Our two locations offer a full range of hair cut, color and styling services as well as make up applications and lessons. Both locations carry Aveda’s complete line of skin, hair and air care products. Our Upper Arlington location also features a full service spa and nail room where our experienced estheticians provide a wide selection of manicure, pedicure, facial, massage, waxing, and body treatments.

History

Established in 2006.

Nurtur the Salon opened its doors in November of 2006 as an Aveda Lifestyle Salon & Spa. The name «Nurtur» was chosen because it embodies what we’re all about. Our name defines what we do on a daily basis – we nurture our guests and our team members.

The emphasis on the «u» in the Nurtur logo is an expression of our professionals putting our guests first. The «e» in Nurtur was dropped to create a more balanced aesthetic, as we strive to put balance into everyday using Aveda rituals and products.

Ok so after a terrible experience with this place I obviously didn’t learn my lesson… I figured I would give it another shot since its in my neighborhood. First of all the stylist was kind of rude for some reason she acted like I was more of an inconvenience or that she didn’t care much for her job, she did listen to me, though, all I wanted was a simple trim. She ridiculed my hair several times (thanks for your input I’m not paying you to be a critic) my hair was actually very shiny and felt soft before I went in, when she finished drying it it felt like hay it felt awful! She said it was my hair that is course. Oh? Is that so? I know how my hair is. In a nutshell, after 3 bad aveda salon experiences 2 of which being at nurture, and after being a long time supporter of aveda products and services I have lost 100% faith in their stylists and products. I should have went to fiesta or great clips. Thanks!

Let me start with recommending that you go to another salon. The spa services are mediocre at best. My experiences with services at Mitchells are way above this place (I know, I was surprised as well). I’ll never let any of their «stylists» touch my hair ever again. I asked for red, received brown (it’s more devastating than it sounds, have you ever tried to go back to ginger after being dyed chocolate?), the girl that did my hair refused to fix it and told me she gave me the color I showed her. I got the manager involved and the best she was willing to offer was a gift card to come back. I informed her that I live over 2 hours away and that’s what she offered. Unreal. The only thing I liked about my experiences there was the shampoo bed. That’s it. You can get more bang for your buck and better services elsewhere.

I am new-​ish to town and booked an appointment at Nurtur because it’s a convenient location. I booked with a new talent, Sam, and was VERY impressed. Sam warmly greeted me with a «new client gift». She spent time getting to know me and my hair before she took me back for the wash. I so enjoyed the complimentary neck rub and hand massage. They are two of the many reasons I love Aveda.
After washing my hair, Sam chatted me up while cutting my hair. She is perfectly cautious and really tried to understand the exact look I wanted. After she cut my hair, she styled it and even showed me a few flat iron tips.
I highly recommend her and Nurtur.

Lord almighty, make sure you are with an experienced stylist! I was told the ‘new talent’ stylist I saw would do a great job, and it was literally the worst haircut I have ever had in my entire life! She hacked it up so much I needed to buy a wig!
They should never ever allow stylists to hit the cutting floor until they are actually good at what they are doing, what a total disappointment!

Had an appointment tonight at 7:30 pm for a facial while my sister-​in-​law had a 7:45 to get a manicure. My SIL received a call to confirm her manicure, but I did not receive a confirmation call so she called this afternoon to confirm my appointment, which Nurtur did confirmed.
I showed up at 7:15, gave them my name & checked in at the front desk. They offer me a drink & tell me to have a seat & wait for my tech. SIL arrives around 7:35, checks in for her 7:45 manicure appointment & tells receptionist she is paying for my service as well. The receptionist (not the one who checked me in) tells her that my esthetician had an emergency & that they called everyone and canceled her appointments for the day. At which point my SIL pointed out that I was sitting in the waiting area, and they had not communicated that my appointment was canceled… AND they already checked me in!
The receptionist proceeded to tell me they called my phone (no missed call) got a busy signal and left a message. (If you get a busy signal, you can’t leave a message — but thats beside the point.) I had no missed calls and no voicemails. But most importantly, they checked me in when I arrived!
I realize mistakes happen and while the receptionist did apologize but there was no offer of any restitution other than I could make an appointment for next week.
I’m 32 months pregnant and was REALLY looking forward to this. I live two blocks away and have been looking for a good spot that is nearby to have services and a little «me time». This is my first and last visit to Nurtur.

Big fan of Aveda salons in general. I mean, you have to love hair products that actually work and are mostly good for the environment! I particularly like this location because of it’s proximity to Whole Foods and decent clothes shopping (White House Black Market and Talbots). Additionally, big fan of the graduated service fee structure. You can take a risk and try out a newer stylist and pay little. Or pay a little more for someone with more experience. Lastly, can’t beat the value, especially after the complimentary back massage and facial/​hand massage.

NOT FOR ASIAN HAIR
This is my first time getting a hair cut at an American hair salon, and I went straight to an Asian salon to fix it. I have long straight Asian hair and all I needed was a trim. I had a session with a junior hair stylist, who basically cut my hair in a straight line. When I asked her to create layers, she did not know how to do it, even with me explaining what my previous stylists have done. The more she tried, the worse the outcome! I am not sure whether other stylists are trained to how to work with diverse hair types, but I will not take that chance!

I love, Love, LOVE this salon. I started coming to Nurtur about 5 or 6 years ago after a pretty terrible experience with another local Aveda salon. My stylist was double booked and pawned half of my services on to an assistant. Needless to say, the end result was terrible, and I never went back. My first stylist here was wonderful, but she ended up leaving. To keep me as a client Nurtur discounted my next three services and that’s how I found Jaclyn. She is AMAZING! My hair can be pretty difficult. It’s short and fine and does not hold color well. Jaclyn always seems to make my hair look great. She is so friendly, personable, and you can tell she is passionate about the work that she does. After I moved out of state I continued to come back to her on my trips to Columbus for cut and color. Now that I live here again (thank goodness!) I see her about every 8 weeks for my service. My favorite part is getting my hair washed in the relaxing shampoo bed. A mini facial or hand and arm massage are always included for an ultra relaxing experinece. This salon never fails to disappoint, and while some may consider it pricey I feel like it is money well spent!

Just to let all future brides know… be sure to get a trial run of your makeup done here before your wedding day.
I came in for my wedding hair and makeup to be done. I will say my hair was great and looked beautiful. (That’s why I’m giving the 2 stars) But my makeup was horrible! It looked like I got punched in both eyes. I was in tears as I was checking out and instead of making the situation right they just let me leave (even after I said how unhappy I was). Needless to say I was 20 mins late to my own wedding because I had to come home and redo my own makeup, that I had just paid someone else to do!

Nurtur is just right, not too fancy but you still get high quality service. Not every visit is perfect, sometimes the new employees are nervous or inexperienced. The Upper Arlington store needs renovation. However, I have had wonderful haircuts and pedicures there. I donated my hair a few months ago and it was the best experience. My husband gets his haircuts there as well, and he always looks impeccable.

I received an email offering a free trial because I attended a bridal show. When I got to my appointment I was told that it was only a consultation where we just talk about my hair and makeup not a trial where they actually do my hair and makeup. I went home and double checked my email and saw that it did say free trial. I called them and forwarded them the email and they told me that there was nothing they could do because the stylists needed to be paid. I planned my whole day around this appointment and had an appointment to find a veil afterwards. The manager told me that Randi the coordinator would get in touch with me to resolve the issue. That was over a week ago and I have still not been contacted. Being a busy bride, I do not appreciate the wasted time and frustration.

My first, and maybe last, experience with Nurtur did not go well. When my stylist finished, she did not let me see what my head looked like in the mirror; it was only when I came back to the lobby and paid when my wife’s jaw hit the floor. She said there were deep grooves all over my head and it wasn’t evened-​out or consistent at all. My hair is blond and short, and usually not difficult to cut – even the el cheapo places get it right. Nonetheless, we asked for another stylist to fix it and they did, which was a nice gesture but it’s shorter than I wanted it. The first stylist insisted she could cut my hair without a clipper guard, which I thought «Ok» but the results were pretty crappy and unprofessional.

I’ve been going to Nurtur Salon for a year now. I followed my stylist Regina Gunn from Aveda once she graduated in Dec 2013. To say she has worked magic on my hair is the biggest understatement.
On our first appointment I came with a challenge: my hair was so fried, breaking off, and NEON PINK! She has walked me through transitioning back to my natural dark brown safely so not to damage my hair any further.
Her product suggestions have made all the difference in repairing my hair. In fact, it’s in better condition now in comparison to before I dyed it pink. For the record I have naturally curly fine hair and her cuts look great straight or curly. She’s super friendly and I highly recommend her!
Products I use: Aveda Scalp Benefits Balancing Shampoo, Damage Remedy Restructuring Conditioner, & the Volumizing Tonic.

The services were nice and I was really expecting a great cut, but in the end I was not super pleased. I asked for an all around trim and to keep the length, but she trimmed the bottom and then cut one single blunt layer an inch above it. No blending? The front was even worse, as the amount of hair she cut shorter in front was a much thicker layer on the right than on the left. I waited a couple of weeks to see if it grew a little and blended on its own, but it’s still a little strange looking, especially if I do not do anything to my hair. I would come back to get it fixed but after a bad cut I’d rather just move on and go somewhere else.

Awesome brow waxing experience with Mandi. I just had my first appointment at Nurtur and it was excellent! The atmosphere was nice and soothing, my brow specialist was kind, funny, and didn’t talk too much or too little. The products she used smelled good and the wax didn’t hurt at all. She explained clearly what she was doing and why she was doing it. The brow wax cost $ 20, not including gratuity. The whole appointment, from walking in to walking out, took around 15 minutes. I will DEFINITELY be going back to Nurtur to see Mandi for my next brow wax.

The bride gets her hair done here so we were all here for the wedding hair and make up. I liked that you were all seated together in a room to have your hair done at this huge table. It was nice to hang out together. My hair stylist was open to my pics I had and she obliged the hairstyle I wanted and went with it. It looked great.
My make up artist seemed a bit unsure and because I wanted certain things (winged eyeliner), she couldn’t do it with the make up they have. I had brought my own liner and she worked with that, but it was time consuming because she wasn’t use to that make up. I told her she could have told me no, it would have been alright. I had also brought fake lashes with me, but she couldn’t put them on, and no one else was available to do it. I had her use my own mascara since she said theirs isn’t waterproof and I knew mine would last through the day. I thought the bride’s make up looked really awesome, which is most important, and she had a different make up artist. My make up did mostly stay put, so that is good.

My absolute favorite salon in Columbus. Fair prices, always clean and the atmosphere is right. Shannon, who I see, knows how to give a perfect «no hair cut hair cut» so even though it’s technically shorter and healthier I’m not devastated afterwards because of the length change! Also bought my mom a $ 60 gift card here, which she lost and even a month later they were still willing to issue me a new one. Way to go Nurtur! I won’t go elsewhere in Columbus.

Not too shabby. I went here because it was the closest Aveda Salon to my house vs. going Downtown and Short North.
It had been my first visit there in March so, I did not have a preferred stylist when booking. I was ready to go from a dirty blonde back to a lighter blonde since Spring was around the corner.
Once I met Holly, I was telling her about my hair history… when it was last highlighted, cut, etc. After we spoke for about 5 minutes, she said okay, I’m going to go get some stuff to get started. I was a bit curious, because we never got to what I was really looking to do this time around.
She ended up doing a partial high light even though I scheduled a Full-​Highlight. So After I paid $ 120.00 and ended up with something I didn’t want because she didn’t ask I wasn’t too pleased. Although, the partial highlight was done very well, so I wasn’t as upset as what I would normally be if I didn’t get what I asked for. She did ask me how I liked it, so I did say it wasn’t what I wanted and she pretty much just stood there not knowing what to say, haha.
Anyway, I thought I would give them another try and booked, but then I received a 20% discount on a highlight from another Aveda Salon. I gave Nurtur a call to see if by some chance, if they wanted the business to honor the same offer. They said no, so I went to another competitor and will probably stay with them now.
But, it was a pretty good experience all around. Holly was very nice and pleasant to speak with through the time I was getting my hair done, but I was looking for a hair salon to settle down with so it looks like the other Aveda Salon won, haha.

I absolutely love Nurtur the Salon! I lived in Columbus for nearly two years and I was sad to say goodbye to this place when I moved away. Primarily I went to the salon for spa services, but I also went frequently for hair cuts and styling.
From the moment you walk in the door-​you feel welcome. The staff is friendly and very helpful. There is never a long wait once you’ve arrived.
For spa services I went for waxing and mani/pedi’s. I have very sensitive skin and the Aveda products were never harsh or irritating for my skin. If you are looking for a great stylist you must ask for Stephanie. In my opinion she is the best! I always enjoyed our conversations and she did a fantastic job on every service I went for.
As far as hair cuts and stylings go-​I recommend seeing Levy. I have extremely thick hair and after my cuts I always felt like he did a great job managing the madness of my mane. Really great to talk to and always had pointers on styling my hair. He usually specializes in coloring-​so you’ll be in great hands if you are looking for a colorist.
Most hair salons wash and dry your hair for you, but Nurtur goes a step further. With your hair treatment you receive a short back massage and they offer you either a mini facial or a hand massage. It really helps you relax and enjoy the overall experience.
This place is simply wonderful. Tailor your appointments for your specific needs and enjoy a little relaxation!

I’m a longtime customer. I’ve had eyebrow waxes, facials, manicures, hair cuts and highlights. They had a masseuse on staff for a while and I had a Swedish massage. They put your next appointment at the bottom of your receipt. If they have your email or cell phone number they will send you reminders about your next appointment.
When my stylists have received promotions (which increases the price of their services) Nurtur has always told me ahead of time so I’m not hit with sticker shock.
One complaint: when the mani-​pedi room is full of people it can get smelly from the product.
The Good Stuff: A haircut comes with a mini shoulder massage. With highlights you’re offered a choice of mini-​facial or hand massage.
I usually see the same people for the same things. It doesn’t matter if it’s been 8 weeks or 3 months since I’ve last seen them — they are always friendly and easy to chat with.
After an eyebrow waxing I never walk out with redness around my eyes. And during the waxing I never flinch.
When I had a Groupon that I didn’t use for nearly a year and couldn’t get fitted in during the last month the management noted my account. I still got the services at a discounted price.
The one time I had to wait extra long between my highlights and my hair cut they provided me with a deep conditioning service at no extra charge.
In summary, they are pretty awesome.
