The Distinctive Edge has been specializing in the Sharpening of Beauty and Grooming Tools in house and mobile since 2006. This includes but is not limited to Japanese Style, German Style, Thinning, Blending, Texturizing scissors /​shears plus Straight Razors, and Clipper Blades. We are an Authorized sharpener for Sharkfin and Bonika Shears. We also offer repair services for motorized clippers; such as Andis, Oster or Wahl. We carry several Scissors from several different Manufacturers; SharkFin, Kenchii, Joewell, Kasho, Hikari, Yasaka, Bonika, Aikyo, Shisato, Mirage, Debut, Royale, Matsuzaki, Tara, and a few other beauty shears that are unbranded. We want the stylist to be able to make an educated decision on their shear purchases, so therefore we offer any knowledge available about any shears material and origin of the shear. We can also go into the craftsmanship or practices of the manufacturing processes if you would like to discuss this as well. We are also a Member of The National Beauty Tool Sharpeners Guild.

History

Established in 2006.

In 2006, My wife propositioned me to goto a hair show with her and see about learning to sharpen from one of the manufacturers at the show. She had always had some sort of problem with the traveling sharpeners that came thru her salon. I went to première Orlando and meet with Bonika shears. They set me up to come train with them a month later. I took the knowledge and equipment I received from them and went on to sharpen for my wife’s and sister’s salons. After a year I started picking up more and more referrals from the stylist I was currently sharpening for. I did not have a lot of time for sharpening though. I still had full time 75hr week job as a metal finisher at an orthopedic manufacturing company. In a leap of faith, on October 1, 2013, I made one of the most critical decisions in my life. I left my insurance and benefits that I had for 10yrs at the orthopedic company, to take on this career full force. I don’t have a single regret. I’m loving what I do every single day.

Mike spends a lot of time around the beauty industry considering him and his wife also own a Ardent Hair salon. Mike frequently goes to hair shows not only to sharpen shears or learn more about other shears that are available but to learn more about whats happening in the industry as well. Mike really cares about the stylist he caters to and is willing to share everything he has learned along the way to help them further their careers. Mike really enjoys being involved with beauty industry and loves that him and his wife are in it together.
