Description

Specialties

Zaharakos specializes in diner-style American cuisine at affordable prices. We offer homemade ice cream that is sure to please all the while giving a great ambiance of the early 1900s. Zaharakos is a step back into time, a preserved gem in the «Athens of the Prairie» Our pride and joy is our ice cream and stellar service.

History

Established in 1900.

Three Zaharako brothers travelled to Columbus Indiana in 1900 and opened a candy shop. In 1904, they went to the World’s Fair in St. Louis and bought the double sided bar and soda fountains. In 1908, they bought the Welte Orchestrian. In 2006, a local businessman named Tony Moravec bought Zaharakos and saved it from going under. He closed the restaurant and held a grand re-opening in 2009 after years of renovations. Zaharakos has been serving smiles ever since.
