Description

Specialties

SwingColumbus is the heart of swing dancing in Columbus, Ohio. As a not-for-profit organization, our sole purpose is to share swing dancing with all of Central Ohio.

We offer lessons every Thursday night and dancing every Wednesday night. On the 3rd Saturday of each month we host our monthly dance which brings in dancers from all over Ohio.

Each year in May we organize a Lindy and Blues Exchange that is attended by over 100 dancers from all over the Midwest. In October we hold our annual Swing Dancing DJ Battle and Workshop Weekend that hundreds of dancers from all over the US and Canada attend for a full weekend of classes and dancing.

Our events never require a partner and are filled with fun and welcoming people. Come join us for great music, wonderful dancing and fantastic people.

History

Established in 2002.

SwingColumbus is not so much an organization as it is a community. It evolved as an affiliation of Lindy Hoppers around 2002, when the previous leadership of the Columbus Lindy Hop scene moved away. A group of dancers met, agreed to collaboratively organize events and lessons, and began combining their resources and talents to create a cohesive community of swing dancers in Columbus.

SwingColumbus is at heart a community-driven collaboration of people who just love to dance. All of the organizers volunteer their time to run dances, teach workshops, DJ, maintain the web site, and communicate with the public about upcoming events. SwingColumbus is a not-for-profit organization and all income from events is used to keep swing dancing growing in Central Ohio. Respect, friendship, and generosity are the norm. Doesn’t that sound like the sort of group you’d like to be part of? Come join us!
