I’m not a fan of chain restaurants and I probably wouldn’t come here, but believe it or not Hillsboro lacks decent Mexican restaurants. I’ve tried those that are mom-and-pop places, but since I don’t speak that much Spanish, I get treated like an idiot! So here I come to this place and my family likes it. Usually, the food here has been very good, but this last time, prompted me to finally write about it. The waiter was not good; kind of rude; and never came to check on anything! I have to say, that alone doesn’t make me want to come back, but I probably will, just not as often. While the food was tasty, the service was stinky. Get better waiters and I might improve my rating.

This is literally the worst Mexican food I have ever had. It’s not even that it’s inauthentic. It is just not good. As if the cute for bad food is to cover it with cheese. Do yourself a favor and starve.

The drinks are good, the food is better, and they offer great service. Servers are friendly, efficient and welcoming. My favorite is the chicken a la crema. The sauce is thick and has a tang to it that works really well with the overall flavor. They also sell their house salsa up to 32 ounces at a time. Soooo good!

Been coming to this location for six years, went to the one on Cornell for six years prior, the worst service ever. Been here thirty minutes had to beg for a glass of water, asked there different people, ten minutes after being served chips and salsa and when asked for more water was asked” more water?” Yes and now I’m again needing water. Not coming back. Worst dinner ever, dried beans, picked up my taco, nope, asked for new taco they brought be a shell? So now I’m supposed to make my own taco? When I paid the poor kid asked how everything was, when I explained you shouldn’t sit people and give them hot salsa without water he said«sorry mam we’ve been very busy.» No excuse, if you don’t live in this area just know if you move here you will unfortunately have to travel to Portland for a good meal. Please someone open up a restaurant in this area with good food, I will look past the service if good is good

What the heck… We LOVE the Mazatlan off of TV Hwy, heck we even somewhat like the one off 185th so we musta gone on an off night because almost everything about this place was not so good. It really wasn’t too busy but the waiter acted as if he was so put off by us it was ridiculous; we practically needed a flare gun to get his attention… personally I think he was«hangry»(so hungry he was irritable/angry) cause I did see him trying to eat quickly as we were leaving. If that’s the case I can get over it; but the food really was nothing to get excited about to counter act… not even a little bit… which is a bummer cause it takes a lot to mess up Americanized Mexincan food in this gals book. hello – I sometimes get(and enjoy) freakin’ Taco Bell. Not to mention I got a chicken tostada, how the hell do you mess that up??! Anyways the chips and salsa were my only saving grace so that I didn’t leave«hangry»… its still up for debate if we will give this joint another try or wave as we pass by on our way to TB

Sorry, but the food was truly lacking unless you like gloppy flavorless cheese melted on gloppy flavorless entrees. Mazatlan says they prepare«authentic» Mexican food. Wrong, though that may be be true in White Bread Idaho. I’m from San Diego and recently moved to Portland/Beaverton. This was some of the worst Mexican food I’ve tried since moving here. I’ll continue my search.

So as much as I wanted to find a mexican restaurant that I love, this place is not it! The waitresses are highly unattentive. I have tried this place four times, and the service does no change. Each time, I have to ask for place settings(after the food arrives). They will not give or offer you water, you have to ask for it. Once your drink arrives they will not ask you if you want a refill, unless it is alcohol, then they don’t leave you alone. The waitresses prep to-go plates, and table settings in one of the booths while customers are present. Any prep should be done out of sight for the customers, and you should wash your hands before doing it, the waitresses will serve the food to someone and go straight to prep again(not washing). The restaurant is very dirty, and could use a really good deep cleaning, most likely from an outside professional, especially since the staff haven’t been cleaning. Also most of the lightbulbs are out, and you see a ton of burned out bulbs, and the flowing streams of cobwebs everywhere. I do have to say though that the food is tasty and hot. If they improved the service, and the cleanliness this could earn them a better rating and my continued repeat service.

Some of the worst food we have ever had. And all we had was rice, beans, and an onion and cheese enchilada. I didn’t realize you could mess this up! The beans either had some kind of wine in them, or soap, or were just rancid. The rice was very very bland and the cheese enchilada was nothing to talk about. Edible. Barely. The service was dispicable. Took over 10 minutes to get water. Another 10 for chips and salsa. Another 10 before we could order. No water refills. Asked for a chip refill when the food arrived and not only did we get an eyeroll, we never got the chips although three other tables got chip refills who arrived after us. Mind you, they had a bunch of people on staff and were not very busy. The«blonde» waitress was very rude when we asked for the beans to be removed from our bill. We explained why and her excuse was«these are the same beans we serve everyone» yet she refused to taste them when we asked her too. Makes it seem a little fishy to me. We will NOT be coming back. We rarely ever have to spit food out and get it removed from the bill. Even taco bell is better.

My wife and I have been going here for years now. Carlos and our favorite waitress Judy have always been just over the top. The food is just incredible. We go to Cabo every year so we can compare it to authentic Mexican food. Their Chili Relleno and Seafood Chimi along with all the other menu items are top notch. I guess that’s why #14 on the menu is my favorite. See you guys next week! keep up the good work.

I took a very special family here today. Carlos led great service– food was hot and delicious especially the Arroz Con Pollo. Our drinks were kept full, chips and salsa refreshed. Thank you for making our special lunch a great experience.

The food is so spicy(well-seasoned) and full of flavor, delicious and hot from kitchen to your table. They have flavorful fruit smoothies and a full bar, I love their Zombie(see photos). My husband(not a huge Mexican food fan) said their salsa was the best he has ever had and the chips are freshly made and warm. Love their guacamole too. Last night we split the 3 enchilada meal(no extra charge). I had 2 enchiladas and my husband had 1 enchilada and the rice and beans. All of this for just a little over $ 20. When getting take-out the plates are well wrapped with foil to stay warm until you get home. The atmosphere is great and the staff are always full of smiles. We always go pretty early in the evening so it is quiet and quick, we will continue to return for the food & the service.

My wife and I love this place because they have one of the most awesome veggie burritos around! We hadn’t noticed that they changed their sign in 2012 to include the words, «and Grill» until a few months into 2013. Thanks to their new grill the burrito has a ton of great grilled vegetable ingredients, packed inside along with rice and beans and such! Much better than most options available to plant-based eaters like us. On the other hand, even if you order with no sour cream and no cheese, like I do(I try to be an herbivore due to health issues), I don’t believe you can really achieve vegan status due to their cooking methods, but I could be wrong. However, they know what I mean when I say«vegan style» and they do their best. And I’m not religious about it. Before my diet-based health treatment began, I used to go their pretty often just to get the mole sauce. I think you could put their mole(Mo-lay) on rocks and they’d taste good. Although I have tasted one better, this is the best in 15 miles of me. Sadly, mole is off the menu for me now. 8^( I have only had one bad plate from them before, a few years ago, they didn’t take the skin off my chicken. ICK! But that’s the only negative I’ve seen, and I go there a lot, especially since I can walk there in 15 minutes. If you’re in the area and are making an effort to eat more healthfully* I recommend their veggie burrito minus dairy products. It’ll fill you up and keep you full a long time, with none of the sluggish tiredness and heaviness a meat and fat laden meal will give you. And the general manager is very nice to boot! At least if you’re a regular. 8^) Note: The only reason for four instead of five stars is that I am a clean freak and I like a sterling shiny polished sanitized perfect bathroom and those are rare in Cornelius. The building used to be a bank, so I think they’d need to sink some real money into it to make a perfect bathroom setup. They also need to dust up high more often, but it’s not too bad. * I heartily recommend reading the book The China Study by Dr. T. Colin Campbell. It has the actual scientific medical data from the largest study on human health and nutrition in history. It demonstrates why eating a nearly exclusively plant-based diet can significantly improve your health in many many ways. If you do read it you’ll understand why it was *so* wonderful for my wife and me to find this nearly vegan meal that we don’t have to cook ourselves.

Some choose mexican food, some are born to mexican food and others have it thrust upon them. I am the one who had it thrust upon me. From March through October we run a road rally series in Portland called the Friday Nighter Series, and each event ends at a pizza place usually, sometimes a Denny’s and some, like this one, ended at a Mazatlan Mexican Restaurant. When we arrived it was late in the evening, but the rally organizer arranged for this place to stay open later just for us, so it was nice to see a place actually bend over backwards to make money. My partner and I had been rushed to make the event and so we were pretty hungry when we got here. One thing about my partner and I, we know mexican food, we can spot the pretenders and the innovators as well as the posers and the talentless. We also know good standard mexican fare, which this was. I had the chili colorado burrito with rice and beans. It was good chili, the meat was maybe a little tougher than I like in that dish which usually means it was not simmering long enough, but it was good, not exceptional. The tortilla was made with real lard, you can tell easily which gave it a real authentic flavor. The rice was boring and kind of bland but the beans had the right stuff, combine the two and it covers a multitude of sins. What really stood out was even though we were keeping them there late, the service was fast and friendly, and n qualms about splitting checks either. The cocktails were reported to be excellent, the partner enjoyed a Consuela, rich with fruit, and the margaritas were heralded as excellent. I won’t be returning here anytime too soon, I am just not out in Cornelius that often, but if I was I would consider this as an option to stop at.
