This is my 4^th salon I have tried in Columbus and I think I found a winner!!!
— Parking was a pain
— Staff was very friendly, and there was refreshments if wanted
— Very hip atmosphere
— My hair dresser was Jesee and she was great! She listened, she asked questions, and I saw she had a vision and I let her at it. Even got to have the dry haircut versus a wash, so I saved money!
— Chatted about my curly hair and how I can better manage it. It was great advice!
Overall: Really liked the vibe and more importantly this was the best haircut I have ever gotten in Columbus hands down! Pricing is very fair versus other places, she didn’t try to sell me things the whole time like other places, and she listened and delivered unlike other places. I have another appointment in 8 weeks and will hopefully get the same great service!
Only con was seriously the parking. What a nightmare.

How much do I love Lucky 13? Well I will not be getting my hair cut anywhere else ever. unless I have to move too far away and then well I’ll have to reconsider.
But yes, I love Lucky 13! I have been going there for the last 6 years and have never been upset with the result. Jen is the stylist that has been cutting my hair for the last few years and I think she’s amazing. I never have to work too hard to explain what I’m looking for and she knows how to make my hair look good. The other stylists are all really awesome there as well. They are always really welcoming and make the place feel comfortable.
If you’re like me and require haircuts often they have a punch card that gets your 13^th cut for free. They also have a really convenient online scheduling system which will keep track of your visits. Make sure you do make an appointment, it works really nicely and their ready for you right away when you arrive.

Great people. Non judgmental. Creative. Reasonably priced. Highly recommend this place been going for years. Cool tattoo parlor esque type feel and they always march in the pride parade.

I highly recommend Lucky 13 salon, and Jen in particular. I went in for my first visit with hair down to my mid-​back, asked her for a pixie cut (I brought a picture), and she didn’t bat an eyelash. I walked out with it looking fabulous, the products to keep it looking so, and advice about how to style it (which I needed given I’ve never had a pixie cut before). I was worried what would happen after the first wash when I would be on my own — but the cut practically fell into place on its own while it air dried. My hair looks just like the picture I brought in, and I have never been able to say that before. I look and feel great, and have never been so happy with a haircut. Make your appointment now!

I lied. I let my hair grow out… twice. Grew… shaved…grew again. I’m back.

In general, I’m not a big fan of getting my hair cut (which is unfortunate, because with the styles I go for I generally need frequent touchups). I always, ALWAYS feel uncomfortable/​awkward making small talk with my stylist, and they never listen to what I want. I’ve even had my facial features insulted by a long-​term stylist who charged way too much for her services.
I booked an appointment one day in advance because all of my usual spots were booked up. I walked into Lucky 13 and immediately felt comfortable. My stylist, Heather, was incredibly down to earth, and when I showed her a picture of what I’m trying to grow my hair out to look like, she immediately got it. She was also really nice about the fact that my hair was suuuuper gross that morning and loaded up with dry shampoo. I had the dry cut, which for $ 29 was perfect on my college student budget. I was not at all pressured to buy expensive salon products that I can’t afford, either. I am incredibly pleased with my experience for once, and will definitely be booking an appointment there in the future.

This is a nice little place on the inside, it has cool and eclectic art and collages all around, good music playing, and the staff are happy and radiate a lot of positivity. However, I did not have a pleasant experience any of the 3 times that I went to lucky 13 salon.
My first visit, I was excited that they offer a dry cut. The salon I usually go to the cut comes with a wash and blowout and is a bit more expensive. But when I went in for a very simple dry cut, an even length cut all around with no layers or anything fancy, I left with one side of my hair longer than the other… I thought, really!!! At a professional salon? I have dry, damaged hair from previous bleaches (biggest regret of my life), so the stylist recommended a clear gloss, and said it would make my hair shiny and improve the overall integrity of my hair without any harsh chemicals. I was desperate to improve my hair, so I went back for a consultation to ask more about this clear gloss. At the consultation this stylist fixed the uneven length for no extra charge and also highly highly recommended the clear gloss.
My second visit, I went for the clear gloss. They put it on and I was overwhelmed by the intense chemical scent that was on my head. I sat under a dryer and they gave me a towel because «sometimes it drips a little»… HA. I might as well have sat under a faucet of this jelly chemical concoction. The dripping was out of control. I rubbed my face raw with that towel as it CONSTANTLY dribbled down my face, inbetween my eyes, in my ears, down my chin and neck and into my shirt for the whole 20 – 30 minutes. It was uncomfortable and embarrassing. I almost asked to be done 15 minutes early because it was unbearable. It was rinsed out and I opted out of the blow out because I don’t like to use heat on my hair, but I still had to pay the full price for the color and blowout.
In the next couple days, my hair was grossly shiny only on the top in the front, and the rest was still dull and unmanageable. To this day, I notice nothing, i only wonder what additional damage that has caused to my hair. So I called back because I did not feel okay with spending over $ 50 on a terribly uncomfortable experience that did not provide the results as promised. I made an appointment for a conditioning treatment that they would do for free, and when I got there on time for the appointment, the stylist that was supposed to do my service was not in that day. ?? The receptionist ended up having to put the conditioning treatment on me because they somehow made an appointment for me that did not exist and there were no other stylists available… They did not charge me for the conditioning treatment which was kind, however I will note that the cost of getting that Morrocanoil conditioning treatment done there costs as much as the entire tub that you can buy on your own.
The staff is pretty nice and you can tell the morale is high, but I will not be going back, the most uncomfortable and disappointing experience at a hair salon I have ever had.

Heather is the best. I have curly/​wavy hair, and after 20 years, she was able to give me an awesome short haircut that didn’t look like a football helmet without having to use an entire tub of pomade.
She listens really well, too. I have to grow out my hair for an event, and she’s working with that, rather than fighting it, like some other hairdressers have done.
I love the Lucky 13 punch-​card, too. The atmosphere is also comfortable, so when I’m spending a while under the hair dryer, it’s zen rather than torturous.

I have been going to Lucky 13 for about 2 years now. I have seen no one but Jen, as from my 1^st appointment she has been fabulous! I originally went in with chin length hair but wanted a pixie. Jen was not scared to just chop and she made it look perfect! Since then, I have gone from red to platinum, back to red, to my natural brown and now back to platinum. Jen has been fantastic through it all! I go in every 5 – 6 weeks for a trim and root job and couldn’t be happier. I also love the punch card where you get your 13^th haircut for free, since I am in to get a trim so often. When Angela was at the front desk (she is now a stylist.), she knew who I was and would check me in before I could even get to the front desk. Jen also always offers me a beverage before she starts our appointment. Always great customer service.
If you are looking for a cool and laid back professional hair salon, without that snobby feel that some salons give off, choose Lucky 13! I’m a customer for life!

Finally have settled on a hairdresser in Columbus. It’s been six months and quite a few stylists since I moved from NY and TJ’s my man! Adam is also great. I get a men’s barber cut since I have short hair and though they both use clippers with scissors, they’re very thorough. TJ is a stand up dude and I loved talking to him. His haircut has stood the test of time. It’s two weeks past when I usually get a cut and it still looks good. That, is the mark of a good haircut. I dig it.

Ever since moving to Columbus, I’ve been looking for a stylist that has «it.» In the interest of full disclosure, I don’t know even know what «it» is. My old stylist in Cleveland had «it.» I went to him for as long as I was in Cleveland, and I never would have strayed!
Since May, I’ve tried out 3 stylists and salons. Call me particular, but I know what I want in a haircut! I also have a pixie cut, so I need to get haircuts every 4 – 6 weeks, in my defense.
The first one was good; the salon was hip and trendy, but I didn’t love my hair afterwards (especially because my stylist had a vision that didn’t match mine and I didn’t realize it until halfway into the cut!) The prices were a little high, but not unreasonable. I went there once. The second one was good; the salon was fine, the stylist was fine, and my hair was fine, but nothing spectacular. The prices were really reasonable. I went there twice. In both of the aforementioned cases, I felt a little awkward talking to the stylists. They weren’t unfriendly by any stretch of the imagination, but I felt like the conversation was a little forced. Even though both were good, I was still looking for other places that might have what I was looking for. I scheduled an online appointment with Lucky 13 and I have to say; I think I’ve hit the jackpot!
The online scheduling system is super easy, and you can even do it through Unilocal.I did so, and was able to schedule a dry cut with Jen during my lunch break (which, might I say, most places never seem to have lunch appointments, so I was really grateful for that!)
I left for my appointment, which was a short drive down High St. The salon itself is in a pretty convenient location, especially in terms of it having parking. I found a spot really close to the salon on the side street right next to it, though there were also parking spots in front.
I checked in with the receptionist and was soon greeted by Jen. She was super friendly and easy to talk to, which is such a welcome change! We talked the whole appointment.
Not only was she friendly, but she was ON POINT with my hair. As I alluded to earlier, the last two stylists I’ve gone to haven’t done what I wanted with my hair in one way or another; the first one cut my bangs shorter than I wanted. Once they had grown out, I asked the second stylist to give me bangs, and she just didn’t, so I had this weird in-​between bang business going on. She also didn’t cut much of my hair so I had a flat, nearly mullet-​y pixie cut after 4 weeks. Jen GOT it. I wasn’t even able to fully articulate what I wanted, and she still got it. I have super cute bangs that I know will grow out in such a way that I won’t be hating my hair between appointments. She also FINALLY cut my hair short enough in the back, so that I won’t look like I’m attempting to channel an 80’s rocker in about a month. My hair is shorter than I’m used to, but in a good way. It finally has volume and shape and texture; my fine, limp hair is actually doing something good! It was $ 29 for a dry-​cut, which is pretty reasonable.
I’m pretty sure I’ve conveyed this already, but I am SO excited to have found a salon in Lucky 13 and a stylist in Jen. Couldn’t be more pleased with my hair, and I’m excited to go back!

I’d like to start off by saying that Lucky 13 is an overall good salon, and I have had mostly good experiences there in the past few years. However, I’m specifically going to review their DevaCurl cut with 3-​step wash and style that I recently received.
The Backstory:
I’ve been wearing my hair naturally curly (daily) for over a year now. I’ve had the DevaCurl cut at 2 other salons (Shag in Westerville and Ambushed in Short North) in Columbus. I just moved down the street from Lucky 13, and noticed they offer curly cuts, so I figured I would try them out.
The Research:
I first noticed on their website that the DevaCurl cut costs $ 59 dollars, compared to a regular cut of $ 39. I understand that salons charge more for this specific cut, but I also know that Lucky 13 has stylists that specialize in cutting curly hair in general — so I was a little confused on what option I should take. I called the salon and asked for clarification on the 2 cut options, and the receptionist informed me that I should get the DevaCurl cut if I wear my hair curly every day. I went ahead and made an appointment, despite the fact that I had been paying $ 20 less to get my curly cut at Ambushed.
The Cut:
I received a quick dry cut before the wash portion of the cut. My stylist informed me she could trim more after she washed and styled. Then, after my stylist washed my hair in the sink, she instructed me to flip my head over towards my feet while my hair was sopping wet. I did so, and got water everywhere. My jeans and shoes were wet, and so was the floor around me. She then kept instructing me to flip my head to each side as she applied hair gel. The whole process seemed very sloppy, and I felt a little awkward to be making such a mess in the salon. After my stylist partly dried my hair with a diffuser, I was informed that the hood dryers at the salon were new, and for some reason «sucked hair to the inside of the dryer» — so I was left with ½ wet hair… and then she said she was done! I didn’t even know what to say. My stylist sensed my hesitance, and told me that once my hair fully dried out, I could come back and have her trim some more off if I wanted. I said thanks, paid and tipped appropriately, and then left.
Why I won’t be going back to Lucky13 for a DevaCurl cut:
My haircut ended up looking good after I was able to go home and re-​style it to my liking. I am not upset with my finished style, but I will definitely be going back to Ambushed as my primary curly hair salon. At Ambushed I’m always offered a beverage before my appointment, I get a scalp massage after the stylist washes my hair, I don’t have to flip my hair everywhere, my hair is fully diffused until it is dry so I don’t have to walk out with wet hair AND I get all of this for the price of $ 40!
Let this be a lesson to my fellow curly headed friends, you truly get more bang for your buck at other salons that offer the exact same service.

I’m lazy. I prefer to use ‘low maintenance’ as a more appealing description, but let’s be honest. Because of this, I tend to wait until my hair is a long, unruly mass with a life of its own before I finally succumb to a haircut. This typically amounts to about 1 haircut a year, and I usually spend the first 5 minutes apologizing to whichever hairdresser is tasked with taming the beast. Also, I have a LOT of hair and it’s quite thick, so it’s no walk in the park to cut/​style, I’m sure.
I usually make an appointment online (which is super easy) and choose whichever stylist is available at the time I’m free. I’ve been going to Lucky 13 pretty consistently over the last few years, and I’ve never had a bad haircut! I just get the dry cut/​style, and it’s around $ 29. Sometimes I bring in a picture, sometimes I just describe what I want. All of their hairstylists are super friendly, and really easy to talk to. Last time I was there, the 40 minutes just flew by and the conversation was so fun that I was actually a little sad to leave! If you walk away from the table and later realize that you need a change or have some errant hairs, you can call them up and they’ll fix it for free.
The shop is spacious and decorated with a fun collage of funky magazine cutouts, and usually playing a mix of indie/​doo-​wop/​pop music. If you can make an appointment online ahead of time, I recommend it, as they are usually pretty booked on the weekends. For an affordable and stylish haircut, Lucky 13 is the place to go!

To be honest, after my first visit, I was pretty ready to write off Lucky 13 as a miss and I should have stuck with that. I had a split appointment between two stylists (the person I wanted to cut my curls wasn’t trained in the type of color she thought would be a good fit for me) and it kind of felt like I was being squeezed in/​treated like a half-​client by both. Also, the color job was a definite flop, not terrible but definitely nothing like the picture I had brought in and not the natural look I was hoping for (the color was pretty uneven with stripey highlights).
I decided to try again with a different stylist (not going to mention names because — as stated below — I actually like the person and think she tried). We did some services over the year that worked (although there were a few times I had to go back later in the week or visit a different salon due to a less-​than-​thorough cut leaving me with split ends). I went to see different stylists but I liked this stylist’s personality and the prices at Lucky 13 were reasonable so I kept going back. I went a few weeks ago looking to go from a dark to a light brown and I showed this picture:
. I ended up with something entirely different. The fact that I brought in a picture and she kept saying I’m going to brainstorm colors for you should have raised red flags (even when I asked for the color to be fixed I still didn’t feel like I was listened to and had to be pretty forceful that I wanted to go back to a natural color rather than do another experiment with highlights on my already-​brittle hair). I have posted a picture to show how streaky/​bright/​clownish/​damaged my hair looked (I did not do anything between leaving the salon and taking this picture other than brushing my hair). Honestly, there are way worse pictures of the roots/​unevenness but those are too embarrassing to post. I think the worst part of it was how she kept saying how great it was when I left. I was in the salon for 6 – 7 hours so maybe she was just trying to go home but, if this was honestly a good result, that’s a little scary.
I did ask to get it fixed and went back in insisting that I really wanted it light brown. It is brown now although still very streaky and it looks brassy/​fuzzy/​damaged (although better since my service at Phia yesterday… see my review there).

I have been a Lucky 13 client since 2010. I love the atmosphere and staff at the salon. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable making you feel comfortable and welcome.
I am very picky about who cuts my hair as well as the cut and the amount of time to style it. My stylist knows this and gives me a style that is is easy to maintain while still looking great. I also love that while the staff recommends products they are not pushy about me needing to buy it.

I’ve been a Lucky 13 client since 2007 and for a bunch of very good reasons!
The first time I came in was right before my freshman year of college. I was growing out a cut and a dye job I had given myself (yikes) and wanted a real haircut to start school with. I was nervous about bringing my hacked-​up hair to a real salon but the stylist who did my cut just chuckled at my story and told me about her own experiences cutting her hair.
Over the years, I’m pretty sure I’ve had all of their services that apply to my hair and I’ve loved all of them. Full highlights, partial highlights, all-​over color, bang trim, 5 inches off etc etc. All of their stylists are extremely versatile and can take care of you no matter what you need.
I’ve seen nearly everyone that works there but Tejay has been my go-​to stylist since he started. He is really good at taking my vague instructions and tiny pictures on my iPhone and turning them into the exact haircut I was looking for. He’s also talked me out of a few things that I thought I wanted, like layers in the front, to give me the overall look I was going for. He’s amazing!
Only negative bit: I have had a couple experiences over the years where some stylists have taken off more than I wanted so if you are particular about the length, make sure you give exact instructions and bring a photo.
Overall I love Lucky 13 and I look forward to every cut or service I get there!

I was interested in getting a consultation at the salon because I’m new in town and need to find a hairstylist to cut and color my coif. I read good things about this place so I set up an appointment to see Katie.
I received THREE confirmations from the salon about the appointment, all of which were to let me know that if I was more than 10 minutes late for my 7pm spot, I would not be seen. After waiting 15 minutes past 7 with no check in from my stylist, who was busy still cutting hair, I left. My entire appointment was supposed to be 10 minutes long and I noticed she wasn’t going to finish her cut for prob another 5 – 10 minutes in the least. I’m sorry but to me, at least walk over and apologize for running late. I would have understood and probably waited. Or better yet, call me to say you’re running late so I don’t bust my ass to get there on time.
The front desk was apologetic and courteous but womp womp. Guess I’m still on the hunt for a full service salon. Makes me sad because this placed seemed fun.

New to the area and stumbled across this place through Unilocal.Yelpers don’t lie — this place is fantastic! We were able to book an appointment with very little hassle and our stylist was great. She was so friendly and gave us exactly what we wanted — a funky professional hairstyle. The prices are very reasonable too. Will definitely return!
P. S. They have a stamp card… after a certain number of haircuts, your next one is free. Who doesn’t love a free anything?!

I’ve been to a lot of hair salons in Columbus but I keep coming back to the ladies at Lucky13. You can book an appointment online via Facebook. The staff will take their time to listen to you and feel free to bring pictures of what you want done! My cuts have always turned out great. There is limited parking out front — but I always park on one of the street. Prices are extremely reasonable.

Recently I was coming into Columbus from out of town, and scheduled an appointment. Unfortunately, it was cancelled due to the stylists having a family emergency. I’m still so happy with Lucky 13 though, because they were able to squeeze me in on their booked Sunday for an appointment. In fact, the manager came in on her day off just to dye my hair!
