Old man was extremely rude!!! I was shocked how he spoke with us!

This market was recommended by a friend, who had bought some smoked pork loin there that was delicious. I was delighted she had discovered this market and went straight there without checking any Unilocal reviews beforehand. Too bad for me… other reviews mention how rude the owner is, and they are absolutely correct. I will never visit the store again. I’ve been to a number of Russian stores in San Francisco, and none of the people there behave like they detest you just for walking in the door. In fact, I spent three weeks in the USSR at the start of the Gorbachev era and got fairly used to ordinary Russian brusqueness. This guy is over the top, even by Russian standards. I don’t know how the store stays in business.

I sometimes come to this location to buy some traditional Russian food. Most if the times food is fresh and good. Not a big selection like in San Francisco but for a local store will do just fine.

I find this small store is very well stocked with a great variety of Soviet era foods from my childhood. Great diary selection as well as some sauerkraut, pickles, all sorts of canned goods and off course candy. I personally like it much better than the walnut Creek store which has higher prices anyway. Parking situation could be better and I wish they took ccards even for small purchases, so I give it four out of five.

Small place, but good selection of Russian and european foods. You can find many kinds of sausage and cheese, butter and milk products. Prices are lower then competition nearby, but higher then Russian food stores in San Francisco

The owner is so rude and negative. Stay away if your day is important.

It’s a small shop and doesn’t have too much products in it, but i found what i was looking for and what is hard to find in Alameda– buckwheat:) it also sells few products from Israel, a small variety of fish and meats. However, if you are looking for something yummy, you might be able to satisfy your gourmet taste buds there. Customer service brings you right back into the Soviet Era of «just be grateful you found something that you wanted here». Don’t expect a smile or a friendly exchange of a few words. Just get what you need, pay and get out. My buckwheat didn’t taste any different due to lack of friendliness. Just a remark, she wasn’t rude either, just sort of a blank slate:) still„ because it is so small, i would suggest calling them first if you are looking for anything specific. another thing i appreciated was easy nearby parking, to save time :)

This small store provides people from exUssr with the goods they are got used to eat. I mean the citric acid powder, vanilla powder and condensed milk, salted fish and so on. It is really making feel better far from my country.

I am used to rude service at Russian food stores, but the level of rudeness at this store was exceptional! The owner/cashier was making rude comments about me and my questions to other shoppers at the store. I am not a conflict prone person, but had to tell him that he needs to get out of his«soviet comatose» and learn what it means to treat customers properly.

Recently we moved to city if concord. I and my wife are from formal ussr and love to have Russian food but because we moved from the city where they have plenty of Russian stores we were worried for a min. But we check them out got their food everything is fresh and good service so far. We been here so far over 10 times and happy with them… Bit with Russian stores it can change any time. I am just being real.

No stars. This place should not be called European Market. Should be called Russian Market. There is nothing about it that is European. Owner does not speak a bit English. Laughs at you if you don’t speak Russian. No manners and no customer respect. I don’t understand how this place stays in business. There must be something else going on in the back of the store because that’s where everyone seems to be when you enter the store and they don’t come to the front until you are ready to pay. Once you pay they just throw the merchandise and the change at you and walk away. I will never bother with that crap hole of a store again.

Two stars for the Popkoff frozen pelmeni they carry. Those are great and this place seems to be the only one that carries them. The rest of the stuff I’m not sure about. Lots of it is past its expiration date. Once bought meringue there. Opened the box at home and it was just ungodly. Probably made years ago… I’m glad some people are enjoying various cured meats and salads bought there, but I would not risk it. You never know how long some of that stuff has been sitting in that questionably looking place. At least in Babushka in WC I(personally) know that their products are fresh.

I don’t know why people talk so negative about this store. I go there almost every week to get some homemade salads and frozen food. Great store! Must check it out if you like Russian food!

Being from Europe, I must say that I am quite embarrassed by this store being called European Food Market. Let’s just leave it at that.

I buy food there all the time but one day I saw few mouse running along the right side of the wall, it really surprised me, when I told this to the guy owner he did not wanted to admit it, even though they where running right in front of him. The owner was very rude and Hostile and pushed me out from the store, that was my worst experience, I should have called the cops but I had to come back home to my kids, my wife was sick at the time I did not wanted to leave for a long time specially on New Years eve, waiting for cops and then explaining them that this guy needs to work in a barn with pigs cleaning them all day, so he can learn how to respect other people.

Went in again today. The male owner was very annoyed that he had to look up from his newspaper to take my money for a loaf of bread. I had my own bag. And when I politely asked for a receipt(because I was heading on to Safeway), he pretty much threw it at me. AND I spotted some very-much-alive flying bugs inside a package of cookies at the store, very near the bread I was buying. I have really been trying to appreciate/talk up this store, despite the uneven reception from the owners. After today, this jerk can keep his merchandise and his attitude to himself. I certainly will stop shopping there, trying to engender a pleasant customer-owner experience. Perhaps he doesn’t like it when an obvious Goy comes in to buy his merchandise??? And, now I’m tempted to call the Board of Health re: those bugs… Gross!

Me and my sister like to come here when we want something different. Usually, we buy kvas, candy and sometimes their bread. Their prices are decent, the location could be better but it’s just a short walk from Todo Santos. My only real complaint about this place would be the owner, as others have mentioned. The old man is quite rude, it seems more to people who aren’t Russian(considering he’s always nice to the people who speak Russian that come in there). But, his wife is really nice. She goes out of her way to help. Although they don’t have a lot, I like going here, regardless of the old man haha.

Owner is rude man. Two times i came to this store he said some really nasty things to me and my gf. Stupid jerk doesn’t understand that we’re his clients and if he doesn’t shut his dirty mouth there wont be hardly anyone coming to his store. Bottom line is NEVERAGAIN!!! You can find much better Russian stores in SF or Sacramento with a great variety of fresh produce and nice people working there.

Can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this yet! This store is way better than Babushka in WC, and the owners are fine, the woman is very warm and helpful. They have all my basic staples: doktorskaya kolbasa, oliv’e, ikra, and kindersurprise eggs. Small selection of cards and wines. For the size of the store, I’d say they’re pretty well stocked. Tip: did you know there is a parking lot in the back? Just drive into one of the narrow corridors on either side of the store and viola! Parking!
