Established in 1973.

We started in Martinez in 1948. We are currently in our second location in Concord. From 1973 – 1979 we were on Treat Blvd.

We also have a location on Port Chicago Hyw.

My Grandfather started our business at the age of 45 and ran the business with his three boys until 1965. I have been working in the business since I was eight years old, starting in 1971. As the current owner since 1999 I am very committed to our business, the environment and the communities in which we operate. If you ever have a need, even if it is not hardware related, we would love to try and help.

I love this place. So much better customer service then Home Depot or Lowes. They have everything the big places do, it’s just a smaller store. The prices are also pretty comparable if you use the coupons they send you. When you ask for something is, they walk you over to it and show you. They don’t just point in the general direction like Home Depot. I just wish they were still open till 9pm like the other stores.

I wish I could give them a 10 star rating! From the time I entered the front door I felt like I was an important person, even though all I needed was a key made. Gerard was not only a great help, but a friendly and knowledgeable employee. If the employees are a reflection of the management then management is definitely doing something right because everyone was a step ahead of any one I have dealt with previously at other stores. Your store rocks and I will always come back here for all my hardware needs. I felt like I had friends that cared not just another faceless customer. Thanks Bill’s Ace Hardware I needed that!

Excellent customer service, friendly and helpful manager Katie. We bought a Weber BBQ there last spring and not only did Katie find answers to all of our questions, but she gave us a great price that even beat the price on Amazon and offered free assembly. We paid a small fee for delivery and it was so worth it not to struggle with a heavy box. The BBQ was delivered within a time window and a personable guy wheeled it into our patio, connected the natural gas line, checked to make sure the unit was working OK, and even went back to the store and returned promptly with the correct gas line fitting which he then installed. Completely happy with the service and extra help, not to mention the price!

I usually have a great experience at this hardware store however this time was very different. I am horrified that as a loyal customer I was given incredibly terrible customer service by Suzanne. This experience left me humiliated and very angry that I was treated with such disrespect. It only takes one bad experience to ruin an impression and Suzanne accomplished that. Very disappointed to say I will not be returning.

We were doing work in the yard this spring and I had made several trips to Lowe’s and Home Depot. I ended up at ACE because I was driving by and it was on the way. I was so pleased by how nice and helpful they are in there. I wish I had been giving them my business all along. When you ask a question at Lowe’s or HD, TJ eyes either don’t know and don’t care, or they point you in the direction of someone else. It’s so frustrating. I’m glad I found out about ACE.

This is one of the last good hardware stores around here. They have a great selection of repair items that are becoming difficult to find at big box stores and fake hardware stores like OSH. Their real asset is their employees though, especially the older employees. They have an older gentleman, John, who works there– he is an absolute human encyclopedia of hardware knowledge. I’ve never been able to stump him, no matter how obscure the item/​question. There’s another guy, whose usually around plumbing (I think his name is Don), who’s also very knowledgeable. Been going here for years to keep my house in good repair and plan to continue going here.

If you dont mind spending a little more than the big box hardware stores (home depot, lowes) come to the best place in town. The staff is knowlegable and helpful. If they dont have what you need in stock, they can order it. really really experienced staff in almost every aspect of constuction/​repair. from plumbing to electrical. they know it all… best selection of individual bolts /​screws etc. and actually some of the best prices on screws, nuts etc. Be prepared to pay a premium on paint. but they can match ANY COLOR! and great quality, so you get what you pay for. I highly recommend this place. the 4 star instead of 5 stars is for the lack of lumber selection. other than that, a perfect store.

I want to add my vote for Bill’s Ace Hardware as the hardware store of choice. EVERY TIME I have set foot in the store, someone comes up and asks me if I need help finding anything. I usually do, as most of us do when we enter a hardware store. I’m appreciative for the friendly faces and help.

I’ll admit it, I do love Ace. As a former employee (I worked there almost a decade ago in college) I have to say the atmosphere hasn’t changed much. Yes, prices are higher than the big box stores, but what you get is convenience and people that actually know what they are talking about. Don in plumbing, and Louie in paint come to mind for expert level advice. Selection is vast, as this Ace is much larger than the standard fare. They also have good prices for refilling your propane tank too.
And, they sell Kinders and BBQ smoking accessories! I choose this place over OSH down the street anyday!

Horrible customer service in plumbing. Usually at other ace stores there are multiple people that are wiling to help, but not here. I needed some plumbing pieces and couldn’t find them and there was only one person in that department, her name was Nicole and she had been with one person for about 10 minutes so I asked a different employee and they said that he wasn’t in the plumbing department and I had to wait for her (I had only experienced this at Home Depot, but never Ace). When she was free she just said you can’t do that yourself you need a plumber and gave a card and walked away, but we had other questions so we asked again for the parts and explained what was wrong in the wall and we were sent to pick up certain parts and she then raised her voice, and my elderly father was shocked. I even had to tell her to calm down and speak to us in a calm voice. We left went to OSH and they took us to the plumbing and gave us the parts we needed. Little did Nicole know that I had already spoken to my neighbor, a retired plumber, and he had told us to go to Ace and show then the pieces and they would have everything I need so he could meet us at home to repair our pipe. When he came over and we told them the story of the employee he was so shocked because he said he always goes there. He told me he won’t be sending/​referring people to that store and we wont be either.

My family & I recently moved back to the Bay Area from Florida, changing addresses for club cards & store programs has been a pain but here it was easy. The second time I came in the lady at the register remembered changing it for me & sure enough she found it!
Not to mention that I am a pretty crafty person so I’ve come in looking for odd stuff. All the team members I have spoken to have been very helpful & give me tips on how to do things better.
This is my hardware go-​to store. The prices are a few cents higher but I also think of it being the saving of time & money driving to a big chain store where I have to hunt for help & get someone who doesn’t work in the department. Plus I get coupons in the mail that I use for when my craft list gets long & save that way.

The only reason I didn’t give this store 5 stars is because the prices are normally higher than Home Depot and OSH. But, they are a smaller company and probably cannot afford to go too low on the prices, so I get it. But, my wallet doesn’t get it.
Anyway, the people that work here are great, especially Bryan. He is AWESOME! I bought a garden fountain from this store, brought it home and found it wasn’t working. I came back to the store and Bryan went above and beyond … he figured out what was wrong with the original pump, helped me find a new one, adjusted the new pump so I didn’t have to do myself, and ended up giving me the new one for free. (I guess it’s not really free because it was replacing the broken original one, but still … it felt free.) When I got back home, I inserted the new pump and — hey — there’s my garden fountain trickling water as it’s supposed to. YES!!!
