I went to this place to celebrate my wife’s birthday, we were lucky that it was during restaurant week and they had a 3 course prix fix menu that included an appetizer, entrée and desert. Service was good but not outstanding, the ambiance was cozy but I clearly not arranged by a designer and the food was tasty but nothing special. I guess that if I wouldn’t come during restaurant week so they wouldn’t receive 5 stars due to the prices and the value of food.

we have been coming to Restaurant X and its predecessor Bully Boys for over 30 years. Last night we went for the first time in a year. The food was very good However, the service was horrible. We were given a corner table that both the waitress and bus boy could not service properly. They could not get the plates to the diner without having them passed across. Also this was caused by the table next to us being too close. In addition the waitress keep thanking us for our patience every time she came over as she could not adequately service our table. There was no Front of the House management otherwise I would have said something on the way out. Just a horribly served meal it was reflected in a 10% Tip in lieu of 0. If you dine in Rockland County. Go to Union instead where they appreciate your business

We were a group of 12. We went to the Sunday brunch, which I personally have gone to several times. For most of my party, it was their first time. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The food was delicious and what a great variety! They provided a 20 course brunch and the drinks were flowing! Some of the items: rack of lamb, tuna, duck, mushroom ravioli and eggs benedict. Everything was wonderfully prepared. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. Even the desserts were tasty and a variety to please everyone. The atmosphere is nice, bright and cheery. I highly recommend going… reservations are needed. 5 stars are not enough…

My boyfriend and I ate at Restaurant X last night and found it to be amazing! From the ambiance, food, service, everything was spot on. Not to mention that chef Peter Kelly came to personally greet us! We ordered the beef Wellington and braised short ribs… absolutely delicious. We will definitely come back agin!

This place was AWESOME. From the valet area it was deceiving, but when we went through that door– I knew everything was going to be all right! The Staff was highly attentive and quick on the mark. It was a well oiled machine! I haven’t seen service or food served like that in years! The crab flan, compliments of the chef, was amazing! My girlfriend had the Braised Short Ribs, I had the Beef Wellington. Equally was made to perfection! Matter of fact, my girlfriend really enjoyed my Beef Wellington as well. Like a well choreographed dance– servers of different sorts came and checked on us, and at the end, Chef Peter Kelly came out to personally check that all went well. I cannot wait to go back to Restaurant X!

Would have given negative stars if possible: *OVERPRICED *EXTREMLYSMALLPORTIONS *WINE: VERYOVERPRICED *SERVICEWASSLOW, VERY slow Ex: short ribs were only ONE rib with a smear of wet potatos: squash w/vegies: half squash with handful of vegies and nothing else: No one was happy with their food. Wine I have bought down the road for $ 12 a bottle: $ 45 here. We were a party of 8 and no one was happy. Two tables seated after us were served before our orders were even taken.(we also were first to be seated & no one else was there yet) Would not recommend this place to anyone

Chef Kelly came out to all the tables to greet us. If you’ve never gone, you should. I loved it! But Get your reservations in advance because they sell out at least a month before.

I was hesitant about coming here because it does not look like it is in the nicest area, but as soon as I walked in, I was«wowed!» I was so nice inside! I went for a brunch and I cannot wait to go back. The food was delicious. The service was lovely. I cannot say enough about this place.

I’ve been dying to dine at any of Peter Kelly’s restaurants so when I saw that Restaurant X was a part of restaurant week, I knew I had to come here. The restaurant is really a beautiful old home, converted into dining space– so the experience of dining at this intimate restaurant is what I would come back for. We came here excited to try the short ribs that we saw was on the prix-fixed menu online, but when we got there the menu was not as diverse as we hoped. and there were no short ribs. Our waiter was amazing and he did let me order a beef entrée, which was not on the menu. The food was not bad, but I would not say it was the best food I’ve ever had. The french onion soup was delicious though! I’m glad I was able to dine here during restaurant week, where I did not pay much, the food was decent and the experience and service was excellent. Can’t imagine coming back here and paying full price for dinner, although I’ve heard great things about the Sunday brunch so maybe I’ll come back for that.

We went last night as part of restaurant week and was not disappointed, we have been here many times in the past. The food was outstanding as well as the service. Peter Lynch was there as well as he went to each table to make sure everything was ok, great touch in a restaurant that gets it when it comes to the consumer. No doubt we will be back again.

The food is decent. Second time we have been there during restaurant and it feels like the prix fixed menu is scaled down. The service is challenged. We were there for lunch and everything took forever. We ended up leaving before we for dessert.

There’s something very warm and romantic about this restaurant. When you enter your vision gets a little blurry and you immediately enter a time long gone. Like jack at the end of the shining when he enters the picture, but in the best possible way. Dress is business casual. Reservations recommended. The service is professional yet personable. The ambiance fits this well adorned older home turned 5 star venue. It feels like a mix of an old upscale hotel meets your ideal living room. There is a decent sized bar at the entrance, right near a 4 sided fireplace which is amazing for the couple of tables surrounding it. Off to one side is a separate dining room. To the right, the bar leads to the main room with 2 tiers, and 40 feet of floor to ceiling windows overlooking the gorgeous forest just outside. It’s a great place to host family, friends, or just a romantic dinner. On this night we were celebrating my incredible wife’s birthday. We wanted to stay low key and so we had a party of 4. It’s always a great idea to come 15 minutes early and have a cocktail at the bar. The tenders here know how to keep you happy, and what better way to start the night than drinks with friends? We were shown to our table right on time. The staff is very attentive and management’s attention was very evident. Anyone who appreciates proper service will notice the staffs drive for excellence. I’m not going to review our meals other than to say they excelled, and that’s coming from a group of people who routinely drop ungodly amounts of money on 5 star Manhattan restaurants.(And recently France:) The menu has great variety while not becoming eclectic. Just imagine everything listed is going to be just as good as you hope it will be. My wellington was perfect, my wife’s scallops were fantastic, and the burata was served with succulent cherry tomatoes, prosciutto, and arugula salad. Dessert was original and perfectly executed. The type of place where you easily lose track of time and wish you didn’t have to leave.

A special place for a special event. We went here to celebrate 2 birthdays. The food was outstanding, the place a classic, the service was attentive. We hadn’t been here for a while but as soon as we arrived we remembered why we love this place. The views are nice, the décor is pleasant, the service is always good but the food, that makes it. We had the beef wellington, the wild king salmon and the house special Murray’s Chicken, each was prepared to perfection. There wasn’t a morsel left on the plates. We requested a candle be brought out on any dessert we ordered in honor of our birthdays and they went above and beyond. They sent out 2 special desserts with personalized messages to each of us. This is what it is like to be treated as a special customer. We will be back again, and soon.

Have been coming here for years, but haven’t been back in awhile since it’s a little out of the way for us. I used to live in Valley Cottage, so it was great to be so close back then. Our latest visit was for my daughter’s second birthday. It was truly a wonderful experience. Our waitress was really friendly and accomodating, though we had a bit of trouble locating her at the end of our dinner to pay our check. I had the Beef Wellington, which was great. One of the best I’ve had. Pastry was just the right texture, the meat was perfectly tender and the duxelle was so savory good. Highly recommend this dish! Only minor complaint is that the building is very old, which means it has alot of characteristics of old buildings, including that old house musk. Although I am sure that this restaurant is probably VERY clean, that smell might give customers the wrong impression. I am a fan of Chef Kelly’s restaurants. One day I will make it to Xaviar’s.

Another special occasion at a very special place, Restaurant X. Celebrating with our old friends and colleagues, the Glasel’s only make the fine dining experience at X even better. That welcoming bar and engaging conversation with staff & patrons before dinner makes you feel just right. The drinks are top shelf and the food superb. It you need that unique setting to enjoy a milestone with friends, colleagues or clients the choice is clear.

True Unilocal story: I was a stranger in a strange land on a cold wintry day, snow all throughout greater NYC. I drove by this place called Restaurant X/Bully Boy Bar at 9AM on my way to a meeting, and drove by again, famished, at 1130. Such a weird name, right? I whizzed on by a mile or so, then pulled into a parking lot and whipped out my iPhone to see whether this place had been Unilocaled, and saw numerous highly favorable reviews. Turned the car around and a minute later right into RX/BBB’s lot. I just had a good feeling about this joint. I literally stumbled upon this place with a little Unilocal from my friends, and I’m a lucky guy to have done so. WHAT A GEM! This place has a lot of wow factor, however in a rustic, well-worn patina, subtler kind of wow. I still remember walking up the slate-covered concrete steps, probably a hundred years old or more, and wondering what kind of dining experience I was walking into. What I found was a storybook charming place filled with impeccable service, truly great food, and incredible ambiance, with a huge fire tableside keeping me warm and toasty. The draft beers were all eclectic and wonderful, served from an equally charming and wonderful bar. My lunch was one of the best American meals I’ve ever had: warm bread straight from the oven, a local porter served in a large snifter, the daily baked fish special with veggies(exquisite), and a crème brûlée for dessert. I just read that the chef is very famous and apparently flayed Bobby Flay on Iron Chef? I believe it based on my own meal here. Very highly recommend this place, lunch or dinner.

What is there to say about Restaurant X that hasn’t been said before? That the chef Peter Kelly is one of the best chefs in America, a man who slayed Bobby Flay in Iron Chef, and we’re incredibly lucky to have him in the Hudson Valley? That Restaurant X has been the best fine dining restaurant in the Hudson Valley for years, and would fit in beautifully as a casual upscale dining experience anywhere in the country — and that it reminds me of nothing more than the great restaurants of Napa Valley? That Restaurant X is simply sublime: great service, great food, a beautiful setting? So I can’t add much to what people have said for years. It’s really terrific, and a place that everyone in Rockland should go to at least once. Yes, it’s a little out of the way from the beaten path, but it’s worth the trip.

Impeccable and charming service from Tadeo and all his colleagues. First time I tried the Unilocal link to make a reservation. Don’t hesitate — they even read and cheerfully honored a special request in the Comments section. Seasoned fire tenders: we sat right next to the oh-so-welcome fire and never got too warm.

I had been to Peter Kelly’s Xaviers and the Freelance Café had wonderful meals. Restaurant X was not in the same league. Maybe it was the brunch. Lots of food. I would guess that we had 30 plus dishes. Some of them were good and some pretty bad. I would say that of the 30 plus dishes at least five were worthy of a full meal. another five were maybes, and the rest were not worthy of being on the menu. When one sits down you are not aware of the volume of food. It is a pre fixe menu, but you never see a listing of the dishes that you will be served. At first you get some fruit, Then there is bread. They give small pieces of bread and fruit, as if there was a shortage of food in the kitchen. However, by the end of the meal you are thankful that they were sparing in what they served you since by dish 25 you are looking forward to the end of the meal. There was do much food that by the time dessert had arrived, we could eat no more. If volume is what you want, then Restaurant X is the place for you. If you want a quality meal, then I would try Xaviers or Freelance Café.
