Steven’s Catering

I was served by Steven’s Catering this past Friday at the Amelita Mirolo Barn for my husband and my wedding reception.
I contacted Steven after getting quotes from a few other businesses in Columbus that I wasn’t completely satisfied with. Communication was great between calls and e-​mails. Always a quick and clear response which was greatly appreciated. Steven met with me a few months before the reception and helped plan out the reception from top to bottom which was SUCH a relief for an unexperienced wedding planner! He provided a huge dinner sample which made a great evening for my husband, his parents, and myself. Our linens were dropped off to the barn the day before which made set up and decorating very convenient.
The service at the reception was outstanding. Food and drinks were great and a number of our guests commented on the remarkable bartender, servers, and Steven.
The price was great and fair– I actually felt good about it!
I am very content with my experience in chosing Steven’s Catering!

There are not enough kind words for this company! Yes, I did have to meet with him to get a quote. HOWEVER, that was a lifesaver! We explained that we were working on a small budget and with very picky eaters. We went over options, and Stevens was the only caterer willing to WORK with us. All the other caterers I contacted just gave me their entrée list and prices and did not seem flexible or even interested in my vision for the wedding.
Steven met my husband and I at a local coffee shop and we explained our vision. Steven told us that our budget, which other caterers stated simply was not enough for 100 people, was enough for an entrée, vegetables, salad, pasta side, and additional appetizers and desserts! We were completely shocked. Then he offered to make us a sample package to taste the food before our final decision.
My parents and my husband went to pick up the food and Steven personally met them and even gave them a tour. They were so impressed with how clean and professional everything was! When we got home, we expected 1 – 2 servings of each item to try and were going to order a pizza to tide us over. We opened the bags and there were 4 – 6 servings of each item — including the entrée! We ate like kings that night and loaded up the refrigerator. The food was AMAZING. We were astounded again.
The night of the wedding, Steven took care of everything for us. He brought linens and helped set everything up, kept checking on us throughout the night, and personally released tables to the buffet. The bartender who came with him was outstanding as well. As my husband stood milling about before the ceremony, the bartender approached him and asked him what we wanted in our hand as soon as it was done. Sure enough, he brought us too Yeunglings as soon as we were done and we skipped the line! Also, my dad asked him for a drink before the ceremony and he apologized and said, «I’m sorry but I’m only allowed to serve the bride and groom’s parents right now.» My father said, «That’s great, because I AM the father of the bride!» They both had a good laugh out of it. Everyone was raving about the food, «not your typical wedding food, MUCH better», and the bartender all night. I’m so happy I gave Stevens a try.

I have to agree with another post on here. I never had the chance to sample the food either because Steve’s customer service skills do not seem to exist. We originally contacted them because their website mentions how much attention to detial they have and how superior their customer service skills are. Well, I have the e-​mail correspondence and telephone log to prove just how unexceptional they are.
We contacted Steve on June 4^th with all the details necessary to provide us with an initial quote. We included the date, the number of people, the location, and the type of services we were looking for. 2 days later I received a response asking the date of the wedding and to give them a call. I responded with the date and left a message for Steve. On June 11, I followed up via email because he never responded. On or about June 17^th Steve finally called me back of course apologizing and this is where the fun begins.
Despite all of the necessary information being detailed in my original email, I had to explain again what we were looking for. Steve suggested that we meet so he could go over the menus and possibilities. At this point, we are not looking to waste our time or a caterer’s time, so were initially interested in getting some quotes to get a sense of whether they were in the ballpark ofwhat we were willing to spend. (some caterer’s we have come across were simply out of our league immediately, so we figure why waste time).
At this point Steve proceeds to tell me he prefers to sit down with people and work with what they are willing to spend rather than provide a quote. I explained we would rather get an idea of what he charges (obviously just an initial quote, nothing firm) and to see a proposal before giving our budget. He gets defensive and after lecturing me about that not being his business practice with 20+ years in the business, he says he will send me something and then hangs up. somewhat rudely.
So here we are a week later, no quote and I email again. Mind you, he never responds, but instead has his employee Mary respond. She responds about an hour later saying «Steve left me a message and asked me to let you know that you can move forward with your planning. It doesn’t seem that our business practices meet your needs so we will remove ourselves from your catering bid process.»
So, actually asking for a bid up front to get a quote before sharing how much you are willing to spend is against their business practice… interesting. On top of that, perhaps after 20+ years of experience, you shoudl learn the number one rule of customer service… be honest and return your prospect’s correspondence!
Hope this helps someone else avoid spending more than they need to or the hassle of dealing with a company who has no customer service skills.

Let me tell you 1 star is generous! If I could give this jerk negative stars I would!!! My mom and I met with him to cater my wedding and he shows up with cat hair all over him. Then when we asked questions about menu options he was very vague and wouldn’t give us any ideas or opinions. When we asked for a proposal he said, «yeah, I will get it for you but I can tell you it won’t be today or tomorrow.» Almost a week later he sends me a proposal. By this time I’ve already met with several other caterers, received proposals and tastings. When he called me I told him we signed with another caterer he hung up on me!!! Then when I called him back to tell him I didn’t appreciate him hanging up on me he wouldn’t take me call. Talk about a low life catering company. This jerk off doesn’t even deserve to be in business. TRUST ME, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!

To be fair-​I never had a chance to even sample the food… So please keep that in mind. It’s not the food I’m rating, it’s the customer service. Basically I’m planning a wedding in OH from VA and its a little challenging. When I registered with
(awesome website by the way) Steven’s Catering automatically emailed me. I responded with a few simple questions (how far do they travel? Pricing? Etc.). Their response was vague and short and requested more information from me which I immediately responded with… and that was the last time I’ve heard from them… They have my email, address, and phone number so I really don’t understand it. Maybe it’s normal for caterers to drop off the face of the earth when someone is about to employ them? To be honest I should consider myself lucky… If I had hired them they may have dropped off the face of the earth again when I really needed them.
