Tommy’s Pizza

Wow. And I used to categorize this pizza place as one of my favorites in Columbus. Went there tonight for pick up and ordered a chef salad and all the way pizza. When I came home I opened my salad and it was incorrect. Opened my pizza and there was no sausage. Called the pizza place which told me to come back and bring my food so they can verify. Brought it back in– they remade it once I got there. And then told me the pizza was correct??? Because the sausage was very small. Give me a break. This place is no longer a go to pizza place– I hope you all think of the poor customer experience before you venture here.

Worst customer satisfaction ever! Rude and self righteous. Ordered sausage pizza and large salad to go. Went home and salad and pizza was wrong. Called and they said to bring back and replaced salad with correct order and said sausage was on pizza in small pieces. What a joke ! Had me waiting another 15 minutes to get my order. Been here twice… first time and last!!!

Dirty. Crowded. Dated.
And on top of that the employees are joyless, bitter people. Rude doesn’t cover this lack-​luster service.
Didn’t even stay to eat. Wouldn’t eat in that filthy dive. And I like dives.

Amazing pizza! As soon as you walk in, the pizza smell hits you — this is a true pizzeria. They remind me of Donatoes with square slices and thin crusts. I got the large pepperoni pizza and it was very similar to Donatoes pepperoni (so if you’re that, you will like this). The pepperoni and mushroom is also delicious and loaded with items — all the mushrooms!
If you are looking for a simple pizza (no fancy hipster or Italian restaurant pizzas here) then you MUST COME HERE. It made me very happy. My local Cbus friends are extremely fond of it and I know that I definitely want to come back again soon!

Tommys has very good expensive pizza. They have no respect for their customer’s time and will happily let 20 people stand around for an hour to pick up a pizza. Tonight I was told my carry out would be ready in an hour and at an hour and 20 minutes they had not started my order. I had them tear up the ticket. Lots of pizza places nearby that are quite good and deliver. Tommys takes their clientele for granted.

This was our first time coming to Tommy’s. After hearing great things about it for the past couple of years living here we decided to finally try it out. What a huge disappointment.
We got a 15 inch sausage pizza with fries and onion rings as appetizers. First off, the appetizers came after the pizza. At that point it’s no longer an appetizer it’s a side. It should not take as long as a pizza to cook and bring out to us. The apps were very basic. Which is fine. For 3 bucks you get what you pay for.
The pizza was mediocre at best. It wasn’t bad but again, no where remotely impressive about it. Especially for the price. 17 bucks for a 15 inch? No thank you.
The worst was the service. Keep in mind, we came here at 2. It was not busy at all. The service was soooo slow. Like I mentioned already, apps came after the pizza. Pizza came about 15 minutes after we ordered which Is normal for a pie. Not normal for appetizers. We finished our drinks and waited for our waiter to come over and check on us which was a rare occassion. He finally does and me and asks if we want refills. Yes please. It took him close to 10 minutes to finally give us our refills. Which by the way, was only because another person had to remind him that we were still waiting for them despite him repeatedly passing our table.
Once we were finally got done eating. We wanted to box everything up for later. Well that took a good while because our waiter again, never decided to check up on us. I finally just got up and asked him can we have a box. Paid at the counter and left the building with no intention of ever coming back.
This place was a huge disappointment for us. A lot of people said how this was supposed to be the best pizza in town. Honestly, that claim is nuts. This is no where the best pizza. We feel we wasted our time and 30 bucks at this joint when that could have gone to a much better, a much cheaper pizza. Giant Eagle market district has 16 inch pizzas for 8 bucks down the street. I’ll take that any day over this poor excuse of a pizza joint. Heck, Pizza Hut is across the street.
I feel cheated out of 30 bucks and pizza should never make me feel that way.

We have order from tommy pizza for probably 25 years at least. I live on the other side of town almost to Easton. I ordered a half baked pepperoni black olive and half onion pizza. When I arrived they said oh sorry we make it I said no problem. Will just reheat it when I get home. I arrived home to find out that my pepperoni magically turned into mushrooms. My husband doesn’t eat mushrooms. I called tommy they said the only one thing that could do for me is if I drove back across town and they would give me a full refund. That’s how they treat loyal customers well they lost my loyalty I will not be returning.

My friend and I ate here for the first and last time tonight. I had heard good things about their pizza, it had good reviews, and it’s been open forever, so I imagined it would be fantastic. I believe the main issue was that we chose to dine in and order dinner. It might be a perfectly good place to carry out pizza, but if that is the case, they should not even offer dine-​in and should definitely not offer dinners.
The ambiance was severely lacking. (There really is no ambiance.) But, that wouldn’t have mattered if the food was good.
I ordered the chicken parmesan. My waitress asked, «the sub?» I said, «Oh, no — the dinner. I didn’t realize there was a sub.» She said, «Sorry, we just don’t get a lot of people that order dinner. Normally people get pizza and subs. I don’t think I’ve ever had someone order that before. I don’t even know if it comes with salad or anything.» RED FLAG. My friend ordered the ravioli. Another item that apparently had never been ordered before.
When our food arrived, I imagine it is what Italian food would look like if you could buy it at Speedway. Our pasta wasn’t drained and was soaking wet. There were pools of water in the bottom of both of our bowls coagulating the bland sauce. To say the chicken tasted like a hockey puck would be an offense to hockey pucks everywhere. It seemed to be seasoned with something odd that left an aspartame-​like aftertaste. My friend’s meatballs were burned, and her ravioli were barely cooked.
When our waitress asked how everything was, we told her it wasn’t good. She said she had no power to do anything but we could tell the cashier. The cashier didn’t give any indication that she cared how our meal was, as when we told her it wasn’t good, she just told us our total.
I took my leftovers home because I was hoping it would be better reheated and that maybe I could jazz it up somehow. It was not possible. So that was a waste of $ 12.
If the subs and pizza are good and everyone does carry-​out, maybe just stick with that and don’t offer dinners that you aren’t prepared to make. I could’ve gone down the road to Carsonie’s and spent the exact same amount for something delicious, plus ambiance, and courtesy.

This was one of my mom’s favorite places to go when she was younger, while growing up in Columbus. I see why, the pizza is phenomenal. Good size crust and the didn’t skimp on the toppings (got a veggie pizza). Definitely worth trying rather than a standard pizza chain.

Ok so disclaimer: this place defines everything that is right in the world about pizza for me. My dad (and mom for that matter who doesn’t even like pizza) used to get this for us nearly weekly as kids. Cold pizza for breakfast? Only if it’s Tommy’s. We used to come here before/​after UAHS football games (yeah yeah you’ll never see me leading a Golden Bear parade). If you waited on us, sorry our tips were likely inadequate. But this really is Pizza of Perfection and a ridiculously good Italian sub, extra hot peppers. I moved away in 1997. I still dream about Tommy’s. While I infrequently make it back to OH, it’s a rare pie that is even so much more ridiculously good than you possibly remembered. That’s Tommy’s. See ya in November. :)

Nobody goes there anymore. They’re too busy~
Tommy is dead, and so, soon, will be the quality he sought to maintain. I knew Tommy. I used to eat at his restaurants, but I just spent one hour waiting for a pizza at his Lane Avenue operation. When I got there, the line for paying was to the rear wall. I waited in it and paid, only to see people behind me get a pizza ahead of me. No employee explained that they had lost my order, or really noticed that I had been standing there for 45 minutes until I went to the counter and threatened to throw their pizza boxes in the floor. No one explained what happened, no one offered compensation. At one hour, I got a large pizza, three fourths of which I will throw away.
I will never go to Tommy’s again.

Tommy’s is the best pizza in Ohio. Haven’t found anything better than a large Tommy’s pepperoni pizza extra crispy old oven!

I’m a huge Tommy’s pizza fan and I normally have no issues with them; however, I am a big believer in customer service and I don’t feel like I was treated very well the last time that I called. The woman who answered the phone seemed like she couldn’t care less that I was placing an order with her business and was quick to rush me off the phone and didn’t even bother reading the order back to me. I had to ask her to do so and then I thanked her and she said «you’re welcome» to me. Now, where I come from, the business thanks the customer and not the other way around. It’s the little things that make a difference. Somebody might read let this and say that’s no big deal and it doesn’t bother them, but it bothers me because I’m a big believer in customer service.

i am a pizza snob. i love pizza.
i grew up on this pizza. and then i moved to chicago, where, there is really only ONE place in that whole city where i think the pizza is ok. it is thin crusted and joyous.
chicago style pizza is gross… but i digress.
a pizza made in the old oven from tommy’s is pure joy. i have order one to go and brought it to friends in other cities to enjoy this gem.
there was a time that i hadnt had one in over two years because of travel and not getting to columbus and when i went back? there is still state trooper there and the pizza is just and crisp and fresh as always.
this should be on the national registry of historic places…
the left overs, if there are any? put them in an iron skillet the next morning to reheat… you will be glad you did.

«Matty’s Big 10 Pizzas of Columbus»:
I am a bit of a fanatic when it comes to the old school pizza joints here in the capital city. The franchise chains and sell-​outs (Donato’s and Rotolo’s) have nothing on the original pizza parlors that serve up our uniquely Ohio take on a true pie; thin crust, toppings to the edge, and the square «city» cut.
That being said, there are very few of these family-​owned establishments left, and even fewer that I haven’t tried at least once. My quest this summer is tough work; to hit as many as possible and rate the very best.
Tommy’s in Arlington is the original location and has and has easily earned a spot in my «Big 10» with a pizza shop so classic and simple, it really hasn’t changed much over the years.
This is where my earliest memories of delicious hot pizza, subs, and salads all started. I consider Tommy’s pizza to be the gold standard of the classic style pizza I crave and no «Best-​of» list would be complete without this joint near the top!

Delicious! Even the plain olé cheese pizza is delicious (got it for the kiddos). Bi for mature adult pizza eaters I would recommend the everything pizza. Incredible!
We got it to-​go so can’t really speak to any other ratings factors. I thought the cost was a little much for pizza, but it was definitely worth it — very very excellent pizza.

Before this past weekend, it had probably been over a decade since I’d had Tommy’s Pizza, and I don’t know what in the hell took me so long to try it again. I have fond memories of having team dinners after youth hockey and baseball seasons at the Dublin location, and I always thought the pizza was good from what I could remember.
Well flash forward 15 years, and I’m looking for some pizza I don’t usually get, and I knew it had to be Tommy’s. It’s literally 5 minutes from my house, and my roommate always went on about how it’s his favorite pizza.
I ordered a pepperoni and onion pizza with one-​half with jalapenos to go as well as their cheesy garlic bread. It only takes them about 20 minutes to fill the order which is pretty awesome. I’m a big fan of delivery, which this location does not have, and that’s probably the main reason I haven’t tried it sooner.
Man, that pizza was super crispy, cheesy, meaty, and delicious. They don’t skimp out with tiny jalapenos either; you get huge ones that looks like they throw on after baking, and it works. It was the first time my girlfriend had ever tried Tommy’s, and she’s now a huge fan. I will say though that the garlic bread was pretty underwhelming. There wasn’t a strong garlic flavor, and the cheese on top wasn’t very tasty, so I’ll probably avoid that one next time.
Go check out Tommy’s! There’s a reason it’s been in business for over half a century, and it’s because they make some great pies. It’s a Columbus staple, so here’s to it being around for another 50 years.

Oh, Tommy’s! I like you. I REALLY like YOU!
All the Tommy’s in Columbus are interesting, because each one will deliver the same product, but each location has it’s own little hints of love. It’s just subtle changes, but you can tell.
This location has the most aggravating parking in the front, so your best bet is to park behind the restaurant and flip off that dude that’s totally blocking the through way in the front, because he believes his pizza pick up is much more special than yours.
Inside is old school. Nothing fancy, no frills, and again, creepy old picture of dead owner. I dig it. He can watch me eat pizza ANYTIME.
This place probably isn’t the better location for large groups, unlike their Dublin counter part, but it’s a nice hangout for friends and some serious pizza.
A good and seriously thin cracker and crunchy crust makes this one of my all time favorites. The owners do not cheap out on the toppings, which explains the nearly extra dollar plus for extra cheese. It’s good stuff.
My personal favorite: Cheese, meatball and onion.
Your life will be changed forever.
We order pizza from here weekly… if that says anything.

Extremely rude phone service. Just called asking if you could do advanced orders and I get «Tommy’s Pizza, we open at 4 o’clock.» I said «thanks, are you able to do advanced orders?» His reply: «We open at 4 o’clock.»
If you’re a pizza place that takes phone calls, it might be good to show some class when greeting customers.

I used to work seasonally in Vermont. My then-​girlfriend, now wife, bought four Tommy’s Pizzas, drove straight to the airport with them in her carry-​on luggage. She flew to Burlington (with all the passengers demanding the flight crew to serve them whatever smelled so good). She escaped unscathed as they could not figure out where the aroma was coming from. And after a drive, brought the pizzas to my friends and me. Now, I had not seen her weeks, so as we greeted one another, my friends decided to eat one of the now unguarded pizzas. They then decided they would eat the second one — half for them, half for us. With so many of them and so few of us, they ate the third thinking leaving us one was pretty fair. They apparently rationalized eating the last one by saying «they live in Columbus and can eat more of these; we’re from England, Netherlands, France, New York, etc., so hell with them.» Seeing those empty pizza boxes was like the dad in Christmas Story seeing the Bumpus hounds run off with his turkey. That’s how good Tommy’s Pizza is. You’d steal it from a friend and have an excuse as you’re doing it. Bastards.
On a lighter note, they all demand Tommy’s when they visit Columbus. But still, pretty uncool.
