What’s the old saying, «Those who do not learn from the past are condemned to repeat it» — I think I’ve got that right. Yet again I have been lured all the way some god forsaken suburb(Commerce City in this case) with the promise of real New Mexican food. I was born and raised in New Mexico and I miss the food terribly — so much that I have the Shed in Santa Fe ship me their red chile by the case so that I can make real enchiladas and carne adovada. Well, they promise New Mexican food prominently on their webpage and I’m calling bull on it. There was not one thing I tasted today that had anything to do with New Mexican cooking. Just the same old, same old Colorado style — including(and this is something any New Mexican knows) you NEVER make chile rellenos with egg roll wrappers — EVER. Much less smother them in Colorado green gravy(ordered hot — what I got had no heat or spice at all). Blasphemy! The red sauce on the enchiladas could have been tomato sauce straight from a Rosita can. The only thing I tasted today that was remotely interesting were the beans — it’s pretty sad when beans are the star of the show. Had a couple of bites and gave up — no inquiry from the waitress about the uneaten food. Not crazy about the space either — big cavernous place with all the charm of a VFW hall and I’m guessing really loud when busy. One waitress covering the whole restaurant and she was in the weeds with a group of 12 ahead of us. We had to steal silverware from a nearby table, no return to check on us after food was dropped, forgot the guacamole we ordered, didn’t have a clue what I was asking if they have a «top shelf» margarita(the house one is awful — mostly bad mix and no taste of tequila — only $ 5 though — still not worth it). Just disappointing overall. Sorry — don’t mean to rant but if you’re going to advertise your food as New Mexican you might want to go down and try some. Still the only place in town that serves anything close to what I grew up eating is Little Anita’s(as you’d expect since they started out there) but it’s hit or miss up here. I guess I’m just going to have to stick with home cooking if I want the real taste of New Mexico. See? I am learning after all.

Very good food! I’ve been there quite a few times since they opened in Commerce City. The owners are very nice people. The place is clean and the servers are very nice! It’s a big place inside.

First let me say: Excellent Food. Now the review. I’ve driven by this place a few times. I never stopped because I assumed it was more on the«cantina»(bar) side of things due to the many neon signs out front. I decided tonight to give it a try. As soon as I walked in I could tell I was wrong. This place is a full restaurant, and above most standards for cleanliness! The décor is new with touches of southwest flavor here and there. The food was great! I went with a combo plate so I could try s bit of everything. The enchilada sauce is amazing and fits the New Mexico standard. We also had the Queso dip for appetizer which was not over-complicated but loaded with flavor. I have roots in southern Colorado and it’s hard to find this type of Mexican food in Denver. Check this place out!

There isn’t much as far as restaurants are concerned in Commerce City. The Food is really good and the beans are pretty damn good. Like the potatoes that are in the Breakfast Burritos as well. Great Place to eat while in Commerce City.
