Specialties
Strategic Asset Management, Inc. is a Registered Investment Advisory firm with a specialty in preserving capital during significant market downturns.
History
Established in 1981.
Strategic Asset Management, Inc., formerly known as Hamilton, Flower & Kell, Inc., and Hamilton, McKewen & Flower, was founded May 1, 1981 in Upper Arlington, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus. Initially, the firm was a broad based financial planning and investment management firm. In the early years, it also had a specialty niche of consulting with dentists in managing their practices. As the years past, the firm gradually became more specialized in the investment management arena. In 1987, our investment management division successfully removed all client exposure to the U.S. equities on Friday, October 16, the day before Black Monday (Crash of 87). This effectively protected our clients from a 24% loss in one day, leading to an increased interest in our services. Shortly thereafter, the decision was made to specialize in our investment management services exclusively.

Business Owner
Jim Flower was a founding principal of Strategic Asset Management, Inc. in 1981. Jim is credited with establishing the proactive asset protection model of investing, which we have used since the firm’s inception, and has been the cornerstone of our investment management services. It is noteworthy that this style of investing was almost unheard of back in the 80’s and 90’s. It has become more popular in the industry as market declines and advances have become steeper and a little more frequent in the last 10 – 15 years.
Jim graduated from The Ohio State University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree in business and finance. He also earned the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation in 1985.
Before founding the firm in 1981, Jim spent two years at the financial planning firm of McCloy & Associates in Columbus, Ohio. Jim is a specialist in technical analysis and spends much of his time analyzing market trends and back testing variations of the firm’s proprietary investmen
