My challenge with Mountain Sales and Sevice
On the 26th of January 2014 I called Mountain Sales and Service to have them fix a glass chiller that wasn’t chilling properly. On the 28th a technician came out to inspect the item, and quoted us a price of approximately $ 450.00 to repair a compressor line. I agreed and on the 3rd of February the work was completed at a cost of $ 469.69. The chiller seemed to be cooling at that point, but not very well, and we were assured that it would take a little time to get to temperature. On the 5th of February I noticed that the chiller was no longer chilling at all. I put in a call to Mountain Sales and Service on the 6th and was told that it would now cost approximately $ 800.00 to replace the compressor itself.
I told the operator that I would be more interested in purchasing a new one at that point and was hoping that there would be some leniency on this invoice due to the fact that the work is guaranteed and only lasted 48 hours. I was transferred to a salesman that tried to sell me a chiller for $ 2200.00 that is available online for closer to $ 1600.00. Plus there was no offer to budge on the original service call. I requested to be transferred to a different salesman and we played phone tag for several weeks.
I have offered partial payment many times in an effort to get this company to honor their guarantee to no avail and now a lien has been filed for this outstanding service call invoice from 4 months ago.
Here’s my main issue: When I spoke with the operator on the 6th, I was told that it is a common happenstance that the compressor will go out immediately after the compressor line is replaced. After doing some research with technicians in the field, this turns out to be true. WHY WASN’T THIS TIDBIT OF WELL-​KNOWN TRIVIA DISCLOSED ME DURING THE ORIGINAL QUOTE? I feel like I was taken advantage of and this behavior verges very close to sabotaging my equipment to ensure another very expensive service call. I don’t feel as though my company should pay the entire amount but Mountain Sales and Service is not willing to budge at all.
