted with a smile and some free samples– all scrumptious. The value you get for such great tasting & fresh baked goods is great. We left w/​lemon madeleines (perfectly sweetened and fluffy), single-​serving chocolate cakes w/​chocolate ganache (very rich), cookies (yum) among other sweets. Laughlin’s is located right at the end of High St. in the Short North area so may not be within easy view but it’s nestled right in the corner w/​metered parking around.

The baguettes are amazing. I am making it a weekend tradition to stop in and get one every Saturday morning if I can help it. With each visit it is impossible to not leave with several treats. I have been here several times and every time I try something new I am surprised how good it is because it seems unfair for one bakery to make so many different pastries and treats so well!
The best advice I can offer is to stop reading these reviews and go try it!

This bakery is less than a five minute walk from my apartment, so I’ve kind of been avoiding going here as so not to get lured in to making it a regular stop. However, I «needed» some pastries for a meeting at work and decided to stop in last Friday morning.
No one else was in the shop around 8:30AM, which was good because I wanted to take a look at everything in the display cases. The employee who helped me was the most hipster of hipsters (not unexpected). I ended up with an assortment of chocolate croissants, almond croissants, and cheese danish (seven pieces came to $ 24). I liked the cheese danish best out of these three — not a huge fan of almond paste, and chocolate croissants can be tricky to get a good balance of croissant and chocolate.
I can’t afford to come back too often, but I will definitely be trying their Buckeye cake one of these days.

I thought I enjoyed the few things we tried a few days ago, until we came today and loved it even more. I wish I had asked the name of the guy who helped us a few days ago and who was also there today. He is the type of person who makes you feel appreciated as soon as you step in the door and is proud of what they serve on their menu, as they should be. We kind of went a little wild with what we ordered today, since I won’t be in town for a while. My mom got her almond croissants (two in fact) and we made the mistake of eating of it while walking out and immediately turned back around and got two more. That’s the best almond croissant we’ve all had in a very long time. Some other things we tried today:
Madeleines (wonderful the second time as well)
Peanut butter cookie sandwich
Pistachio honey pound cake
Chocolate caramel corn (they gave it as a sample when we came in and it was so good we bought some for my dad is an avid popcorn eater and enthusiast)
Cheddar dill scone (this was delicious and the perfect amount of dill)
Almond citrus pound cake
This place is added to my list of places that I must visit while at home. Can’t wait to come back next year!

Laughlin’s is a great little bakery near the Short North. The location right off High Street isn’t great for parking, but there are a few meters outside in the front of the building.
I’ve tried a variety of items from the menu. The Pain de Mie is only $ 5! This loaf of bread is absolutely awesome for sandwiches and french toast. It will make a ton of serving because it’s huge! The rustic white bread is perfect with soup. My favorite dessert item has to be the pound cake. The pistachio honey and almond circus pound cake are both moist and full of flavor. So so so good. The almond croissant was a little more charred than I prefer, but the filling was perfectly sweet and packed with almond flavor.
One other thing I love about Laughlin’s is the price. Maybe it’s just me, but I always feel like I get a high quality product for a really good price. I feel like they could get away with charging at least a dollar more on some products.
As some other people have mentioned, the customer service is fantastic. Every employee seems excited to talk about the food and offer help! A fantastic little bakery with perfect customer service — it doesn’t get much better than that.

Best chocolate croissants in the area! Everyone is always very nice.
Looking forward to trying their cakes.

The menu may be on the limited side (unless you’re pre-​ordering cake… then, in that case, wow) but dammmmmmn Gina, Laughlin’s bakes up one helluva double chocolate cookie.
Listen, I have low expectations for anything gluten free. I’m not GF, but I have friends who are, and frankly, I feel the sads for them (I’ve tasted their food). That being said, this GF double chocolate cookie is beyond delicious.
Laughlin’s is adorable, and Parisian, and its simple-​ness is perfection. So is their cookie. Get a dozen.
My only wish? That they would carry decaf coffee or espresso. We all have dreams.

Love this little bakery. I tried the pain au chocolat and it was so good. Also tried the pumpkin sandwich cookie with butter cream. The cookie was good but the butter cream was way too sugary for me.
Next time I’m in the Short North, I will definitely have to make a stop and pick up some goodies here.

Popped into Laughlin’s yesterday afternoon to oogle some treats… It’s pretty cute in there! It’s small, but warm and friendly.
Between the group we agreed that the lemon madeleines were the best! They were soft and cakey, with a very delicate glaze. They tasted like they were baked with love (and real lemon). You know, you can always tell when things are baked with love (and real lemon).
We also sampled the chocolate chip pecan cookies and the pumpkin cake. Both great — but the madeleines were the shining stars… and at only $ 1 a piece… we’ll definitely be back for more!

This small bakery rocks. I have only had a couple of things but they have been amazing. The décor is very cute and the display is delicious looking. For the fall they have pumpkin sandwich cookies. Words cannot express the amount of deliciousness that they contain. Yum! I will crave them all year. They are soft but with some integrity and the cream cheese filling is flavored. It was cookie perfection. Their shortbread is also delish! Not too sweet with a perfect balenace.

A true gem of a bakery.
My boyfriend had mentioned coming to «Laughlin’s» often, always insisting that I come with at some point. I was skeptical that it was as much of a «European bakery» as he had described, but decided to join him on a Sunday morning. Thank goodness I did. While some may not immediately see this place as a French bakery since it foregoes the Eifel Towers and French flags and due to its unassuming name, the breadth and quality of breads and pâtisseries available put it on the rung of beautiful French boulangeries. I will likely keep coming back until I have tried everything, since everything I have eaten is so artfully prepared and delicious. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and the small dining area is a quaint place to enjoy a morning. I only wish they had more beverages available than water and coffee.

The addition of Laughlin’s to the Short North has significantly improved my quality of life. Waking up and walking to this small bakery is the kind of experience that just makes life seem quaint and easy. But if you have to drive there it is well worth the trip. The potato-​bacon galette can’t be beat for something filling. The carrott-​almond torte stellar. You can really taste the distinct flavors in everything that they make — they all pop. You know the scene in Ratatouille where Remy describes eating to the other rat and each individual flavor is represented by a swirling color? Eating at Laughlin’s is like that.
This weekend I also purchased a loaf of bread from them for the first time. I got the pain de mie or the «sandwhich bread.» It’s a little sweet and pretty spongy. I’ve yet to try it on a sandwich but it made some pretty great toast.
If you live in the Short North, make this a regular stop for all your baked goods.

Everything that’s been said about this place so far is spot on. The girlfriend and I made it to this place on Saturday morning in the snow, and I was surprised to see the place still full with people coming and going. She really loved the building it sat in, and I thought it was a pretty cool looking spot.
The owners of the bakery were extremely nice and helpful and went over every item they had for us, describing them in detail with so much enthusiasm that I almost felt bad not buying one of everything there.
I settled on a chocolate croissant, a madeleine, and a slide of the almond citrus pound cake, which was the counter man’s ultimate recommendation and soon became my girlfriend’s favorite. The madeleine was pretty great, and the chocolate croissant was good, but it didn’t really wow me. The winner here was definitely the pound cake.
They have daily specials, and Saturday’s was carrot cake and a Buckeye cake that looked awesome, so I’ll be sure to be back and try whatever else they’re offering that day. It’s a tiny little place, so they don’t have the largest selection in the world, which is a bit of a bummer, but what they do have, for the most part, is pretty damn good. It’s not in the most crowded part of the Short North, so it’s a bit easier to find parking as well if you’re not walking around. Also, the pricing was incredibly reasonable in comparison to the quality of the goods. I highly recommend making a visit!

Love it. Great pastries, both of the innovative and the traditional sort. This is one of the reasons why I love Columbus – we are so lucky to have all kinds of flavors and artisan shops opening up around us… It might not be good for my waistline but definitely so, so good on my soul.
My roommate has been boasting about this place for at least two weeks now. After today I understand why. I came in and was greated by the most friendly guy! He gave me the run down of everything they had, recommendations, and his personal favorites. I ended up walking out with at Cheddar Dill Scone and a cup of coffee.
I would have to say that the texture of the Cheddar Dill Scone was more like a biscuit than a scone, and I only wish I had some honey to drizzle all over it. I could really taste the skill in making the pastry, but I would have liked a little more dill and perhaps a tad of sweetness to really bring out the cheddar.
Funny thing is that my roommate had actually gone in the morning right before I was there, and she brought me back some of the Florentine cookies. OK. These suckers are so, so so, sooooooo good. It reminded me a lot of baklava, except that it was topped with all sorts of nuts and dried fruit. It was sweet for sure, but not cloyingly sweet as many baklavas tend to be. She claims she did not finish the entire bag of the cookies (I dont believe her at this point because its so good I probably would have).
Honestly if they only sold these cookies I would be there all the time. Eat it after and between every meal.
Other notes:
You can park on the street, though parking is limited. If you are doing an quick in-​n-​out, I suppose if you don’t tell anyone you can briefly park across the street behind chipotle, but i didn’t do that of course…
There are a couple tables for you to linger for about 10 minutes… not the kind of place you would hang out, though I feel like for a place like this if there were more space, it would be fun to go with a couple friends for a quick coffee.

Walking into Laughlin’s Bakery is like stepping into a café in Paris. And not in a cheesy, Parisian-​themed way — it just has this casual elegance that is perfect for sitting with a cup of coffee and enjoying a pastry and conversation with a good friend.
But not too many friends — Laughlin’s is tiny! There are three tables with two chairs each. The space doesn’t feel cramped though… it’s super cozy! (Hint hint: This isn’t the type of place where you take your MacBook and work for hours.)
Everyone here is super friendly and helpful, and you can tell they are genuinely excited to be working here. The pastries all looked delicious, and I can’t wait to take them to friends all over the city to try. As for me, I’ll be coming back for the gluten-​free double chocolate cookie. I promise it’s amazing even if you love to gorge on gluten. They also serve Thunderkiss coffee, which is equally delightful.
I’m totally rooting for this gorgeous little shop — it’s such a breath of fresh air in the Short North (Italian Village)!
