Not crazy about their beef stew as the piece of meat was tough and too lean. They went out of oxtail and tripe soup. Their lentil soup was huge portion for $ 5. It was good. The highlight of this place is their empanadas. They were piping hot. The skin is thin and crusty. The filling is yummy and finely mashed. It was so good that we ordered 3 more and are thinking about coming back next week. $ 1.25 is a steal. The total bill was $ 19 to feed 3 for dinner.

The sign may say«El Palacio De Las Empanadas» but truth be told they offer far more than their empanadas. They are very fresh and toasty, especially on a cold winter morning. Besides the famous empanadas, they mainly specialize in Colombian food. If you’re planning on dining inside, don’t expect to sit down immediately, as they have very little room to accommodate more than 3 tables in their space. The only reason I gave this place 4⁄5 stars was because they had raised their empanada prices to more than just a dollar, as well as everything else on the menu. But don’t get me wrong, if you’re in the neighborhood and want some delicious empanadas or Colombian food, stop by this quaint little joint. Take it from a local who goes here often!

Best empanadas hands down! I’ve eaten Dominican and Puerto Rican variations but this is the best! The picante is the bomb! The salads are the bomb! The grill chicken or the pernil is better than any I’ve had across NYC!

In case you are craving some late night munchies, and you happen to be around the Corona area — yes, you can go grab some lemon ice from Lemon Ice King. But if you are craving some crispy, flaky empanadas… then you’re in luck! Just walk a block down and bam, you just hit the jackpot for a damn good empanada(along with their tangy, sour and spicy hot sauce). It’s a small hole-in-the-wall, and as you can probably guess they are best known for their empanadas(each for $ 1.25 and you can choose from chicken, beef, and cheese). I got my two piping hot empanadas right away, guess they just made a fresh batch! Here’s what I had: Beef(carne) empanada Nice crispy shell made from corn based dough, not too thick and not too thin. Beef was well seasoned and fluffy, and the chili/vinegar-based hot sauce is a marriage made in empanada heaven. Cheese(queso) empanada The cheese is mozzarella. Imagine a really, really good mozerella stick in the form of an empanada. That’s essentially what this is, and I can eat 5 more right now…

The truth is I only come here for the empanadas and the vinegary hot sauce here. I like the vinegary hot sauce sooooo much. I have been going to El Palacio de Las Empanadas for so many years just for these two items only. The only item I’ve ever tried besides the empanadas is the sopa de mondongo, tripe soup, and that was also good but I only had it once. I would have it again. I think this place is underrated for their nice crisp, not too thick, corn masa skinned empanadas. It’s soooo good. Hopefully they make it fresh for you because it’s really kicks it up a couple of notches when it’s fried fresh.

I stopped here one day afterwork. The food was pretty good. Prices were fair. I got the grilled steak with rice and beans. The girl at the cashier was friendly and helpful. If I was in the neighborhood I would probably stop by again.

Three point five stars for my first but certainly not my last trip to the Palace of Empanadas if my translation is correct. Early on a Saturday morning, very little is open north of the LIE but south of Jewel Ave and in full functional food serving swing. Less that dissuade my persuit of sustenance, hopefully of the spicey and gut filling kind. I certainly found that within the clean, modern corner empanada spot, but it wasn’t an empanada day just yet. Ordering the most pricey menu item set me back $ 9.00 and filled me to the brim, no further eating was necessary as the hours passed me by to early evening. The rice and beans lurking below the pounded shoe leather beef and the beautifully herbed scrambled egg had to tip the scales at a full pound. I walked with my posture on a slight tilt to my illegally parked car, bursting non– biodegradable food holder in hand, which I consumed while parked outside. The street parking is boarder line impossible. I pulled my overstuffed torso from my cars interior with a mighty Heeve Hoo, in deep thought about this not delicious, not even really good meal. On one hand the quantity was significant but all accounts of taste unfortunately fell short into the ‘just average in taste’ category, but I sense my next visit will yield much more positive findings, hopefully minus the half day of over consumption waddling.
