Writing this as we sit in this restaraunt. Second and last time we will EVER come. Waited for over 10 minutes at front door. to be seated .no employees anywhere, and 4 people eating. Waited another 15 minutes for drinks. haven’t seen our waitress since. Apparently there is only one cook for the entire restaraunt. Extremely disappointed. and will never return.

Great hibachi spot. In my opinion it’s not as greasy as other hibachi grills in Columbus. I also love that they will seat you as soon as you come in, and hey don’t make you wait until you have a completely full table.

The food was as good as any other hibachi place we’ve been. The negative is the slow service. There was a HUGE red flag for me. While the chef was joking around with us, he waved his knife in my daughter’s face! Yes you read that correctly. We won’t be back.

Oh mikado, I’ve been there several times. At first I thought it was one of those sarcastic restaurants like dicks last resort because the service is always horrible. There is zero formality to dining there and the wait staff looks upset when you walk in. When I was seated by the hostess she tossed the menus onto the seating area from about 3 ft high so they slammed on the table. Nothing says welcome like a glare as she stares at you to take your drink order without asking. Now with that said the food is AMAZING and very reasonable for a filet and chicken combo. I can deal with«I hate my job» waitress if the food is worth it and the price is right. The décor could definitely use a update and some theming, it feels like a empty warehouse they put hibachi grills in. All In all I’m going to keep visiting and keep an open mind.

This is our go to restraint for Hibachi in the area. I took my parents here when they were visiting from out of town and they had a great time. The Chef was very funny and personable. I will definitely have to bring them back on their next visit to Columbus.

I have been to SEVERAL Japanese Steakhouses. Unfortunately, this is probably my least favorite one that I have been to. The atmosphere isn’t very enticing as soon as you walk in. It is too brightly lit. I would describe their food quality as «junky.» The salad dressing tasted like mayo mixed with something else. The sushi was sloppily put together. Everything seemed to be of cheap, lower quality. I think if this place took a little more pride in the appearance and taste of their food, they would probably get more return visitors. Even our chef said he was hung over. I wouldn’t go back. Was a disappointing experience.

Walked in tonight with 50 minutes until close and the hostess seemed surprised that we wanted hibachi, like it was too close to closing time. After we assured her we wanted hibachi a few times, they sat us. We felt unwelcomed, so we left. We went to Daruma instead. Go there.

I have been to Mikado several times and never had a bad experience. But today was extra special. We had a chef named Mop and he was super friendly. We went for lunch and it was just my family at the grill. He could tell my son who is 4 with ASD and has sensory sensitivity was having a hard time. We were sharing our meal with our son so he went to the back and got our son steamed rice so he could eat right away. He didn’t use fire since our son dislikes it. He chopped up some of the chicken and veggies extra small for our son too. Just above and beyond. He was awesome! The food was amazing. Great prices too!

We went to this place very excited looking for good beer good sushi but much to our dismay we were disappointed when they didn’t have some of the things that we inquired about. Overall the service was kind of biased for us since we got the new girl. Food was decent however we would try another place before coming back to this restaurant.

Really great meal. Chef was fun and made the onion volcano =) had spicy crunchy tuna roll wich was high quality, boyfriend and I both had steak and scallops, scallops were firm and steak was just right, portions were large and prices comparable to other restaurants of the same kind

I went here for lunch on a Sunday around 11:30AM. My experience correlates with the other reviews; it’s not that busy and the hostess could be more hospitable and service-oriented. I ordered the Pick Two Combo(Filet Mignon & Chicken — WHICHSADLYDOESNOTINCLUDESHRIMPAPPETIZER), which was $ 14.50(slightly more than House of Japan which is about $ 12 and DOES include a shrimp appetizer). When looking at the menu, I noticed dinner seemed like the better value once I looked at the menu(would be around $ 18 with a shrimp appetizer and possibly a little larger portions). With what I ordered, I was given the standard soup(salad was the other choice), soft drink, and vegetables. The vegetables were awesome, since I was able to pick what I wanted out of bean sprouts, broccoli, carrots, onions, and mushrooms. The quality was pretty good and comparable to other typical Japanese steakhouses, although the steamed rice portion was definitely larger than House of Japan. The chef was your typical cheesy joke type that you would get at Genji, though food was well prepared. Bottom line: Because I am more of the type to choose with a higher emphasis on value, I would pick here for dinner, rather than lunch. I would rather have House of Japan during lunch hours, but would come here if I had to pick a Japanese steakhouse during dinner hours.

Visited this place for the first time last night.(Saturday at 7pm) Upon walking in it was clear that they were understaffed. There was a family that walked in just before us and was seated at the remaining four seats of the ONLY grill that had people at it. We were seated alone and got the impression we would be there for a LONG time. After waiting about 5 minutes we placed our drink order, another 5 minutes to get it. We caught a chef who peeked his head out to say«wow we have people here»… Another bad sign. He actually ended up cooking our food before the people who were sat before us(good for us, bad for them) Food was actually pretty decent… But the décor and staff were subpar. We only saw one hostess, one waitress, and one cook… On a Saturday night at 7pm! Several people came in while out meal was being cooked… But because they cooked our meal first. those people were seated at a third table… Two of the three couples walked out when they realized that it was going to take a LONG time to get their food. The family who walked in before us couldn’t have been more trashy though… The kid kept farting every 5 minutes and ended up having to check his pants after one. The dad kept burping which made the kid laugh, and made him do it even more. The mom and daughter were using profane language the whole time. While not the fault of the restaurant… A GOOD restaurant would have had a staff member or manager politely say something to them. All in all it wasn’t a good experience. If it wasn’t for the terrible staff, and atmosphere… We would go back. But as it stands… It seems like it is more of a front than an actual restaurant.

Being a fan of sushi, I decided to check this place out. The first thing I noticed was that I was one of 5 people in the restaurant, right at lunch time, and the other four were a single group. A single hostess/waitress(the only staff member I could see) sat me at a booth and handed me a menu. The menu was a little complicated to understand and the prices seemed a little bit high to me. I asked if they had any lunch specials, and she pointed to one small square on the menu that listed four things which prices and no details. I ordered the scallop hibachi lunch with the salad and steamed rice. The salad was pretty good, it came with some sort of onion ginger sauce, and the lettuce was good consistency. The hibachi lunch was stir fry and while it tasted pretty good, I wasn’t sure what to do with the steamed rice or the two bowls of sauce that they brought me. Did I put the sauce on the rice? Was I supposed to add the rice to the stir fry? I wasn’t sure. The scallops were perfectly cooked and the vegetables were delicious as well. Until leaving, I didn’t have any issues with the food quality, but about five or ten minutes later, I started to have some stomach issues. I won’t be returning. If you’re looking for a good sushi bar, I suggest Wild Ginger Asian Fusion, which is one block over next to Giant Eagle.

This is the only hibatchi we will eat now. The salad dressing is not to bitter. The yum yum is the best ever. The ginger is edible where as the other places I couldnt eat it. The waitress changes but the cooks are so nice!

This place is a diamond in the rough. The price is good, the portions are large, the sushi is awesome, and he chefs are a hoot. Let me start off by saying I’ve never seen this place busy but don’t let that scare you away. The waitress/hostesses are ok could be better but the chefs are great. One reason I feel that they are never busy is the location. It’s right off hustling Hilliard-Rome rd. but it faces the wrong way. It faces walmart and is slotted next to the movie theatre. I also do not feel they market their business well. There isn’t even a sign that eats people on the road know they’re there. If they were to advertise on the electronic billboard above McDonalds they might get more business. I’ve been here a few times but I’m going to write about my last visit. My girlfriend and I attended to celebrate our being together foe 4 years. We were seared immediately and they were not busy. We ordered the spicy tuna and California roll as appetizers and were amazed at the quality and taste of the sushi for the price(somewhere around $ 6 per roll). Our dinner order was taken promptly and we were glad to finally get Luis for our hibachi chef. He was great and we laughed so hard at his antics and were thrilled by is skills. The portions were huge., we both took more than half our food home for delicious leftovers. The food was delicious. I will definitely be back. Give this westside gem a shot. The food in great and the portions are large.

I agree with SW, I have been here 3 times and each time, Louis has been our cook and the food has been really good. They serve the biggest shrimp ive seen yet from a Hibachi place in Columbus. The soup and salad are nothing to write home about, and both our pretty blah, but Louis really can cook it up. Fried rice is really good, and the veggies dont appear to be fresh, but they are ok. The filet they give you for lunch is huge, like 12 – 14 oz serving for lunch. My friend that ordered was shocked they give you that big of a portion for lunch. Scallops are really well done, never burnt and taste very good-Not mushy at all. The lunch specials they have are really good– Pick any 2 entrees for 14 bucks. Each time i have been, the place has been pretty dead for lunch on a weekend, I am not sure if it can make in the economy.

Not a great experience. Not even a good one. We went in last night(Saturday) around 8pm, expecting it to be busy. There were 4 people in the whole place. That should have been a sign. The hostess was obviously inconvenienced by having to seat us, for it took away from her flirting time with another teenager at the bar… Sat down, placed our order and waited. And waited. We took a good look at the grill while we were waiting, and it was not cleaned very well by whoever cooked on it last. Finally, a chef who we couldn’t understand, came out to start cooking. Luckily, he cleaned it some more before he put any food on it. I think he was afraid of the grill too. As he was putting our food on our plates, the appetizer that we ordered when we sat down, steamed dumplings, came out. They were not good at all. Undercooked and really chewy… I ordered my steak medium, and it was beyond well. The scallops were burnt on one side, and some of the veggies were almost raw still. I guess if the chef wasn’t more concerned with watching the basketball game over our shoulders on the tv at the bar, he would have done a better job. I would have said something, but as soon as he was done, he disappeared. Heck, everyone disappeared. No way will I go back here.

Sadly, I had to lower my rating of my favorite weekend hangout, Mikado sushi bar. The sushi chef Ben, the cute waitress Rey, the server Denny, everyone left over a fight with management. We used to go in there and everyone knew us, the chef knew how I like my sushi and knew what to make my son and everyone treated my little boy like a celebrity. That was a big deal to my son. He loved going in there. Now the only one left who knows us is Ellen the bartender. And while that’s okay, every place has staff changes, the new staff have ruined everything. We went in for our usual visit and the new waiter sat us down, got us our drinks and never came back. He forgot we were over there in the sushi bar. The sushi chef just ignored us. He was too busy to notice that two people had come in and not been given a menu or any food. I finally had to go and ask Ellen to get someone to wait on us and she ended up doing it herself. Then the sushi chef didn’t quite get the order right, didn’t quite understand Ellen’s instructions, charged us for things Ben didn’t, didn’t make my son’s sushi the way he likes it; it just wasn’t a good experience. The food was still delicious and the ambiance is nice, but the experience just wasn’t the same. I think I’m going to try the other sushi bar in town. This is what happens when you have employees who get it, but managers who don’t.
