Diablo Creek Golf Course

I have to agree with the person who mentioned the Asian girl, she was not helpful at all. If you put yourself in a position where you are going to interact with customers (paying customers) then you should at least show some interest and attempt to use some customer service skills. Most people on the desk try to accommodate players needs and requests but this girl seems to find it hard work… maybe a smile, a let me see what I can do or a thank you would help!

I haven’t played the course here so my review is about the driving range. This is probably my favorite driving range in the area. The balls are relatively new, the mats are in relatively good shape, and there’s lots of targets to aim for. One thing I like is that the netting along the sides of the range kinds of wraps around at the end of each side to create an open space that is about the width of a fairly generous fairway. Needless to say, if you’re aiming for the center of the gap and make it through the netting, you’d probably be set for a playable shot. Lefty’s Sportsbar is right behind the range and there’s a lot of outdoor seating so it’s usually pretty lively as a lot of patrons are enjoying their beverages while hitting balls (or in some cases hitting on the golfers :)). My only complaint would be that the putting/​chipping area is not lit at night.

Nice course but never feel welcome by the people in the pro shop. There’s a Pilipino lady in there that just seems to be a little racists. This is the second run in with her. On both occasions she barely spoke to me and instead of handing me my change she just sits it on the counter. Why is this a big deal?
Well in both cases the white customer right behind me gets a huge smile and a thank you and is handed his cash in hand.
Most of the people in the pro shop and restaurant always seem stand offish.
I’m in customer service myself so I’m sensitive to things like this.
Today will be my last time patronizing this golf course. EVER
There are lots of other choices. I gave three stars because they do take good care of their course.

Gotta love this course, a good price for a really top quality public course. I really like the round and lunch special — nothing better than a dog and a beer (beer not included in the deal) at the turn!
They also have a pretty good practice facility with a huge putt and chip area.

This course is probably the best value in the East Bay! The course is always in nice shape, drains well in the wet season, and has consistent well maintained greens that roll true in my opinion. Highway 4 is nearby so it takes a few rounds to get accustomed to the traffic sounds (especially on the front nine) but it’s not really that big a of a deal. I’ve heard some golfers say the course is boring and too straight with little change in character from hole to hole. I don’t agree as this course has some long par 4’s that are difficult to reach in regulation unless you are a really good consistent ball striker. Yes, the course is rather straight but most of the holes have fairways lined with mature trees. If you slice or hook your tee shots, any straight hole suddenly becomes like a very challenging dog leg or worse — making it almost impossible to score a par without some very creative up and down skill. Afterwards, check out the restaurant as it has great food, usually good friendly service, and reasonable prices with specials on most days. The reason I have not given this facility 5 stars is only because like many daily fee courses in the area the play on the course can be slow at times. That said the pace we have experienced can be partly due to the fact that we are no longer early morning golfers and like to go out in the afternoon when slower play can sometimes be more of an issue. Their driving range and practice facility are also pretty nice. Net, net is that we go to Diablo Creek frequently and enjoy the layout and the grog afterwards.

My husband says this is the nicest course in Concord, but I’ll have to take his word since I’ve only been to their driving range. We went on Monday night to hit some balls and bought a large bucket ($ 8.00). We purchased this in the pro-​shop and then received a code to enter into the ball machine which is right outside.
I say that «we» hit some balls, but it was mostly Casey hitting. Don’t get me wrong: I TRIED to hit the balls, but it was only my second time holding a golf club, and the balls are just sooo small. But I tried. One attempt took me six swings to hit the ball. The guy hitting behind us was actually laughing. But I wasn’t. I was trying my hardest. Why oh why did they have to have such a nicely lit driving range? You can see everyone else swinging at night, and they could all see me — and they have a lot of spots.
We hit most of the bucket and left the rest of the balls for the taking. I wondered what it would be like to try putting. They have a practice putting green also but it is not lit at night so we didn’t get to try that. Probably for the better, in my case.

This course was in great shape when I played it last Sunday. We teed it up at 1230 and played a 4.5 hour round, which was such a blessing on Sunday afternoon. The greens rolled true and the fairways were greener than I expected, especially with the drought we’ve been having. Check out the specials on GolfNow. We got on with a cart for $ 38. Definitely worth the drive out to Concord.
Tip: get their burger and potato salad at the turn. Best $ 9.50 I ever spent on the turn. Load up on waters at the restaurant because none can be found on the course.

Played today. Nice course, reasonably priced, but incredibly slow! I teed off (on time) at 11:50 and barely got done before dark. Another 5 hour round of Bay Area golf. I think the only way I come back is if I get a very early tee time.

This review is for both the golf range and course.
Golf range: I’ve been here a number of times and on my last visit, last Friday evening, I noticed increased yardage markers which is great. $ 8 gets you a large bucket of balls and the range has lights for when it gets dark, that’s awesome. Probably one of the best golf ranges in the East Bay/​Contra Costa area. I would highly recommend it!
It’s convenient because the bathrooms, pro shop and food/​beer (Legends) are super close to the golf range which increases my comfort level. Huge plus!
Golf course: I played the course last Saturday afternoon for the first time. This place had been on my (golf) bucket list because I practically pass by here on a daily basis. My buddy and I were able to get a walk on tee time within about 10 minutes which was both cool and convenient. The course itself was a lot of fun and at times, challenging. I would highly recommend it. It is relatively flat and in pretty good condition overall. We were able to play for $ 32 with a cart which was a pretty good deal.
I look forward to going back soon!

Used to love the driving range, until I came on a weeknight.
I normally come to this course on the weekends to hit balls and play an occasional round. I won’t be going back after my experience last night. The bar, which is right behind the driving range, was full with a huge crowd (and live band) which was extremely distracting while trying to work on my swing. I asked a few people around if this was rare, and they said this happens almost every week night where the bar is a distraction. I don’t begrudge the course making money, it was a HUGE crowd, but it doesn’t mean I want to go back.
I highly suggest sticking to this place during the day, or avoid it for other local ranges.

Course is in excellent shape. Decent value. Did a little of everything here– grabbed some food, hitting the driving range, played 18 holes. A bit slow at time, but average for a Saturday

This review is for the driving range. I prefer Diablo Creek to Boundary oaks because it is a flat field with easy to view distance markers. Disclaimer: I am new and know little to nothing about golf but hitting into a hill makes it more difficult to track a ball versus a flat range. Balls are $ 8 for a large bucket. I enjoyed my experience here. There are lights so you can drive late into the night.

Sat afternoon tee time after a 8 month lay off my friends wanted to play this track and lucky for me it was flat, straight, no wind and wide. Boy I was rusty! All the holes were pretty much what you see is was you get without a lot of difficulty. The only negative feed back was all the holes seem pretty much the same, straight and about 400 yards and the waiting time was a bit much. Kinda repetitive but for high handicappers and newbies a good track. Good place to relax and get back into things. The rate we found was $ 33 with a cart… what a deal. I’ll definitely come back and hopefully shoot a lower score.

Marshall yelled (literally) to not place bag in tee box. Oh please this course is not exactly in the shape where this should matter. He just got a kick out of yelling at someone. Course layout is mixed and interesting until you enter the concord hinterland on the back 9 with five or six virtually identical straightforward, flat par 4s and 5s. Really not that thrilling a course, especially after my experience with the Drill Sergeant.

Fun on the Range. Bit expensive for a bucket of balls. Service is friendly & not too crowded.

Today was my first Diablo Creek adventure. A chilly and foggy morning (fortunately, very little wind) — thank goodness for HotHands! This course is relatively straight and flat. Overall, a plain and simple layout — not a lot to think about –easy on the mind. Exception may be the 17^th hole, which is a super short par 3 … the wild undulating green calls for attention and will bring out the chatter in all — just as if it were a striking designer or artsy conversation piece!
Pace of play was good for our foursome — we finished in 4.5 hours. A few of the fairways were hard and dry allowing for bounce and roll, comparable to the cart paths. Greens were in great shape — too bad my putter wasn’t! $ 53 to ride as a non-​resident, during prime time on the weekend is a very reasonable rate. Would like to try this course again on a warm spring day.

I work nearby and eat lunch here often. The food is good and the service is great. They take good care of us and treat us like family.
It’s easy to get to, never very crowded, and I’d highly recommend it. It’s definitely one of the better restaurants in the area.

This course is owned by the City of Concord and might have been Naval Weapons Station land at one point. This course reminds me of golfing in the Midwest: long, flat, open, and flat. The only things missing are the mosquitoes and the humidity.
My Company occasionally has events here as many of my coworkers love to golf. My game is so bad that they don’t want me even under «best ball» rules. Yet, the Club House facilities are pretty nice and I seem to make all my chip shots on the 19^th Hole.

This is for the driving range. I think it’s a pain that I have to go to the pro shop, wait for the fellas to pause in their conversation and ask to pay for my number which I then have to punch in outside to get a bucket of balls. Then, the mats are pretty hard. Nothing like getting carpal tunnel syndrom while hitting some golf balls. The putting green is huge and is in decent shape. However, chipping is allowed and the two times I’ve been here, I’ve had to work around the guys chipping their 10 – 20 balls onto the green. This is the closest range to my house and even though Buchanan’s range isn’t much better, I’d rather go there.
Now for the course review. I’ve played this course 4 times. Each time, it’s been a 5 and half to 6 hour round. Why you ask? One reason is that the starter likes to put together fivesomes and on one day, a sixsome. Another reason is that the 20 handicappers here insist on taking 6 – 10 practice swings, check the yardage with their skycaddie for each shot and for figuring out how far away the snack cart is and plumb bob each and every one of their four putts. Oh and don’t think of asking to play through, that’s considered rude on this course. Maybe during the week, there aren’t these problems. I’ve discovered that retired guys play faster and know golf etiquette much better than the frat boys and corporate titans. The two stars is for the conditioning of the course which is very good.
