We purchased our home 3 years ago and when the furnace stopped working we were bracing for a big replacement cost. I found High Performance H&A through Unilocal and set up an appointment with John. He arrived on time and was able to repair our furnace in just a few hours. John’s knowledge and experience were impressive. He is a professional in every sense of the word. We would highly recommend John and High Performance Heating & Air.

I am looking to replace an ancient furnace that is on its last legs. Having researched several options for heating and cooling systems, I am now looking for a contractor to go over the options and install a new system. Due to the overwhelming number of positive reviews, I called High Performance first, and left a message. John got back to me the same day, and explained that he no longer installs systems, but only services them. However, he took a great deal of time with me on the phone to discuss my situation and educated me on the pros and cons of the alternatives I have been contemplating. His experience was very helpful, and has helped guide me in a more clear direction.
While I still have the challenge of finding a good contractor to help me choose and install a system, I would not hesitate to call High Performance once my system is in place and needs to be serviced.

Our furnace broke sometime early Sunday morning and we called High Performance Heating & Air based on their Unilocal reviews. John called us back Sunday morning and was able to come out on Tuesday. He was very knowledgeable and he talked me through exactly what he was doing and showed me what the problem was. He made the fix (cracked igniter) and the cost was very reasonable. We will use this company again with any future issues.

Much like many of the previous posts I made the mistake of hiring «the other guys» to do a tune-​up of my furnace. Big mistake… clearly I hadn’t been to John’s website.
After my working furnace no longer worked due to the unneeded tune-​up, I was lucky enough to find John on Unilocal.Although his reviews are almost other worldly, I can honestly say they are completely accurate. I needed John to come in and triage the damage that was caused by an incompetent tech from a big outfit that promotes tune ups of furnaces.
My furnace now just blew cold air after working fine before. He diagnosed a good portion of the problem over the phone and then scheduled an appointment to do the rest. It was not as straightforward of a fix as we had hoped, but he worked through the problem until it was fixed, explaining what he was doing every step of the way. Very professional and transparent throughout the whole process. Don’t even consider anyone else, I promise you will sleep better knowing John is on your side.

It’s like having a Friend in the industry. Just look at his website. I’m just out of John’s service area but w a potential big job I contacted him and while he turned out to not the best guy for the job (he no longer does new installations) he nonetheless spent ~15mins providing his feedback on my specific situation.
I have 1 complaint — John please do some knowledge transfer into a new honest guy and have him continue your legacy and provide all the services you used to provide. Still 5 stars of course ;-)

This man deserves a 10 star rating. Yes, this is exactly how I feel about this business. He is worth the wait, which can be long as he gives first appointments to his previous customers. He is extremely clear with his billing fees and he has parts on his truck to solve the problem, if he can solve the problem.
Last year, my A/​C just stopped giving out cold air. I lived with it for as long as I could before I called Dad and asked him to have it looked at. One company came out and told him it was shot and they would send him a quote for a new one. It was not the news I wanted to hear. I am not sure of the price, but I do think it was over the $ 10,000 range. I decided to be patient and wait until we could get an appointment with High Performance.
If I remember correctly, our initial appointment was a couple of weeks out but John called my Dad one day and said he had a last minute opening. We were all ready to go!
John came out. He was very patient with us as we had all rushed home to make the appointment and had to deal with some personal things. He checked out the machine after going over his prices again, and told us he could try to replace a part that had burned out. He said most of the time it fixes it but he could not guarantee this to be the case. We decided to gamble a couple hundred dollars more to see if we could save $ 10K.
John was fast, he knew what he was going. As he was working he gave us great information. The A/​C worked! I took time to write this review because I wanted to say a year later, and the A/​C is still going strong.
I will always call John now to take care of any HVAC equipment. And when it is time to get it replaced, I know he will tell me and I will trust it is time because he is honest, professional and he does not sell machines.

John is honest, knowledgeable and the only person worth contacting to fix/​install your ac or heater. There really is no need to call anyone else. We’ve used him for two years now and there’s nothing like the service he provides.

What everybody says. No gimmicks, no BS, no unnecessary repairs. Just an ethical, competent professional who is going to tell you: «it is what it is». This is what should be done (no you don’t need a new furnace today) and this is how much it’s going to cost (yes, it is reasonable compared to what the big guys were going to charge) and by the way, you don’t need that expensive filter either… Oh and in case you didn’t notice, the exhaust vent on your roof needs some sealant at the base… Thank you John! I wish I had found John’s company ‘High Performance Heating & Air’ sooner, otherwise I would not have wasted some $ 2000 on «the other guy» who just swaps out components until the system is fixed, charging unnecessary fees for parts that did not need to be replaced.
You will be treated honestly and respectfully by John. He knows his trade VERY well, and if you are willing to listen, he will explain to you how your system functions and why it is broken. He is one of the most honest guys in the contractor trade businesses I have run into! There are few people I would rate higher than a ‘5’, and John is certainly one of them.
While I could have easily been charged 800‑1000 for my most recent repair, as some will to take advantage of the layman, John was honest and methodical in his pricing structure. He does not overcharge 3 – 4 times the wholesale for a part like «the other guys». Instead, he tells you honestly what the part costs (and you can look it up yourself!) and charges accordingly. Additionally, John provides a detailed, itemized list — something that the other guys do not do and instead seem to charge some random price.
Everything John does is ethical and professional. There is no reason why you would want to call someone else. Seriously, if you are having some furnace issue, call the guy who can fix it right the first time. Don’t make the mistake I did hoping you made the right decision!

I found John to be an exceptionally affable and efficient technician. He identified the issue, then fixed it without delay. He also was gracious enough to teach me a thing or two about heating and air systems, to the point that I was given valuable procedural advice that might allow me to (on a very novice level) also identify and fix future problems.
If actions speak louder than words, than no one understands that more than John. He lets his good and thorough work ethic do the talking. He also is a sort of person who has a love of imparting his specialized knowledge to the world, as he is an apt teacher, should the customer desire knowing more about HVAC systems.
If you have high standards when it comes to who you hire, and if you care about propagating moral goodness in the world by giving your business to ethical and adept entities, then you need to search no further than High Performance Heating & Air when it comes to solving all of your HVAC needs.

John is the one and only honest Hvac tech out there. He took his time to do a through diagnostic of my A/​C and was able to figure out the problem and finally fix the problem along with saving me over $ 3000 that another company wanted to charge me to replace a part that wasn’t broken. You will have to be wait to get an appointment but it’s worth it!

We had problems with our HVAC system cycling on and off so we decided to call and schedule an appointment. He was honest and up front about the way he charges by time not the job. He even gave me a few tips to troubleshoot by phone. Overall John was professional, straight-​forward, and diligent. We would definitely use him again or recommend him to anybody needing HVAC repair (no ductwork).

I wish that I could pin a «Superior Service» medal on John. Let’s be honest; most home service providers are a disappointment. They are either not fully competent, not particularly professional, or downright dishonest. Whether it is appliance repair, plumbing, painting, or electrical work, there’s a good chance that you are getting less than what you are paying for: less than you deserve. Because most of us cannot take the time to learn these trades, we must place our trust in local service providers, many of whom take advantage of our inexperience. This is not the case with John of High Performance Heating & Air. His knowledge of HVAC systems is clearly extensive. But moreover, his dedication to his craft is extraordinary. When you couple this with unimpeachable ethics, you have the winning combination.
I have a little knowledge of how my heating system operates, and had some ideas about possible reasons that I could not start it for the winter, but felt it necessary to consult a specialist. My previous experiences with HVAC technicians has been poor, including the one who initially installed the heater. Scouring reviews, I stumbled upon High Performance Heating & Air. Could it be that I finally found the one in whom I could put my full trust? Listening to his answering machine message, it was clear that we would be in for a bit of a wait. But something about this message and his website told me to put up with interior temperatures in the 50s until we could be serviced by John. It was worth every chilly day’s wait.
He arrived promptly, and set up neatly. I have never seen such a thorough investigation of my heating system and its problems, including insulation chewed by past rodents, and even insulation in the blower fan. Even after making necessary repairs to get the furnace working again, he continued to test every critical component, and to replace a capacitor that was approaching the end of its natural life, saving a second service call when it finally died. He monitored air temperature at the register and even looked carefully at the thermostat to make sure that all was just right. And, at each step, John explained exactly what he was doing.
The price? I was astounded at how reasonable the cost was. Surely any of those who had been out before would have charged double for far less comprehensive service.
I cannot recommend John and High Performance Heating and Air any more enthusiastically. He is truly a superstar in this humble homeowner’s opinion.

So last week our furnace broke down. I called John and he patiently went over some trouble shooting solutions with me over the phone. I attempted to fix my furnace by myself but still had issues. Long story short I called John again to get my furnace repaired and he gave me a ton of options. John is very knowledgeable and honest. I would definitely use him in the future. I’ve called a ton of companies on Unilocal and he by far seems to be the best HVac guy out there!

When I first worked with John, we had been having difficulty with a slow, groaning startup of our air conditioner. Several other companies had tried to diagnose the problem, always selling us parts that proved to be unnecessary and failing to correct the problem. I was tired of working with the companies that have a large number of inexperience techs fresh out of school but seem to have no real practical experience in solving problems. After finding John here on Unilocal,I made an appointment easily for a week or two out (he does tend to be quite busy but that’s perfectly OK for me). When the day arrived, John identified the problem quickly and had it fixed on the first try, and it’s been running smoothly since (and no longer causing the house lights to dim when it starts). And while fixing it, he explained everything to me and I learned more about the system than I’d ever known.
I just had John out to the house for a quick checkup of our furnace — perhaps unnecessary, as described on his web site, but it hadn’t been looked for a while and never by his sharp eyes, and it was another great experience.

My air conditioning compressor failed during a heat wave. I called my normal service provider, Freschi Service Experts and asked them to diagnose the problem. The technician opened the condenser, took some measurements with his meter and said my air conditioning compressor was completely fried and that a replacement would cost $ 4,500. He recommended I purchase a new 2-​zone, high efficiency heating and air conditioning system for $ 20,500 and then billed me $ 99 for a diagnostic service call.
I decided to get two additional opinions and spent some time on Unilocal researching other companies. I called around and had a technician from a second company visit. He didn’t bother to inspect the compressor after I told him what the first technician had told me but he did a thorough examination for the work needed for a new two-​zone system. He also said that he could under-​bid the first quote. Within a day or so, I had a quote for a comparable new heating and air conditioning system for $ 14,500. I thought I had made a good move and was about to agree to the bid. Fortunately, I went ahead and called High Performance Heating and Air.
I left a message for John and then spent over an hour reading the extremely helpful content on his web site. John had posted a HVAC Buyers Guide and Tips & Tricks section which I found very helpful. John called me back later the same evening. John was very up-​front about his billing policy. He asked about my cooling issues and we setup an appointment time.
Once John showed up at the house, he again, reviewed his billing policy which I really appreciated. John is very up front and honest. I explained my AC compressor no longer ran. Within 20 minutes, John determined the problem was a fried starting capacitor for my AC compressor. He had a replacement part with him and was able to fix my AC very quickly. He offered to also replace the «continuous running capacitor» as well and explained the pricing. I gladly accepted his offer and we had the air conditioning system back up and running smoothly in less than 45 minutes.
But that’s not the best part. After fixing my air conditioner, John was willing to answer all of my questions and help me plan for the day when I will eventually replace my 19 year old heating and air conditioning system. John only charged me $ 360 for the parts and labor. I am an extremely happy customer and will not call anyone else for my heating and air conditioning service needs.

John is straight forward, skilled and very reasonable. I called him Tuesday morning and he provided an easy DIY solution to fix my AC issue. I thought about it and decided I better let a professional take care of it. Next day he fit me into his schedule and my AC was fixed in less than 30min. He educated me on what could have caused the issue and further provided info on my questions beyond this issue. 100% satisfied.
If you’re scared about being ripped off and receiving sketchy repair. Call John and you’ll feel confident in his abilities and rates.

John is a master of his trade. Replaced a capacitor on my A/​C condenser after we suffered a handful of unbearably hot sticky nights. Our system is 20+ years old so I was expecting to drop a ton of money to replace the entire thing. Less than $ 360 later, we are back in business with super cold A/​C.
I had John do a few add-​ons which included replacement of the furnace blower capacitor because it was old, cleaning of the flame sensor on the furnace, and replacement of the carbide ignitor with a nitride ignitor. These things weren’t a necessity, but I thought why not since John was already at my house.
If I had to complain about anything, it would be that we had to wait a week and a half before our appointment, but we survived. It’s the time of year when A/C’s break so a same-​day appointment shouldn’t be expected. Definitely worth the wait!

We know you might think «why does John from High Performance Heating and Air need another outstanding 5 star review on Unilocal», but he does. When you have this many 5 stars reviews, you must realize this guy is the bomb and knows his stuff. All these reviews keeps him ahead of the pack.
We were a first-​time customer a month ago, when in the middle of a heat wave (all week long, temps were well above 90 degrees), we couldn’t figure out why our house was not staying cool. The fan in the house was blowing air, but it was HOT air. Well, we turned to Unilocal and called John immediately.
If you take the time to read his very long outgoing voice message, you will know that he is super busy in the summer but if you are patient enough, he will fit you in. We took the chance on him, knowing that he couldn’t possibly have that many rave reviews if he wasn’t the real deal. He also refers you to visit his website, where it is overwhelming chocked full of HVAC information.
Shockingly, we got a call back in just a couple of hours and were told he could come out that SAME DAY. What, what, what? Same day? Of course, we took his appointment time! Upon arrival, and within 15 minutes, he had the air conditioning fixed.
We hope you never have an a/​c emergency but if you do, please do yourself a favor and call John. It’s disappointing that he doesn’t do unit replacements, but we have a feeling he will know just who to call for the best service.
