History

Established in 1926.

Founded in 1926, the Diablo Nippongo Gakuen (Japanese School) has a long tradition of teaching the Japanese language and culture to interested school-​aged children in the East Bay. We are a cooperative school, run and managed by an all-​volunteer board. Parent participation is essential to our continued vitality and success.

My kids have been at this school for three years and are enjoying learning the language and culture of Japan. The tuition is low and there are many opportunities to attend events and to be a part of the community. Making and eating special celebration foods, singing Japanese songs and learning traditional crafts are some of the fun things we do together.

This school has experienced teachers, and the tuition is very reasonable. Children enjoy Japanese cultural events that I knew growing up like Undokai, Oshogatsu, Kodomo-​no-​hi, and Gakugeikai. It is a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere and children get to learn Japanese culture as well as the language.

My two children have been attending this Japanese school for over two years. This year, they had baseball games often on Saturday during classes. Their teacher was very accommodating with homework, and they could keep up with the class. The school has lots of cultural events that kids would look for every year. Teachers are very passionate about teaching the language and the culture. It is a nice community feeling and parents also get to know each other and become friends.
