Sheraton Columbus Hotel at Capitol Square

This Sheraton was real nice and centrally located in DT C-​bus. We dida last minute booking (same evening) & scored an amazing «name your own price» deal. Even considering the 3^rd party, reduced-​rate booking type, they still awarded my SPG points and perks for a nicer room & free H2O btl.
The lobby is very modern and pretty. All facilities we saw were clean and room much updated and spacious! Staff was very friendly and professional. Would definitely stay here again and also recommend.

Stayed here for a wedding weekend. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The valet parking is a bit steep but it’s not hard to find spots on the street or in nearby lots on the weekend.
We had a lovely view of the Statehouse from our room.
Keep in mind the Starbucks located in the hotel has limited hours and the adjacent retail shops and restaurants were closed on Saturday.
We did not eat in the hotel so can’t speak to the food quality. Just a few minutes drive to plenty of eateries and attractions.

The rooms were pretty decent. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. The shower takes about 10 minutes to get past lukewarm. The coffee provided in the room was Starbucks which was nice. The coffeemaker was kind of messy though because the individual coffee pods were too big for the holder. The bar/​restaurant lounge on the 2^nd floor was nice. We didn’t grab food there but it was comfortable. There were a couple of televisions playing the football games. The bartender was extremely nice. There was a loud, obnoxious group of people at a table behind us so we chose to leave. It rained the night we were there so we didn’t venture too far by foot but there are a few bars within walking distance. The valet the night we were there deserves about 1 star. It is $ 25 for overnight and we waited for 10 minutes on the street before we could even pull into the drive. When we finally got to pull in, there were still a bunch of cars and 2 valet attendants standing there socializing. I don’t know if the attendants need to go, or the valet area needs to be larger.

Nice, city hotel. We were in town for the weekend and this one looked like I’d expect from Sheraton and we got what we expected.
Front desk staff was pleasant and seems genuinely sorry for a room key error, so it was not big deal. Room was decently sized and very clean. We stayed club level and the club suite had everything we needed and very friendly staff.
We didn’t eat at the restaurant and the street level Starbuck’s is just a Starbuck’s. Nothing special about it.
My one issue with the place isn’t really even their fault — parking. As a lot of Unilocalers have written, the valet is extremely slow in retrieving your vehicle. I realize due to location of the cars, the traffic, and the one way streets, it takes time. At $ 28 or whatever it is, it’s certainly not worth it. You can park across the street for $ 17 a day and have your car in 2 minutes. The valets also won’t let you use the luggage carts without them taking them to the room. It didn’t bother me too much and our guy was very friendly and helpful, so that’s a positive.
Overall, a nice, clean hotel with good views and one I would return too.

Good place to stay while visiting Columbus for a business trip. Amenities are average and I wouldn’t say there was anything special about this place. I was impressed that they had siggis yogurt at their catered breakfast. That’s my favorite yogurt!

Worst place I’ve ever stayed in.
The HVAC was loud all day and night, and they didn’t change my comforter. I was there for 3 nights! I realized in horror the last morning. Didn’t even have HBO or Showtime smh.
Don’t book it.

Staying here for two weeks on business trip. It’s a fine hotel, but certainly not worth the money. Not a value. I would recommend staying elsewhere for this price.
Friendly staff, good location, and clean premises. However, the décor is very dated. Popcorn ceilings, dark brown wallpaper and carpet, and black furniture. Very dark rooms regardless of windows. There aren’t sufficient power plugs. So, if you are planning on bringing a few devices, like a phone, computer, etc. bring a multi-​outlet adapter. The AC is amped up — very cold! Even after turning off air or turning on heat (which doesn’t work in summer) it is extremely cold. If you visit during the summer pack sweaters and warm pajamas.
Our toilet was running (because it’s really old, the ones they used to make in the 80’s before water efficient toilets were mandated by law) and on the third day actually flooded out the bathroom (not from it being plugged up nor from debris). They were very accommodating and prompt to help us move to another room. Again, very polite and kind staff. But we had a lot of stuff to move, as we are here for two weeks. It was an inconvenience. The toilet in the new room also runs, which is noisy and annoying, but hasn’t overflown yet.
I think this must have been a really amazing hotel back in 1980, but unfortunately it still feels like the 80’s in here. On the website, it says it was established in 2011, but it seems like that might be when Sheraton bought it from another hotel company, because this hotel and décor is certainly much older than that.
Again, it’s an average hotel with nice staff, but certainly not worth the money.

Attended the Columbus Arts festival last weekend and the Sheraton, which we found out is the official hotel of the festival, helped us out in a last minute pinch, when the property we originally booked had a water main break & cancelled all reservations.
We were graciously welcomed when we dropped off our cars and walked in the lobby to check in, the check in process took minutes and we were on our way.
Our room on the 10^th floor was clean, AC worked well, bed was comfortable, got a restful nights sleep. Only qualm was the bed & bathroom linens were pretty warn, yes they do get lots of use in a big hotel, but could have been newer, better quality.

Great, comfortable room. Good view of downtown. Perfect place to end an evening after dinner at De Novo and a drink at Sidebar. Oh, and a bellman who looked like Ryan Johansen. He said he gets that a bit.

Everytime I stay at a Sheraton Hotel I’m always impressed with the customer service and attention to detail used in there design of the lobby and guest rooms.
I suggest becoming a Sheraton club member because you always get the automatic upgrades and added perks during your stay.
This Sheraton had a Starbucks in the lobby that was top notch and made the stay that much more enjoyable. The restaurant was 5 star and top shelf drinks and entrees. Try the steak nasal lions and spiced vegetables. Truly amazing in every way.
I recommend staying here even if it’s out of the way. Well worth a try! :)

This review is for the Sheraton as an event location, not for the hotel itself.
Sweetie and I came for the Ohioana book festival, held in several banquet rooms here. It was a good place for such an event– plenty of room and amenities, clean, easy to find and get around. Parking is right across the street at the Statehouse. Columbus Commons is right nearby if you’re going to an event there. The lobby has comfy chairs and some working areas, plus a Starbucks.
For a conference, trade show, wedding, etc., this would be a nice facility in a prime location.

Nice hotel. Very clean and with in walking distance to many of Columbus’ top attractions. The wifi isn’t the quickest, but it isn’t too bad and very usable. The bathrooms are large and the beds are comfortable. I’m disappointed in their resturaunt. It’s pretty terrible even for a hotel resturaunt. But there’s a full Starbucks in the lobby. Coffee lovers, drink your heart out!

While I believe this may be on of the nicer starwood properties downtown, there are a few other properties in general that are a tad bit nicer. So why do I stay at this location:
(1) Overall, the staff is excellent. Sometimes their desire to be friendly causes slow check-​ins, but when it is your turn, you don’t mind so much.
(2) This property has a club level and I usually take advantage of breakfast and or appetizers in the evening if I make it back in time.
(3) Location as others have been mentioned is pretty decent and when the weather is nice makes for a nice walk into more populated areas of the city.
On the other hand, this hotel really can go from good to great with some slight finishing touches (updated bathroom fixtures, décor, better gym design). Oh how I wish they would, but it’s not enough to keep me away.

Our alumni association recently held its Hall of Fame reception and ceremony at the Sheraton Capitol Square. This review does not cover individual rooms, guest services or bar/​restaurant.
I worked directly with room, catering and A/​V services. They are a very buttoned-​up group from start to finish. Mine was a relatively small group (130 guests) so ²⁄₃ of the Governor’s ballroom became our choice. We held the reception in the lobby area outside the ballroom then opened the doors to seating (15 ten-​round tables) with speaker’s riser, two podiums with mics, one handheld mic for audience participation, screen and projector for powerpoint presentation.
Everyone was great to work with on the project. We enjoyed butler-​passed foods, had cash bar service and a veggie, cheese and crackers table for attendees. The catering staff put together the menu (standard but delicious, coconut baked shrimp, chicken, and other nice warm foods). Each time I requested a table or chair set-​up it was done. The A/​V team knew answers to things when we asked them.
A couple notes. Elevators to that area were difficult to locate and we needed on for a 92-​year old attendee. The valet car-​park area is very tight. The staff hustles but on a busy evening my bet would be on the time clock running awhile before your car appears. Congested.
Location, location, location… the Sheraton Capitol Square also served as one of our company’s clients for the 2013 Presidents Cup. With Columbus Commons being an adjacent site, this is very convenient and very nice view.
I’ll take groups back to the Sheraton Capitol Square. Yes!

Exemplary Service
This was the most consistent A+ service throughout. The check-​in desk staff all had bright smiles. The server in the lounge had a smile and was friendly. The room service was discrete and observant (left extra shower gel without being asked). The Club Floor rooms were great and I loved the upgraded elements. All around A+ for the service and attitude for the employees. Would definitely recommend again.

When I search for a hotel in a moderate sized city and immediately see the «Call» word next to just about every option, I get worried. I get worried that I’ll have to either pay a) an exhorbitant amount of money for an even «decent» hotel room — if said room is even available or 2) I’ll have to stay miles and miles outside of the city center in a random motel. No thanks.
Thus, I wasn’t thrilled paying $ 280/​night for this hotel stay during my last trip to Cbus, but I truly didn’t have any other nearby option. Let’s roll down the pros and cons…
The Good:
–Starbucks in the lobby
–Friendly staff
–Comfy beds and nicely appointed rooms
–Modern décor
–Choice toiletries that include shave cream, shampoo/​condo, body wash, lotion, mini shower loofah, nail kit, mouth wash, soap
–Keurig in room
–Club rooms are spacious and offer a nice for additional snacks and continental breakfast food
–Jeni’s ice cream available in the lobby cooler
The Meh:
–That price was craaaaazy
–Location is decent but facing a busy street so grabbing a ride of any kind can be on the challenging side
–Elevators are on the slow side
–Room service options are lackluster at best
While this wouldn’t be my first choice for a Columbus hotel, it provided the necessary means for a comfortable night’s stay.

Like others have mentioned… the beds are comfy, the rooms are spacious and the location is in the smack dab center of the city. And the refurbishments are nice. So that is all good.
The lounge sucks. Well actually the service sucks and the food sucks, the lounge itself is decent.
The staff totally blows. The front desk is a bit surly. I don’t know if they have more than one luggage cart, but if they do, they are missing. They have a bellhop who will «put your name on the list» to come get your crap but how about just having more carts??? The valet guys are nice, but get your name on that list too because it takes a while. They like to charge for everything. $ 10/​day for crappy internet, $ 23/​day for valet, $ 10 for a fridge. Sorry, but if I am here for 2 weeks, you can probably throw a few of those things in.
Also the housekeeping is terrible.
So yeah, it sucks.

This is, by far, one of the best options for Downtown business hotel!
Large modern rooms and hallways. Great linens. Nice furniture in rooms. Towels are good. Bed is very comfy. Alarm clock is great quality.
The second floor has a large and comfortable lounge and dining area — I love it!
I always got my coffee off-​site from here…

On MON/​TUE catch the happy hour sushi specials down the street at Rishi Sushi Kitchen & Bar.
On WED/​THU, at 7:30, catch a $ 4 movie at the absolutely beautiful Ohio theatre — this is on the same block — this is a MUST DO.
For coffee/​breakfast/​lunch, go to Au Bön Pain — it is ½ block away, or Tim Hortons a bit further, or if you are really –SERIOUS– about your coffee, go to Café Brioso.
For cocktails or a bite to eat, go to Gay street — tip top — 2 blocks away — just a bit further than Au Bön Pain.
Or go to the establishments across from the Greyhouse station — El Camino Inn is one of them,
For dinner — well, I haven’t found anything –great– yet, so keep looking.
Columbus has a lot of cocktail bars with good prices, and multi-​level parking garages.

Nice hotel, very clean and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The gym is on the 22^nd floor and has an awesome view of downtown the 2^nd floor bar has decent food and friendly bartenders.
It’s probably not the best deal in town price-​wise but I wanted a location that was walkable to all the places I needed to get to. Besides ‘overpriced’ in Ohio is still cheaper the 90% of most other places.
My only complaint was the lack of a vent/​fan in the bathroom, luckily my sht doesn’t stink but you’re probably not as fortunate.

My review is for the restaurant only. We stopped in because it was close to the theatre and the rolling rain storms are not kind to dress clothes.
We were seated by the hostess whom we told we were stopping for a drink and dessert before a show at the Ohio. We waiting ten minutes before the bartender noticed no waitress had servers us and took our drink order. We waited another ten minutes before flagging down our «server» (whom only stopped by to refill the water the bartender provided us) to order our dessert.
The bartender poured generously on the glass of port wine I ordered. The dessert ordered was fine (it was a brulee, but it was really cold as if it wasn’t torched fresh).
On our way out we passed a sad looking wine cabinet that only had two bottles in it. The rest of the restaurant seemed nice, but more as a bar to cater to the hotel guests, and not the fine dining experience they were trying to make it out to be. It was pretty darkly lit as well, matching the drab rainy day outside. It’s also confusing to have to take a roundabout escalator or elevators to reach the restaurant itself.
The dessert and drink was acceptable. The neglectful service was not. I will not be returning with other fine dining options well within walking distance.
