Clarion Hotel

I’ve been staying here for about a week now. I could see why people would be disappointed if the lobby was the first thing they saw. The lobby has a nice atrium with live plants and bird sounds coming from the speakers. Enter the lobby, and it looks pretty inviting. Complete with a coffee station, a comfortable seating area, and business center. So yes, if the lobby was my first impression, I would expect the rooms to be as bright and new. However, it’s not so bad. It’s a solid 3, and here is why…
The Good: The room I’m staying in is clean, has a medium-​sized fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and TV. It’s a pretty typical 3-​Star hotel room. The sheets and blanket are clean, white, and crisp. Checked for bed bugs, none. The pool looks big and sparkly, but I haven’t been inside (yet). The bar, adjacent to the pool, is open during breakfast and I think again from 4pm-​9pm (check, bc I could be wrong). There is also a gym with a few cardio machines. The hotel itself is located next to a shopping center and a variety of restaurants. Staff has been friendly to me, especially housekeeping — they’re above and beyond.
The Not-​So-​Good, it’s noisy, day and night. From construction to airplanes flying and loud cars/​motorcycles passing by. Although the room was clean, the carpeting could probably be redone. It wasn’t the worst hotel carpeting I’ve been on, but it could be better.

Our company was working in the area and we needed a hotel close to our job site. Since I needed to book multiple rooms, I was connected with Colleen Holsinger, the hotels Sales Manager. Colleen was extremely friendly and helpful. We had to juggle some dates and she was so flexible. Our crew was happy with the hotel and we will plan on returning when our project resumes in a few weeks.

Room was lovely, as was the lobby, free computer and print out boarding pass and other doccuments, nice quiet pool very well situated close to food places and amenities eg in and out burger, target, toys er us, and Safe Way, Starbucks one or 2 draw backs was i wasn’t previously told I needed a $ 200 deposit on credit card which i didn’t have I only had cash lucky my girlfriend did. The elevators were quick and the air conditioning was a god send the bedding was lovely and comfortable and a nice mini fridge provided was very handy, cleaning staff also did a great job. I would definitely go back next time im over again.

Phone, alarm clock, heater/​ac/​fan unit wouldn’t even turn on. Left a note at front desk for manager to contact me. Never got a call.

Hey, the ice machine worked. Everything looked old and worn out in the room. The toilet ran every few minutes. The stairwell smelled like smoke. Basic hotel… very basic.

The lobby is nice but it is a bait and switch. The hotel is a dump. Do not stay here.

I just booked a room here now I’m scared I saw the reviews & I should of looked at them 1^st. My fault & I can’t cancel or I will be charged the full amount. Great now what??? Sounds to me like a lot of apologizing from The manager but nothing is getting done about it… dammit I should’ve read these reviews 1^st I would not be staying here!

This hotel looks really nice from the lobby. It may take a long time to check in if there are several people checking in at once as lunch breaks are highly prized here. Coffee in the lobby might be ice cold in the morning, the ten dollar eggs might be real runny. Your room door may require a maintenance man to hit the lock with a screw driver after you walk up and down several times with your luggage to alert them to its disfunction.
Whem you get to your room you will be in a state of cognitive dissonance because thenlobby was so nice. Your room is an old dingy hotel room with no fridge or microwave and there is dirt on the light switches. All rooms face the outside with minimal weatherstripping and the main door to the hotel does not lock so anyone can come through the back

NOT EVEN A ½ Where do I start? We reviewed room reservation via web sight for a 1 night 2 quest in Concord Ca. After locating a noted 3 Hotel we contacted Clarion 1 – 800 reservation # & was quoted a price of $ 109.00. At arrival we were charged $ 139.00. After being charged a $ 200.00 incidentals fee, receiving our room, walking through a disgusting hallway & arriving at a RUN DOWN room, we again called the the 1 – 800 Clarion # to confirm the earlier $ 109.00 quote. «This is where things go sideways.» After explaining our encounter to Clarion 1 – 800 # we were literally told to go back to the reservation desk & renegotiate our room rate. there is just to much more bad news to tell but to lengthy. Hence, we stayed at a 4 ½ Hyatt in Pleasant Hill Ca. for a 5 night stay.

I have to say I agree with all the negative reviews about this place everything people said about this place is true:
— Scary ghetto elevator.
— Outside door says it’s locked for your safety but it’s not locked anyone can come in.
— super dirty and old ratty carpet and restaurant cushions.
— hotel looks nicer outside and in the lobby compared to the rooms and the rest of the hotel.
— our room «felt» clean but I’m not sure about the carpet
— hotel just felt super shabby and not maintained.
— price is a bit high for what you could get at another hotel in a nicer neighborhood and nicer hotel for a few dollars more.
PROs
— we loved the staff! They were all so friendly and helpful! Especially the girl who checked us in and the wait staff! That’s the only Unilocal comment from previous Unilocalers we didn’t agree with.
— the free breakfast buffet was a nice bonus we were not expecting that. The food was adequate, I mean you can’t beat FREE!
I think this place has a lot of potential they just really need to invest in consistently updating outdated and shabby furniture, carpet, etc. And invest in a deep clean of the rooms more often. Other than that it suited our needs for a warm place to stay and a hot shower!

I’ve attended two events in the past at the Clarion which were held in the banquet areas. I was very impressed with the look. So, when I needed overnight lodging in Concord, I decided to choose the Clarion. Unbeknownst to me, it would be the most horrible experience I’ve ever had at a hotel in my life. To start, there was no bell service to help with my luggage, (which I assumed there would be considering the amount I paid). I had two young children and many bags, it was extremely hard to get everything out of my car and up to my room. The side entrance doors which say there locked for guests safety, were unlocked. Anyone could enter with no problem. On the way to my room I started to notice the overall look of the hotel wasn’t what I’d expected. The carpets were very worn and dirty and the walls were dirty leading up to the room. Once I entered the room, it reminded me of an old dirty cheap motel. Old furniture, cheap bed linens, and a heating and cooling system that was extremely loud. I decided to get ice to keep my daughters milk cold, upon grabbing the ice bucket and opening it. There was a dirty bra and some sort of toiletry inside! It’s obvious that the housekeeping isn’t being thorough. My kids were very cold through the night because the thermostat didn’t work properly. I could not wait to check out of there first thing in the morning. During my check out, the front desk explained to me that my $ 200 security deposit would be held for the next day or two! Only because the personnel who handles that comes in on the night shift!
This hotel can be deceiving because the look of the front exterior, lobby and downstairs banquet areas. I paid more at the Clarion for one night than the Marriott in Walnut Creek for one night, (which was only a day prior). And the Marriott offers bell and room service.

Save yourself… don’t come here.
I really didn’t appreciate basic luxuries like a plug to charge my phone/​compute or a decent shower until I came to the Clarion.
Let me just list a few things that I found while staying here…
— Mysterious stain on the headboard of my bed
— Key to my room just randomly stopped working (happened to several people)
— Shower went from scalding hot to ice cold every other minute
— 1 working plug to charge everything
— No refrigerator
— Wi-​Fi did’t work on phone but did work on computer
— Heard washing machines all day and night which made it hard to sleep
— Weird location/​not walking distance to many things

FINALLY– 2 whole days after my incident with BED BUGS, I get my belongings back and speak with a manager. Yes! I went 2 entire days with no clothes, no coat, no nothing. After speaking with management, they agreed to refund my stay. So I guess they’ve earned the one star.

$ 200 incidental hold on your card! For a 2 star hotel? REALLY???
The ladies working the front desk were rude. It’s over priced for what it’s worth. Rooms were clean & they have flat screen tvs that’s about it.
*if you have visitors make sure the front desk knows, they start towing cars after midnight.

The elevator on the left side building scary af. No Matter which floor you pressed. It will go all the way to the top than go to the one you want.
And the key card I can not open the side door with that after 24hr, I have to go all the fking way to the front desk to redo the key for me. It’s hundred degrees here. I don’t want to walk five minutes to the front desk. i stay here for four days. I can not believe I doing this every day.
And there is one side door is not working at all. I’m standing there open that freaking door for like 10min. Then someone living here help me to open it for me. IF THAT DOOR NOT WORKING PLZ PUT A SIGN THERE.
And those guys who works at the front desk are extremely unhelpful and got some serious attitude.
Inside the room. The AC is really fucked up. It said the its controlled by a wall thermostat. But it’s not. I turn it off, after few minutes it turn it back on with fan. And kept blowing cool air to my head when I doing some work on the desk

If there’s negative 5star, I will give that.

Wow, I could not believe how bad a hotel restaurant and breakfast could be. Many hotels offer a free breakfast and a decent variety. Clarion charges guests 8 dollars. Very little in the way of choices. You can have whole wheat or whole wheat toast. You might want it toasted but their toaster really doesn’t work (like the toast doesn’t stay down or one side off the toast gets toasted) don’t ask for white bread, bagel, English muffin or pastry. It is whole wheat only. Not kidding. The carpet and upholstery really needs updating.

The place is deceiving looks nice from the lobby and hallway. But when we checked in they told my husband that we have room for you 2 beds. My husband told them no way we have reservations for king size bed and she said just one moment I’ll upgrades you this is actually more money but I’ll give it to you. Wow we got upgrades on the bedroom that we reserve. So we went on our bedroom as I’m resting coz it was a long day my husband went to the bathroom and got out and ask me if I shower I said no so we walk in the shower and see the dirty towels an open soap, shampoo and wet towels. So I call front desk they said they’re going to send someone to clean the rooms I told them I’m not sure if the sheets are clean they said they will take care of all of that. So my husband and I decided to go out and eat he’s a little cranky coz he’s not taking a shower yet so he changed his work clothes so we went downstairs and reminded them again and they said the maid service is on the way up we should see them yeah we see them but we never see anything about changing our bedsheets so I thought maybe they have staff on every floor for changing sheets so we were gone for more than 2 hrs when we came back the dirty towel is gone but the open shampoo and soap is still in the shower so my husband went down to front desk and tell them i don’t think you sent someone to clean our rooms there is no way I’m laying down the bed knowing you haven’t changed them. So they moved us to different rooms so I guess it’s okay but we’re tired and grouchy for a long drive. Finally were laying down so I checked my bank account on my cell phone to see what is been cleared and processing guess what they charge us for the rooms and charges us again for $ 200 so my husband went downstairs and asked them why there is an extra charge they said just in case we break anything I said what they don’t have that on the policy so the next day I call
to ask why the hotel charges us the extra fee when it’s not on the policy of the hotel so she put me on hold and talk to them she said it was on the fine print. I said I never seen it, they should put that on the policy period
Oh well even the operator on the

I travel to Concord every other week for work and I will tell you now that you could not pay me to ever step foot inside of this horrible establishment again, which sucks because I was hoping this would be my home away from home while I’m on my business trips. If I could give this review negative stars I would. Their customer service is atrocious and they clearly lack in training since every employee at the front desk will give you a different answer.
First things first: I booked this reservation through my company’s travel agency. My travel agency did not tell me that the hotel would charge a $ 200 deposit on the room. The hotel is «smoke-​free» and feels like they are entitled to hold your money because of it. Despite the fact that all of the smokers just smoke directly outside the room and you can still smell it in your room. Awesome. I wasn’t stoked on the additional deposit, but it was late and I had nowhere else to go so I paid it. That was my first mistake. For all of my troubles and because the woman at the front desk (Karen) could «tell I was a good person and really liked me», I was given free breakfast for my stay. Total BS but I’ll always take free breakfast. Cool.
Karen then told me how to get to my room, but neglected to tell me the room was actually outside and around the corner. I spent about 20 minutes searching for it. Mind you, there were no posted signs telling you where rooms are located or anything and the room I was staying in was actually closer to the front end of the building. She directed me to walk all the way around the building while lugging my luggage. Score.
I ordered room service the first 2 nights I was there. The first night was chicken tenders and fries. Not bad, but not good. My fault for ordering them right before the kitchen closed. The next time I ordered food there was no excuse for how horrible it was. I ordered nachos around 6 or 7 pm. Simple, right? Apparently not. The meat was burned, the cheese was burned on half of the chips and the other half wasn’t even melted, and they put no effort into making it even look slightly appetizing. I immediately called and sent them back. I was told that I would be refunded, but alas, I was not. The only silver lining in all of this was the sweet guy from room service who was totally understanding and helpful. I didn’t catch his name, but he was awesome.
The hotel itself is rundown. They’re clearly in the process of remodeling, but it still needs some serious work. It’s very outdated and I saw several safety hazards such as metal paneling hanging off the walls in the exterior stairwell or completely ripped off the wall and thrown on the floor. One door had the metal paneling missing and it was zip tied so that people didn’t have to actually push the bar to open it. The shower was also mislabeled with hot and cold on the wrong sides and the water gets REALLY hot. If you’re not paying attention, you’ll burn yourself.
When I checked out, I was told once again by another woman at the front desk that the deposit would be returned to me after check out. She removed the charge for the nachos I sent back and I was on my way. I check my account later that day and the $ 200 security deposit was still pending. I called the GM and got her voicemail, then called back and asked to speak with someone else in management. The woman I spoke with (sherry or Cheryl?) was very understanding and helpful and was the first to tell me that the refund can actually take up to 3 – 5 business days to post. She is the 4^th person I spoke to about this and the first to actually tell me the truth. She transferred me to the sales manager, who was annoyed that I had even questioned the charge. By the end of the call, she was so rude I almost hung up the phone. In the end, she got my issue resolved so I can’t be super angry with her, but no one should ever be rude to a customer. It’s the number one rule of customer service.
Avoid this hell hole. Pay the extra money to stay somewhere where the staff is trained to speak to their guests respectfully and gives the correct information.

This place isn’t worth $ 100/​night, and definitely not worth whatever the regular rate is. The owners, management, and employees clearly don’t take any pride in their place of work, as evidenced by the shambles the building is in. Nearly everything in my room was stained, including carpet, chairs, sheets, and towels. The general state of the room was also very unclean, the light switches and AC unit were absolutely disgusting. Breakfast was $ 8/​person (really?!) and was cold, even the eggs/​bacon/​pancakes.
Bottom line is this is a motel pretending to be a hotel. I mean I get it, I’m not expecting the Omni or anything, but cleanliness and unstained furnishings should be a minimum from any hotel that doesn’t have an hourly rate.
The owners need to get their priorities straight or just burn this terrible place down and start over.
