Code is art, great coders, artisans. SkilStak Coding Arts is a local nano-school with hyper-focus on computer programming as an employable, empowering skill and art form. Students learn real code in fun ways starting with Python, HTML/CSS, or JavaScript, and then move to more advanced courses and projects in Java, Raspberry Pi, Linux, Golang, C and more. Experience has shown even the most beginner students don’t want to be babied with fluffy alternatives to real code.
Minecraft is a big part of our work and play with every student receiving their own Minecraft server as they learn to manage it themselves from the command-line.
We advertise very little with most hearing about us through word of mouth. We are small by design accepting no more than 150 enrollment applications to maximize focus and attention like no other school can. We selectively place each student in class based on aptitude, interest, peer compatibility and dedication.
Enrollment is semester based and frequently there is a waiting list, but admission during the semester is allowed for qualified candidates in Code and Play or Prep, which can be prorated for the remainder of the Semester.
History
Established in 2013.
SkilStak started when its founder, Rob Muhlestein, could not abide the lack of programming skills education in the public system and the incessant requests from those in his Scout troop and sons to teach them to code. Watching America fall farther and farther behind combined with an unexpected opportunity to live in a town home above a small private school provided the push needed to start the school he’d always wanted to create. From humble beginnings tutoring a few students SkilStak has grown to 105 with regular materials born from an organic approach to learning with high emphasis on experimentation and fun projects.
