NTB – National Tire and Battery

But loves the service when it was open, for what it’s worth.

I love the new atmosphere. The smelly tires are gone, now it’s more like a coffee house inside.
Have got my tires and service here for several years. They always accommodate my schedule easily. I am amazed that tires are $ 122 a piece, but that ‘s not their fault.
The service is okay, I’m not sure they got my steering wheel straight the last time I had an alignment and the smoke smell was a bit annoying
The time before that they lost one of the screw-​caps on one tire, so I’ve been without it ever since. Curious, that a tire shop couldn’t provide a cap when they had it back seven months later this last time, and still didn’t replace it. What is it, a nickel?

Came to NTB with a flat tire that needed to be replaced. They first checked to see if I had purchased road hazard insurance through Firestone (where I had received the tire). I had, so they offered to put my donut tire on so I could make it to Firestone where it could be replaced for free. Not only did they save me money– they didn’t charge me for the quick tire change either! Thanks NTB! I will definitely return when I’m in a pinch again!

They were very friendly and quick with the service (new brakes and an oil change) but the price was extremely high. I was shocked, but was in a pinch and needed the repairs done that day.
HOWEVER — I needed the brakes done before a long drive, and halfway through that long drive I noticed clouds of smoke coming out of my back driver’s side tire. Apparently, the brake was installed incorrectly and it caused some damage to the car and tire.
This happened just a week after my boyfriend took his car to a different NTB location and had an issue with the service. He ended up having to take his car to the dealership to fix some damage done by NTB.
Overall, I am not pleased with my NTB experience at the Long Street location, and in general.

I really can’t say enough about this location and their staff. The first time I came in to get new brakes and rotors. They worked with me on the cost and matched competitor pricing I saw. The second time I came in to get my tire patched and they were having system issues and therefore didn’t charge me. They were very friendly, helpful, and honest and fair. I would absolutely recommend them!

This isn’t the type of place you *want* to go to… but if you must, it’s 5 stars all around.
After my car battery died (damn you, Winter 2014!), I got a jump and drove straight to NTB. Thanks once again, Unilocal,for helping me find a great spot. Stuart tested my battery and suggested that I get a new one. Mine was in bad shape.
The entire process was super simple and straight to the point. Stuart found a battery for my car at a nearby store, ordered it, and gave me a complete price quote. I was totally surprised that it didn’t cost me an arm and a leg, and there were no surprises or hidden costs.
Next up, he gave me a time estimate and promised to call me when it was done. And sure enough, NTB delivered. I never expected getting a new battery would be such a pleasant experience! NTB was super friendly and professional, and they explained everything to me along the way.

It is close to impossible to get any automobile service on a Saturday in the city. Most places don’t have mechanics in and they are not able to offer loaner cars on Saturdays.
We traveled to Columbus for the marathon all the way from Chicago. After successfully making it our mode of transportation notified us that the engine needed checking. To go along with the warning light coming on the engine shook when being driven. It was very difficult to find any kind of service within the city limits. But we were lucky enough to find that this NTB had a mechanic that could service our vehicle.
Within a couple of hours and a few hundred dollars later we were all repaired and set to drive smoothly again. Without NTB we would have been stuck in Columbus until Monday to get service.

Watch these guys. This is the second time I had my car in and they simply didn’t do the job completely. «Oil change» but they didn’t change the filter. «Tire rotation» and nothing was done. I marked my filter and tires to check their work as they let me down last time. I am glad I did. They promptly fixed the issue, but c’mon. How many other folks are getting half done jobs too that simply aren’t as paranoid as I am? I had them do my front brakes and rotors as well this time. You had better believe I am pulling the tires/​calipers off at home tonight to check the rest.

I’ve gone to a few tire shops in Columbus and have had horrible experiences (Tuffy on 5^th was horrible when I had bad brakes. I actually heard them say «We can charge her whatever –her parents will pay for it anyway» –NOT true.
So, when I had an issue with a tire leak yesterday I took my time combing through Unilocal to find a good shop. I called around to 4 of the tire shops in my area Saturday morning to find that they could all help me –but not until Monday. I then called NTB and Rob answered. He was AMAZING.
It was 1pm, and he promised me he’d get it done that day (despite them closing at 3pm). I dropped off my truck and the entire NTB team was great. Rob greeted me with a smile and explained what was likely wrong with my truck. I have never had such great service.
Rob stayed late to finish up the tire fix and oil change. Any other shop would have just phoned me and let me know it wouldn’t be done until the next day, but NTB stayed open another 45 minutes and made sure they delivered on what they promised me –and they did it for FREE.
I am INCREDIBLY happy with my experience –and I don’t say that often. I will never go to a shop other than this NTB in Columbus again.

I would have given 5 stars but I had a very expensive/​dangerous experience.
I work downtown, so any place that offers vehicle drop off and service while I am at work is a plus. I routinely come to this NTB for oil changes, because even if they don’t have the special 17.99 change and filter posted, you can talk them into giving you that price. Another good experience is they lowered the cost of my new set of tires to match Costco’s prices.
The bad. I came in Memorial weekend because my brakes were squealing and I needed an oil change. They changed my oil and informed me that I needed a new serpentine belt (which was true). But when I asked about my breaks they said they were fine. For weeks I drove with a horrible braking sound. Turns out I needed new brakes. By the time I went to Midas, one of my caliphers had been eroded away. Something that routinely would have cost 200 bucks (I guess) became a 575 dollar ordeal.
If you get something checked out here you might need a second opinion.

I want to start this review by saying that the low score is not for the quality of the alignment they did, nor is it based on the demeanor of the service manager who helped me out, Matt. The people I talked with were great to work with, and extremely polite and knowledgeable, and my car was aligned properly.
My low review is based on the enormous greasy hand print on the B pillar of my interior (right below where the seatbelt hangs), the greasy feel of the back my steering wheel, and the unmistakeable odor of the grime from working around wheels and tires. My car previously had a very neutral interior smell. Nothing good or bad, but now it reeks.
If the technician had just taken a minute to wash his hands before moving the car, this whole thing could have been avoided.
There are also some greasy/​oily fingerprints on different parts of the interior trim.
While I keep some things strewn about my car, I am anal about keeping the trim pieces clean and free of any residue. This alignment is now going to cost me an afternoon of cleaning and detailing.
I plan to call NTB tomorrow once they open to see if they will be willing to do something to rectify the situation, and will update my review accordingly.

Update: I stopped back in and showed the grease prints to Matt, who then showed them to his store manager. They both agreed that the fabric was too delicate for them to treat it themselves. They told me that if I took it to a local detailing shop and brought them back the bill, they would cover the cost. While it shouldn’t have happened in the first place, I couldn’t be happier with how they’re handling the situation.

Final update: I stopped back in about a month after the original situation happened. I had finally been able to get the interior cleaned up, and made time to take the receipt for the work in to Matt. He credited the cost of the detail work to my credit card right on the spot with no problems whatsoever. Kudos to NTB and the way they handled the situation. I’ve been to plenty of other places throughout the years who would have been far less friendly to deal with in a similar situation! I still plan to keep my 4 star rating, since it’s something that shouldn’t have happened in the first place, but the way they handled it left me with a feeling like they actually cared, and I have no qualms about bringing my car back to them to be serviced.

Friendly, fast service, and they often have a great deal on an oil change. If you have car trouble or need maintenance, this is the place to go in downtown Columbus.

We ended up with brake trouble in Columbus in the middle of a cross-​country road trip, and this NTB (and especially the manager, John) could _​not_​have been more helpful.

I took my car here on Friday for an oil change because I did not have time to get it to my regular mechanic.
I used this place twice before and was able to get a quick and easy oil change at a low price.
This time I needed some other things. My windshield wipers were torn and one flew off on my way there so I knew I was committed to gettting that done.
Later in the afternoon NTB called to let me know there were some other repairs. I cross checked all of their comments with my regular mechanic and actually got a good deal on the work.
This is a good place for repairing little wear and tear items on your car in addition to your regualry scheduled oil change.
