Corolla Classic Vacations

First of all, let me say that every contact we had with Corolla Classic Vacations (CCV) was terrific. Our numerous questions received quick responses, beyond that, the whole process of making a reservation, getting the check-​in information, receiving the Buck Island gate code and the house we rented’s entry codes, was smooth, friendly, professional and totally problem-​free. The home itself was everything as advertised and more! Our family group of 13 was easily accommodated, in fact, the house, Stargazer, could handle a few more. The house has its own beach access, a great pool [too cold to use at Thanksgiving], and a very nice hot tub [which we could use!]. The house was perfectly clean and ready for us on arrival, decorated nicely, furnished with everything our family could want, and it all led to a most memorable Thanksgiving reunion for our family! Our thanks go out to the home owner as well as CCV for this great experience!

We just returned from spending Thanksgiving week in Corolla. We had a very good experience with CCV. Everyone I dealt with there was very professional and helpful. The house we stayed in was nicely decorated and very clean. I love that CCV includes linens and towels, which is one less thing I need to worry about packing. We did have an issue with a toilet while we were there. I called CCV and the plumber was there to fix it within the hour.
Check in and check out were a breeze. All in all a great vacation!
I would not hesitate to rent through CCV in the future!

Our family has been going to Corolla on vacation for the last ten years and the vast majority of rentals have been done through Corolla Classics, no more. We will never rent from them again. The clothes dryer stopped functioning on Tuesday morning, they were advised and sent someone out Wednesday afternoon after another phone call. The repair required an «appliance vendor» which they claimed they contacted but could not give me a time as to when they would show. After some more phone calls and emails, somoene finally showed Friday afternoon. We were leaving Saturday morning. A functioning washer and dryer for a family of five at a beach rental is not a luxury item like a pool or a hot tub, its a necessity. This didn’t completely ruin our vacation but the attitude I received and lack of follow up was unacceptable. There are a ton of rental agencies on on The Outer Banks, I would not recommend Corolla Classics at all.

Not user friendly. It’s been 5 years but I learned my lesson and won’t use them again.
When we arrived we could witness harried 20 year olds behind the desk scrambling to move other people checking in through. By the time it was my turn, I tried to be as pleasant as I could but I was just another body infront of her and she couldn’t care less. The houses had been mediocre, but that’s more a reflection on the owner and their lack of care but when something broke– it took a while to get someone out to fix it. We had a stopped up sink and it took 2 days for a plumber to come clear it. Houses have issues but the response from CCV made it tough to «deal» with it. Still go to Corolla each summer, didn’t go back to CCV, never will.

I wish they had the option of zero stars. Our family has happily been coming to the outer banks and renting homes here for summer vacation for more than 40 years. As I write this review I am sitting on the deck at the house that we rented for almost $ 10k unable to get inside. It is more than an hour past check in and they are still cleaning it. Oh, and it lightening. No idea when we will get in but they are completely unaccommodating and unresponsive. I hope the week gets better but so far our expensive vacation has been very disappointing.

Corolla Classic Vacations (CCV) was a huge mistake. My husband and I decided we wanted to do 2 weeks at the beach and stay in the beautiful area of Pine Island in Corolla. My relatives from CA had flown in to Norfolk and were driving down — on the way they had stopped for groceries to stock the house that Sunday evening. The groceries would soon spoil– due to a refrigerator that would not cool and kept sounding an annoying alarm at a very high temperature that first Sunday we arrived. This alarm sounded in the middle of the night– waking my husband. I felt terrible for my relatives who had purchased groceries. We called the CCV office and my husband spoke to someone (Elizabeth /​Nancy) who said they would reimburse us for $ 100 (as we didn’t have the receipt, we just approximated the grocery value) — and that was fine. CCV sent a nice enough tech out on Monday, he worked on it, said it was fixed as it started to cool and then everything seemed ok until the following Friday evening when the alarm sounded that it was overheating. The tech had to come back out again Sat (this means we have to be at the house too, waiting around for him to show up– mind you — because we don’t want our dog to be disturbed by a stranger). He said he fixed it Sat. — we waited to see and then low and behold the alarm sounded again and he had to come back out Sunday — the 3^rd time, he brought us a loaner refrigerator which he moved up to the kitchen area. The problem I had with the entire situation is that the refrigerator tech guy mentioned that there had been problems with it before dating back to August (and my husband was under the impression, he meant Aug 2013, not 2014!). Um… shouldn’t that have been addressed a year ago? At least he brought us an additional refrigerator that we ended up placing right next to the broken one so we wouldn’t have to keep running up and down the stairs. So that was the refrigerator saga… now onto the grill.
My husband went to light up the grill. He was on the upper deck by the grill for a long time and I became a little concerned. My husband (who is former military and basically unflappable) came back inside with a disgusted look on his face stating that there was a nest of baby possums living in the grill and that he was having to «relocate» them. It took a few stiff drinks for him to relax after that ordeal — once again «RELAXING» vacation. Shouldn’t CCV be checking the grills to make sure they aren’t inhabited by wildflife? It just made me wonder what else they weren’t «checking». I can honestly say, the house wasn’t exactly spic and span when we arrived– bug corpses and webs abound both inside and outside of the house. I know that «beaching it» comes with a tolerance for creatures, but it seems like this house needs more attention than it has been given. The pictures are very deceiving and when you drive into Pine Island and see the exterior and the landscaping compared to other homes — well, let’s just say– you feel like you may have arrived at the junkyard.
The contractor that takes care of the pool came out twice per week while we were there and indicated he was there to ensure that «no one came away from vacation with a rash» — great visual. Anyway, on the last day he came out to check on things — he noticed that the pool level was a little low and asked us to put in the hose for a few hours and then shut it off later — once again — isn’t this his concern and not that of the vacationers who have paid an exorbitant amount of money for a 2 week stay?
On the day before we were scheduled to leave the OBX, we dropped by the office to talk to the staff about the issues we had experienced. We spoke with a woman at the front desk and let her know of the inhabitants of the grill we had «dealt with» on our own. She indicated that the cleaning/​maintenance staff DO NOT check the grills prior to change of occupation. I asked her if the house had been rented before our occupation and she said yes, but that a lot of people don’t cook out and just eat out all the time. Ummm… yeah right. We then were ushered over to speak face to face with the office manager, Nancy, to give her the details of how these events impacted our vacation. She sat before us trying to appear concerned with a notebook. She actually contradicted her staff member at the front desk by saying the cleaning /​maintenance staff DO CHECK THE GRILLS before each renter comes in. So– it’s wonderful — everyone is on the same page — NOT!!! We did not ask, but, Nancy did not offer us any further compensation beyond the groceries for the impact to our stay. The annoying and somewhat disgusting things we had to deal with and the subsequent lack of service from the office speaks volumes of this schlock operation — STEER CLEAR.

I have used Corolla Classic for 6 out of the 7 vacation years we spent in Corolla. The year we didn’t stay with Corolla Classic is the only time we were unsatisfied with the home we stayed in.
The staff at check in were extremely nice and helpful. They even let us check in 30 minutes early with out charging any fees.
The houses have been extremely clean and very family friendly.
We are getting ready to check on for our week at Whim Sea and I cannot wait to stay there again!!!

Be prepared to have issues with your rental and prepared that they won’t be resolved. This management company loses a lot of interest in you once you’re ‘paid in full.’
We just checked out of Kite Tails (CB 38). After having the same issue with the AC (it likes to blow heat) and filing 2 requests to have it looked at we never heard back from anyone. The last request we filed was in person (which seems like a good use of our vacation time) and after expressing that we hadn’t been comfortable at all since we checked in we didn’t receive so much as an ‘I’m sorry’ and why would they, we paid $ 1000.00 to stay in a house .5 miles from the beach with broken air conditioning. Did I mention it was in the 90s last week. They received there money, and don’t care the slightest that you enjoy your self.
There are plenty of rentals in Corolla. Go with someone else!

We rented the house called «Diamond Girl» a few weeks ago and had the time of our lives.
Corolla Classic Vacations was extremely professional and made the experience of renting the home stress-​free. The house turned out to be an amazing place. Right on the water, it provides a spectacular view of the ocean. The interior design of the home is out of a magazine. Everything they picked for the house — fabrics, tile, furniture — is close to perfection. You’ll be staying at the beach but in style. Another plus is that there’s nothing missing in the house. Every plate, cooking utensil (if you want to cook), appliance is there — nothing has been overlooked.
This is one of those vacations that you ask yourself: «why aren’t we doing this more often?» Thanks Corolla Classic Vacations for helping us make great memories and to the owners of this magnificent home called «Diamond Girl». It truly was a gem. We’ll come back very soon.

We have used Corolla Classic Vacations for 8 straight years and I highly recommend them.
Have we had problems, yes. Everything from broken A/​C, downed Internet (although internet is very new to the Island) to pool problems to even one time with a mix up about pets. However, each and every time they have done everything within their power to fix the issue. Often it is out of their hands as the island is not an easy place to get to for repairs and deliveries or it is simply the owners fault.
I have found them to be responsive and easy to work with. We are going back for a 9^th year, this time two weeks and we are again booking through Corolla Classic Vacations.
if it is your first time booking be sure to do a lot of homework via the net. The listings varry very much from cheap to expensive. Ultimately, you’re most likely not going to get a deal. When it comes to OBX, you get what you pay for. The Island is so narrow in Duck or Corolla that if you stay on the Ocean side you are never more than a 5 minute walk to the beach. Beaches are NOT crowded and it is very laid back. I recommend Late June or early July. Its too hot in August and too many bugs! Enjoy…

Use someone else!
We rented a house through them (Station One PI400) and had nothing but problems. Problems happen, but not in this quantity and not with their attitude of tough we’re not going to fix it, and not without any effort to compensate for our troubles.
Multiple problem with A/​C, broken internet, broken pools… their attitude is tough we might send a repairman, but they won’t fix it they will just note it, you just have to live with it… They scheduled other repairmen to fix other stuff in the house while we were there and never told us. Random people walking through a house we paid many many thousands to rent and have a good vacation. Waking napping kids and interrupting our vacation. Rooms we could not use because of a/​c, a big media room /​home theater but what we won’t tell you is the bulb on the projector won’t work… so that is just a waste.
Oh we can’t fix the internet because we don’t have the password… we can’t fix your a/​c because we don’t deal with that brand… we can’t reach the home owner because the number we have is wrong… we can’t make the media center work because we don’t keep extra bulbs… your the first people using the hot tub so we did not know it does not work… the only thing they are good at is excuses.
Hours and hours of our vacation wasted on them… they say there is nothing they can do it is the home owners issue. Your the management company! Mange!
8^th year renting in the OBX so we are not new at this, but these guys clearly are and hopefully won’t be around to ruin others vacations.
