Specialties

We care for pets in their own home while their owners are away for vacation, business travel, or just working long days at the office. We offer visits once, twice or three times a day. Currently we are accepting new clients in Walnut Creek, Concord, Martinez, Clayton, and Pleasant Hill.

We care for a variety of pets.

Our service is one of the oldest of its kind in Contra Costa County. We are small enough to provide very personal service, yet large enough to provide greater availability. Our staff members are employees, covered under our bond, insurance and workers compensation policy.

Pet sitting is our passion. It’s our «real» job, not something to do until something better comes along. For us, it IS the best job!

History

Established in 1990.

Apronstrings Pet Sitting was established in 1990 by Kim Tank, a registered veterinary technician. Kim brought her knowledge of pet care into a career that fulfilled her dream. She continues to be passionate about it to this day. She lives in Concord with her husband of over 30 years, her four children, 3 cats, and 6 chickens.

Pet sitting is a great responsibility and Apronstrings is booked with reservations all 365 days each year. In 1996, Kim hired her first employee. Her goal has always been to be large enough to serve the needs of her clients every day, yet small enough to keep the very personal touch that is so valued in the field of pet care.

I used Apronstrings for the first time to take care of my cats when I went on a long weekend trip. They were excellent. I got a text message telling me all was well every day (yay!) and the kitties were so happy when I got home I’m not even sure they knew I was gone. Nice touch to get a personal status card on my table when I got home. I will definitely use them again for future personal and business travel!

I’ve used apronstrings for about 4 years now. I don’t want to write TOO good a review because I don’t want them to become so popular that I cant get their services when I need them …BUT they are GREAT! I have a cat, which as you all know, thinks that I am simply STAFF! in my interaction with apronstrings I have NEVER worried when I am gone if «the cat» would be taken care of… my biggest worry has always been how long it will take for her to re-​adapt to ME! when I come home after 2 weeks, and she looks at me, as if I were a stranger!, and «where are those people who have been here!!» — all I can say is apronstrings are GREAT!

Kim and her staff our the best in the East Bay. Their staff are amazing people who truly love pets. Ive been a client for 3+ years and they are my savior. I never have to worry about my 3 dogs and 1 cat as they are well taken care of and very much loved. They are so reliable and my pets love them. They look forward to their visits. I am truly blessed by finding Kim and her staff. What I love about Apronstrings is that they update me by leaving notes on activities they had with my pet aka the Kids. We recently started using Apronstrings Pet Sitting service. We’ve had the same pet sitter for years, but a cross country move brought about the need for a new one. After placing several calls and emails, we chose Apronstrings for several reasons. Correspondence was timely, rates are VERY reasonable, significant experience, and interaction with our pets upon meeting put us at ease. Kim is very down to earth and clearly adores animals. Finding and trusting a new pet sitter was overwhelming. Glad we found a great one so close to home.

Kim and her staff have been wonderful. It was one of the best discoveries of 2011. they have been kind, gentle and caring. When we return home from one of our trips, we can tell the animals are well cared for by how calm and happy they are to see us. This is just the best pet sitting service!!! I’ve been a client of Apronstrings for over a year now and they are awesome! Kim and Howard take such good care of my baby Luci while I’m out of town, I know I never have to worry about a thing. Its such a relief knowing shes in good hands. I’ve never had any problems or complaints. I’ve always come home to a happy little kitty who’s clearly been well taken care of while I’ve been away.

Normally I have friends come over to check in on my cats. Normally, when I get home, my cats pout for two days because I left them. Apronstrings changed that. When I came home they were well groomed and playful. I definitely saw a difference. I was very satisfied. Not only will I use a pet sitter from now on, I will only use Apronstrings!

I’ve been a client of Kim and Howard for about 4 years. They are very committed to the animals that they care for. Whenever I return from trips — I tend to travel a lot — my cats are happy and content.
They lose 1 star because sometimes their staff is less than detail-​oriented. I’ve come home to ‘accidents’ outside the litter box that haven’t been noticed and cleaned up after (although this is rare). However, Kim and Howard are always anxious to know about these incidents and strive to make things right.
I would not hesitate to recommend Apronstrings for pet sitting services. Kim and Howard are great people personally and truly love animals.

We’ve been clients here for a few years and I can’t believe I haven’t raved about how great Kim & Howard’s Team is! :)
I first found out about Apronstrings when I was in need for short notice pet sitting due to a business trip. My friends don’t live close by and I needed someone I could rely on. I wasn’t too sure about my neighbors (I know, that’s sad, but it’s true). I had limited time to research but was able to meet with Kim prior to her coming over to petsit and liked her immediately.
She’s a fellow pet owner and understands the concerns pet owners have when leaving their «babies» in someone elses care.
I’ve trusted Kim on numerous occasions and she’s also great when I have to travel overseas. You can arrange as many visits as you feel your pets need and they also offer special care, such as giving shots for sick animals and would take your pet to the vet in an emergency. The cost per visit is pretty reasonable at $ 19 for kitties, I think it’s a little more for dogs.
Kim’s Team also does regular pet sitting for people that just want someone to walk their dog every day while they are at work.
They come in, feed your pets, clean the mighty box, play with the kitties and also make the house look like it’s lived in while you’re away. I’ve recommended Kim’s services to a few of my friends and they are the first I call when I’m in need of a pet sitter.
