History

Established in 2003.

Rafael Barrera and Julie Kean have been working in orthotics and prosthetics since 1991. They established Orthotic & Prosthetic Designs in 2003 and recently opened a second location in Indianapolis to better serve the surrounding community. They are dedicated to providing top of the line orthotics and prosthetics to their patients and in giving back to the local community.

Meet the Business Owner

Julie K. and Rafael B.

Business Owner

Julie is a Prosthetist/Orthotist.Mastectomy Fitter with OPD. Julie believes in customizing each prosthesis to fit the wearer’s needs. She has been in the field for 19 years. A graduate of IowaState University, she completed her prosthetics education with honors at California State University Dominguez Hills. Julie fulfilled her residency requirement at Nevada Limb & Brace in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Rafael is an Orthotist and inventor with OPD, specializing in adult and pediatric bracing. Rafael’s main interest is in pediatric bracing and any other challenging cases. Rafael has been in the field for 23 years. In 2009, he developed and patented the BraceLock, a quick-​disconnect component used in both orthotics and prosthetics to remove the knee section from the leg/​ankle section of the device.
