History

Established in 2009.

Counter Intelligence opened their first The Counter in Palo Alto in 2006 and have since opened in San Jose, Walnut Creek and Roseville. The Counter Corte Madera opened August 24th, 2009.

My partners and I are all local, Bay Area residents and enjoy bringing great burgers to our friends and neighbors. While The Counter is a franchise, we were the very first franchisee back in 2006 and so we like to think of ourselves as more mom and pop than as a chain. We are very hands on and like to hear about all the good as well as anything we could be doing better.

Nestle in a strip mall, when you walk in you know this is the place to grab a burger. Very busy and seating inside or out. I was told it would be a 5 – 10 minute wait but actually it’s was 2 minutes.
The menu was lined with burger after burger as well as other items. 2 ways to order a burger, traditional or as a salad. No hormones or antibiotics are used on the meat they sever here.
I order a small Old School burger. They may call it small but the burger was huge. More than I could handle. Topped with the regular items, lettuce, cheddar cheese, onion, pickle, tomato, relish all on a brioche bun. Crispy shoestring fries sided my order.
I wouldn’t miss the chance to eat here if I were you.

The burgers are great!!! The service is terrible. The place was empty but yet it took them 10 min to ask us if we needed anything. The music was so loud, we could hardly hear ourselves think. I had to ask him to turn it down, whatever music they were listening to was awful and very annoying especially with all those hard surfaces. We were very disappointed to say the least.

Had cold and dry burgers here the other day.
Very disappointing.
Wife’s veggie burger was cold in middle too.
Was told oh sorry one of our heat lamps is burnt out.
Which doesn’t explain cold in the middle, nor does it explain why it wasn’t served fresh.
At any rate, will not be back.

I have yet to have a good burger here. Maybe they just don’t know how to cook a turkey burger, but it is always dry. Also for the price I will go to one of the several burger joints in Marin.

High quality hamburger cooked perfectly. Comes in 1⁄3 or ½ pound size. I had an Old School $ 9.75 and added fried pickle chips as a premium topping $ 1. I thought they brought me the ½ lb. size by mistake! Very nice burger! I would give 2 stars to the shoestring fries /​shoestring onions combo side because the onions weren’t very crispy and pretty greasy. I give 5 stars to the service and manager.

This restaurant has really poor management. They do not know how to manage seating and wait times. They put immature and unprofessional hostesses at the front of the house. This place needs a real personnel make over and better customer service. We go out to dinner in Marin quite a bit and we won’t be going here again for a long time.

I think this place is awesome, the fact that you can design your own burger is fascinating, cool and delicious. I love coming and designing my own burger, with whatever I want in terms of toppings and how I want it made. They do have a great number of dishes on the Manu which are just as delicious but it is fun to design your own burger. The Kale salad is super good. But I am also obsessed with their milk shakes which are so sweet and fun!

I love this place. Anything that’s build your own style usually gets me. The chicken burger is great, and I’m not a red meat eater so it’s awesome to have such a tasty alternative to a regular burger.
Anything here can be build your own, cocktails, salads, milkshakes, and burgers. You pick you toppings and sauces etc. Price is affordable for what you get, and I would definitely recommend the chicken. The creamy Caesar sauce and pesto are both great.
Note that the sauces for the burgers come on the side naturally, so you can add as much or as little as you want.
Crispy onion strings and shoestring fries are also awesome. Would also recommend doing a build your own cocktail at least once.
At lunchtime on the weekends, there’s usually a little bit of a wait (15 – 20 minutes for 2 people)

Great burger, nice service from Ian. Loud music made it difficult to converse.
There are so many choices for your burger, that it took me a looooong time to decide.
Loved the garlic aioli the most! But the sweet sriracha was yummy, and the Cabernet mustard rocked too…
Nice crispy fries.
Only $ 10 corkage.

The food is always good. But. We waited 20 minutes to get water and other drinks we ordered. Number one rule of operating a restaurant: bring water and drinks right away!
They messed up my order. I’ll be back but they need to do better with the ops side of the business. Having said that, everyone is friendly and smiling

Burger was so dry even though I had ordered it medium rare. I also had cheese and an egg on it!
The Counter definitely didn’t live up to the hype. The Sriracha sweet chili fries are good though.
Service is good though. Was seated immediately by a girl who said she sensed some urgency. I was REALLY REALLY HANGRY, sorry. Thanks for being awesome though guys.

As a vegetarian, I’m always eager to give a new veggie burger a whirl. Here you can build your own burger: choose type of patty, cheese, bun, sauce and toppings. Even better… in theory. I was happy with the creation I came up with but the vegan patty fell apart with my 1st bite and crumbled onto my plate along with the other carefully selected toppings. Given most of the burger was consumed using a fork, it would have been better to skip the bun and go with the in-​the-​bowl option.
I know veggie burgers an be hit or miss. This burger does not make my top 5 veggie burgers in the bay area and sadly is a miss. Vegetarian /​vegans, it’s best to just opt for a salad or sides.

First time here and found it really delicious! Service was slow on a Monday afternoon but steadily picked up the pace. Ordered the spuds and sweet potato fries. Very delicious! Burger was delicious! I wish I put more toppings on my burger but I was satisfied. I had low expectations of this place but I will be definitely coming back!

Burger was really good and the sweet potato fries really good too. My glass had lipstick marks (gross) all three of us did enjoy our burger, we all got a side of our own thing like fries, sweet potato fries and onion rings. I would recommend sharing next time. None of us finished the sides. My son loved the vanilla shake ($ 6)! Ouch!
Any way it was good food just a little steep after tip Lucy was $ 58 for two adults and one child.

Not a bad place Corte Madera. The chili cheese fries reminded me of Ben’s Chili Bowl back in Washington DC. There was four of us but only one order of the chili fries. It did not last long.
I had the buffalo sauce chicken sandwich. It was good. Nothing spectacular. The burger my friend had looked a tad too over-​done but he polished it off all the same. His wife had the same and downed a humongous milk shake as a chaser. She sang a line form the Milkshake song. We laughed.
It’s a little pricey but then again look at the zip code you’re in. I think Super Duper actually has a superior product. But then that’s dressed-​up fast food. it’s casual sit-​down here. There’s also TV’s and a full bar. Always a plus.

I love my usual: burger on wheat, cheddar cheese, green peppers, roasted red peppers, ranch, and sweet potato fries.
And the birthday cake shake is AMAZING.
One day, when I was waiting for a long time and having a bad day, they treated me with a free so-​called shake. They are usually busy, but it’s worth it.

They’re messy, customizable and tasty!
I love the fixing you get to choose from, cause who doesn’t love a lil fried egg love? Makes the burger that much more nomable.
My sister usually gets the birthday cake milkshake (which she usually talks about on a weekly basis) and I, the chocolate.
This place can get a lil busy but the outdoor seating on a good day is enjoyable.
