Coppell has no lack of good donut shops. J’s Donuts is yet another source of sugary-sweet donuts and meat-filled kolache delights for the breakfast crowd. Their jalapeño-cheddar sausage roll was enfolded in a pillow of dough so thick you could rest your head on it(too heavy on the bread for my taste). I was pleased to see a good selection of donuts(from sprinkled to crème-filled), including two types of blueberry cake donuts. Like most other donut shops in town, they serve coffee; additionally they have two freezer cases of bottled sodas available. Smiling, friendly staff.

Great donut store in Coppell that has very friendly staff and the most important great donuts. I ordered the jalapeño sausage roll which was definitely not one of those mini versions but also not mad for 3 men to eat. I was very pleased with the taste of the sausage roll it was the perfect combo of spice to amount of roll. I also tried the donut holes which were very soft and very good in flavor. I really don’t each much past these basic donuts so I don’t have much to offer past these two types of donuts. I was given a mini cinnamon roll free with my purchase. I really never eat cinnamon rolls but I can only imagine the large one is bigger and better. I can’t wait to get back here and try these donuts earlier on the morning.

This joint probably wraps up my North Dallas area donut tour for a while. It has been a long, hard, journey, filled with cream-filled disasters and chocolate glazed masterpieces, but I think I have done enough damage to my blood sugar for now. Gotta watch out for the ‘betes, ya know. You know a donut joint is doing something right when there is a line for donuts at 7AM. Few donut places rake in such loyal customers consistently, but J’s keeps them coming back for more. The test of true donut greatness really comes down to the dough. It can’t be too dry, crumbly, overly sweet, and needs to hold up without a ton of extravagant fillings and toppings. J’s definitely holds it own in this department. I went with a regular sugar-coated to test the quality and they were worthy donuts, my friends. Light and soft, without the bitter yeasty aftertaste you get from some bad donuts. Beside this I tried the blueberry, chocolate glazed, a croissant sausage roll, and some donut holes. They were all great, except the chocolate glazed was a little lacking(they don’t glaze them before they put the chocolate on). If you live in the area and need a quick shot of sugar in the morning, J’s is a better than average way to get it.
